Welcome to Liverpool City Little Athletics Dear Liverpool Athletes and families, Welcome to the 2014/2015 Little Athletics season at Liverpool City LAC. On behalf of behalf of Liverpool City LAC we wish you all an enjoyable and successful year. Special appreciation goes to our Committee, Age Managers, and parent volunteers. Your help and support reflected our Club spirit. I d like to also take this opportunity to thank the new committee for coming on board for a busy but enjoyable season ahead. Congratulations to our new Club Captain Hannah Kaine who joins our current Club Captain Kristen Thompson. Little Athletics is a family sport and we urge everyone to get involved. Our aim is to encourage children to participate in sport and improve their skills within their own abilities, whilst creating friendships. At little Athletics the emphasis is on being your best. Please do not ever lose sight of this! We are a centre of volunteers. We only exist because of the hard work that many people put in. Throughout the year, many of you will have the opportunity to assist in various ways. I ask you to please come forward and offer your help as it is the only way we can continue to build and run our successful Little Athletics centre. We are also returning to each parent signing in their children each night with their age manager. Just a reminder you cannot drop your children off and go. We have a centre website, www.lclac.com.au, Face Book and a newsletter that will keep you up to date with things around the track. Our website will be the main source of information for our members. It contains all the information you will need to know about our centre. If anyone has any stories or photos they would like to contribute throughout the year, please let one of the committee know. Last season we had great results from many athletes from Zone, Regional, State and Trans-Tasman. We had 18 athletes compete at the State Championships. We had 1 athlete Isabelle Lhotka who competed at Trans-Tasman and won 3 Gold Medals. But we also had fun and a successful day with our very own Gala Day. This year the committee has decided not to run before Zone or Regional Championships, so we hope to have EVERYONE attends Zone that weekend. We are also excited about introducing Regional shirts for all our Representatives this season. We have been very fortunate to also get a LANSW Grant so we could get much need equipment for the older athletes such as Javelins and Discus. Don t forget we have a canteen and bbq available each week. Please support our centre so we can fundraise to upgrade new equipment for our athletes. I d like to take the opportunity to thank our sponsors McDonalds in the Liverpool areas, Athletes Foot Liverpool and Print Magic for your continued support I d also like to welcome Jetstar on board as Little Athletics National Sponsor. If any stage you have any questions please don t hesitate to come and see me or anyone from the committee, we will be more than happy to assist you. Nicole Reynolds President, Liverpool LAC 3

The walks and 3k called from 5.45pm Season Ends: Friday 13 th March 2015 Christmas Holidays: Last running night before Christmas, Friday, 19 th December and return on the 16 January 2015. We run through all other holiday weekends. Arrival: Arrive 5:45 for a 6.00pm start Those who wish to do the walk or 3k, please arrive at 5.30, as these events will commence at 5.45pm. Different age groups will finish at different times. This will also depend on the number of parent helpers out with the age groups. Try and do some warm up stretches before the start of the night. The Program: We run a two week program; this allows the athletes to participate in as many events more frequently. Both nights start with either the walk or the 3k. There is no Walk on the first night of competition. U6-U17: Unless you are warming up please wait until you are called out on to the field. Athletes are to meet at their age trolley and are to wait for their age manager and parent helpers in their appropriate groups, and then they will be taken to their various events throughout the evening. Tiny Tots: Each Friday night Tiny Tots will be called at 6:15. They will meet at the western end of the field, to compete in various play activities which are fun but at the same time developing their motors skills. They will also run a few races but are non-competition. This will conclude approx. 7.30pm. Tiny Tot parents are required to help the Age Manager. Uniforms: All children must wear a centre uniform with the patches handed out at registration and shoes also must be worn. There are new patches this year. (See page 9 for more details). Wet Weather: If it has been raining during the week or on Friday afternoon and you are still not sure if our weekly competition will be on, we will attempt to have the information on our website as soon as we can or you can check our Facebook page. Sometimes the decision may not be made until 6pm. We will always try to run the night, even if it the program is modified. Parent Attendance: During any competition whether it s Friday night or championship events, there must always be a parent and or guardians that stay at the ground. If your child is left unsupervised, they will be excluded from competition. All parents must sign in with Age Manager. We will also do spot checks through the night to make sure you haven t left. Emails/Newsletters: We send out information if needed and a newsletter fortnightly to keep you informed with news you need for the season. Please make sure we have your correct email address. Alternatively, catch up with news via our website www.lclac.com.au Fundraising: Don t forget we have a canteen & BBQ each week. Please help buy buying raffles, as this will help raise money to upgrade our equipment and presentation day. 4

Parents: What you can do to help? Parent Participation So that athletics is as enjoyable and well run as possible for your children, WE NEED YOUR HELP. Don t worry if you feel you may not know enough to assist. All jobs are fairly easy and no experience is necessary. There is always someone who will show you. Parents can help with measuring throws or jumps and recording races. We also need help at the canteen, recording and setting up and packing equipment away. For smooth operation it is essential that everyone helps, otherwise the night is delayed. All parents will be required to sign your children in as well as signing in for your duty assistance each Friday night. This must be done at the beginning of the night. Training Training will be held Monday and Wednesday at Dwyer Oval between 5:30 to 7:00pm Friday nights are primarily for events to be run, not instruction. We encourage everyone to attend training, this is where athletes will pick up the correct technique, gain fitness and ultimately be able to improve on their personal bests. We will have some skills events on a Friday night throughout the season to make sure athletes are doing the event correctly. All parents are required to stay at training and also help with setting up and packing up. Athletes will also be required to sign in their attendance. New Award for training. Each time you attend training you will be awarded 1 star. Each time you reach 8 stars you will receive a $5 voucher from the canteen. The athletes with the most stars at the end of the season will receive an award from the club. Age Managers and Assistants Each age group will have an Age Manager and parents to help record, measure and also supervise the children. Two Age Managers would be required in some groups to help share the load. Age managers will organise children at their events. Starter Two race starters are requires for each nights races. Please volunteer when announced. Want to get really serious? LANSW offers a serious of officials certificates (from level 1-4) based on a closed book examinations of the rules. Anyone interested in any of these courses please see the Secretary. For parents who want to want to coach please let us know, we are always looking for more coaches. The club can help with coaching course fees, if you continue with coaching with Liverpool City. Track officials As part of your roster a recorder will be needed for the straight track. If it s your first time, we will run through it with you on how to record track events. Each age group will also need 1 person to call out athlete s registration number to recorder. If anyone likes this duty and would like to do it most weeks, please let the committee know. It s probably the best view of all the track events. Setting & packing up: Please refer to the roster on page 7 Canteen: Please refer to the roster on page 7 6

Parent Roster This will help run our night much more quickly and efficiently. It also means that the same people every week are not doing the same jobs. All parents who are assisting must sign on at the officials table at the announcers table near the end of the circular track or for canteen sign with Lubi in the canteen. They will also be located in a folder with each age group. Events are not always run in order. BUT track events run as priority. When your 1 st call is announced, please leave to that event immediately. If you re at a field event, you can finish that event after the track event. We use electronic timing system on both running tracks. This provides precise timing and placing for the athletes. It also minimises mistakes that can be made with manual methods. The system uses infra-red beams to sense when athletes cross the finish line. Children should not duck forward at the end. The timing system is sensitive to camera flashes, so please don t use these devices anywhere near the timing gates. Tiny Tots will do a variety of play training activities which will help them progress to the U6 s. These activities include 50m, 70m, 100m run, modified long jump, discus and shot put. They will also have a fun obstacle course each week. 17
