Executive Statement Director of Operations - Doan Minh Trung 2018 has been a successful year for me personally. I was appointed to the position as Director of operations as Ms Joanne Stewart has handed over the responsibility of the day to day running of the Charity to myself. During this year, Swim Vietnam received support from both the Hoi An Local Government as well as the education department of Quang Nam Province. We have also had enthusiastic support from both local and international volunteers and swim teachers, which has boosted our knowledge and expertise in the area of swimming and water safety. An agreement with the Local Government of Hoi An has supported 20% of the operational costs for the charity swim programs, which will increase to 30% in 2019. During the year the charity experienced some difficulties with children not being able to attend the some of the swim programs. Therefore our completion rates were low in some localities and did not meet our expected targets. Reduced sponsorship and donations also has had an impact on the number of free swimming programs that were offered. We will work towards the numbers increasing in programs for 2019. The transfer of money owed by the counterpart funding from the government was slow which had an impact on our programs however all monies owed have now been paid and for this coming season. My colleagues and I finished some key targets in 2018 with 2,519 children being taught to swim. One main objective was achieved this year in delivering classroom water safety education to 64,274 children in Quang Tri Province. Our training team trained 831 new swim teachers to either Swim Vietnam or AUSTSWIM standards. Additionally to this we had another 2 of our trainee presenters certified as Austswim presenters of Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety taking our total to 6. This will greatly benefit our commercial training capacity within the newly established Social Enterprise called Aquatic Training School Swim Vietnam. In November, I represented Swim Vietnam whilst attending a workshop on sharing experiences on solutions for water safety and child drowning prevention in Ha Noi. The workshop discussed and agreed on the framework for teaching swimming skills in Viet Nam and creating a National Curriculum. The now established social enterprise business, Aquatic Training School Swim Vietnam, which we are now licensed (as of September 2018). This we will allow us to actively target commercial training opportunities in 2019 throughout Vietnam with a view of raising money which will help support our charity swimming programs. I look forward to new challenges in the coming year and I am very confident that Swim Vietnam is going to develop into a strong and prestigious organisation delivering swimming and water safety education and swim teacher training to an international level. s Report Nguyen Du pool Hoi An - Nguyen Van Chien- Achievements in 2018: 715 children were taught to swim and be safe in the water. We achieved our target for this season as well as ensuring safety in the process of teaching swimming to the children. Private and paid swimming lessons have contributed a small part of raising funds to sustain the free learn to swim programs. We hope to increase the number of paid lessons with the commencement of the social enterprise. All monies raised will go towards Swim Vietnams charity initiatives. Our teachers had a wonderful time teaching swimming and water safety to disadvantaged children from Kianh Foundation, CHIA (Children s Hope in Action) and Hearing and Beyond. Thank you to the supporters and teachers. Reporting regularly to the program manager and giving positive feedback. Communication with teachers at the pool has been positive which allows for easy implementation of the swimming program and content. Well done for all the staff involved in the upkeep and maintenance work around the pool. The new landscape and gardens look amazing. Implementation of Initiatives for 2019: Need to arrange a timetable effectively for teachers to participate in lessons. Improve the quality of swimming lessons for elementary students. Need to plan training for teachers with the training management department of the organization, hold small meetings before teachers start the lesson, raise issues about teaching time, teaching style, how to use lesson plans, how to test and especially ensure safety in the teaching process. Monitor and evaluate teachers in our programs. Must supervise and remind teachers when performing classes that the safety of children is a first priority. 4
