AMATEUR SWIMMING ASSOCIATION 2015 NORTH WEST OPEN MASTERS DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS (UNDER ASA LAWS AND ASA TECHNICAL RULES) INCORPORATING THE 18-24 YEARS AGE GROUP DISTANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS WIGAN LIFE CENTRE College Avenue, WIGAN. WN1 1NJ SUNDAY 22 FEBRUARY 2015 ENTRIES CLOSE ON MONDAY 2ND FEBRUARY 2015

GENERAL CONDITIONS AND SCHEDULE OF EVENTS 1. SwimNorthWest reserves full powers over all North West Masters Championships. 2. Entries will be accepted from eligible competitors who are registered in the year of competition and are members of clubs in affiliation of the ASA, the Scottish or Welsh ASAs, or of any other country affiliated to FINA. 3. All competitors in Masters events must be aged 25 years or over at midnight on 31 December in the year of competition. All competitors in 18-24 events must be aged 18 years or over on 22 February 2015. 4. Protests shall be made and dealt with as detailed in ASA Law. The Promoter is SwimNorthWest. THE EVENTS 5. SwimNorthWest shall determine the programme of events. The programme currently includes the following events: Men and Ladies events 1500 metres freestyle, 800 metres freestyle, 400 metres freestyle, 400 metres individual medley Team events 4 * 100 metres and 4 * 200 metres relays are included. If you think your club would like to enter these relays at the distance meet, please could you contact Alan Rowson to discuss? 6. A competitor may enter as many events as they wish. 7. Entry standards or restrictions on numbers may be applied if required to fit pool time available. The Men s and Ladies will be swum as mixed heats. 8. Age groups for individual Masters events shall be 25-29 years, 30-34 years, and upwards in 5-year bands as required. 9. All events shall be heat declared winner. See condition 25 below about awards. 10. Age groups for relay events shall be 72 years-plus, 100-119 years, 120-159 years, 160-199 years, 200-239 years, and upwards in 40-year bands as required. Swimmers in the 72 years-plus relay events must be 18 years of age or over on the day of the competition (22 February 2015). Swimmers in Masters relay events (100-119 years + etc.) must be 25 years of age or over on 31 December in the year of competition. 11. Relay events shall be open to any affiliated clubs. A club may enter more than one relay team in any age category. Due to likely limited numbers of relays entries it is proposed that mens, ladies and mixed for all age groups will be swum as one heat for each of the relay options. However each age range/gender will be classed as a different event. A swimmer may only swim in one age group in each event. Please contact Alan Rowson by email at northwestmasters@gmail.com if you wish to include any swimmers in both mixed and single gender relays for any of the relay options. A separate heat may be included if required. 12. Please contact Alan Rowson by email northwestmasters@gmail.com or visit the SwimNorthWest website to obtain the relay entry supplement entry pack if needed. 13. A competitor may represent only one club in the Championships. 14. The 18-24 Age-group individual championships will be swum concurrently and seeded with the corresponding Masters individual events. The general conditions applying to these events shall be those of the North West Age Group Individual Swimming Championships except that all events shall be heat declared winner events and where the conditions for Masters Competitions differ they shall apply. 15. Any updates including details of warm up time and start times will be sent by email. Email addresses may be used to inform swimmers of other masters related matters. If you do not want to receive these emails please email request to northwestmasters@gmail.com. Or by post to the event organiser (address on entry form) 16. The organisers decision will be final. PROCEDURE 17. Entries can be made either electronically or via paper. Electronic entry is the organisers preferred option. Paper entries generate the organisers more work and are prone to errors. We have had issues in previous years with bouncing cheques, illegible entry forms, etc. Payment for entries made electronically will be collected via PayPal.

18. In 2012 some entrants did not wish to use electronic entry as they didn t have a PayPal account. Although we are using PayPal to collect the money, payment to PayPal can be made from a credit or debit card to PayPal, so there is no need for entrants to have a PayPal account. 19. N.B. there is a 2.00 administration fee for paper entries. 20. All entrants to this competition must read this entry pack and agree to the conditions of the competition. If entering electronically you agree to abide by the conditions laid down by the Association for this competition. 21. The link for electronic entry and payment will be placed on the SwimNorthWest web site in due course. Any questions can be emailed to northwestmasters@gmail.com Paper entries must be made on the current form within this entry pack and accompanied by the correct entry fee. Receipt of all paper entries will be acknowledged by email, however if you require acknowledgement of receipt of entry by post as well please enclose a stamped addressed envelope for the return of acknowledgement. 22. Acceptance of an entry is at the discretion of the promoter. Incomplete or inaccurate entries, particularly those not accompanied by the correct entry fee, may not be accepted. 23. The information provided on the entry form shall be regarded as definitive. Alterations (e.g. to the events entered) may not be accepted after the closing date. 24. The entry fees are 4 registration fee plus a fee per event as follows 11 for the 1500 freestyle, 9 for the 800 freestyle, 6.50 for 400 freestyle and 6.50 for 400 Individual Medley. 25. Medals or other awards as determined by the Masters Committee shall be presented. These will be awarded to the first three swimmers in each age group in each of the events. 26. Trophies The George Lea Trophy was first presented in 1998 to perpetuate the memory of Mr. George Lea and is awarded to the club accumulating the most points during the Masters Championships in a calendar year. The points from this Championship and the summer sprint championships are added together and the trophy presented at the end of the summer sprint championships. Points shall be awarded as follows: Individual and Team Event Winner 8 Points, Second 7 Points, Third 6 Points, Fourth 5 points, Fifth 4 Points, Sixth 3 Points, Seventh 2 points, Eighth 1 Point. The Nancy Yarwood Memorial Trophy was first presented in 1999. This trophy is awarded to the top female swimmer. The North West Region Top Man Trophy was first presented in 2009. This trophy is awarded to the top male swimmer. The top swimmers for these trophies will be the swimmer who scores the highest FINA points based on age adjusted times. See Masters Decathlon on ASA website for how this is calculated. The top swimmer award is for the best swim in either this Championship and the summer Sprint Championships and the trophies are presented at the end of the summer sprint championships. 27. It is proposed that the 400 freestyle will also be included in both this and the summer sprint competition. The medals or awards for the 400 freestyle will be awarded at both championships and both are eligible for North West records purposes POOL 28. WIGAN LIFE CENTRE, College Avenue, WIGAN.
