A) Reference office letter F. No. 19-35/93-CZA (98) (M) dated 28.11.2007 Sr. No Relevant Condition Norm No 1. General 1. 2 The Pheasantry shall not acquire any pheasants without the permission of the Chief Wildlife Warden under Section 11 (1) (a) and the Central Zoo Authority under Section 38I of the Act. 2. 8 The Pheasantry should be encompassed by a perimeter wall/ chain link fence/ hot wire barrier to prevent free ranging animals coming inside the Rescue Centre. Animal enclosure Designs, Dimensions and other Essential Features 3. 15 The aviaries in the Pheasantry Centre should be so designed as to fully ensure the safety of the animals and caretakers. Designed as per CZA recommendations 4. 16 The Pheasantry Operator should create/ modify/ improve animal housing (for the targeted species identified under the Master Plan). The animal enclosures in the Pheasantry should be so designed as to meet the biological requirements of the animals housed therein. The enclosure should be of such size as to ensure that the animals get space for their free movement and exercise. 5. 20 The designing of animal enclosures for endangered species should have got prior approval of the Central Zoo Authority before its construction. 3. Hygiene, feed and upkeep 6. 21 The Pheasantry operator should ensure timely supply of wholesome and unadulterated food in sufficient quantity to each animal as their required. as per CZA guidelines. 7. 25 The veterinarian should be instructed to

explore the use of such disinfectant which should not harm the animal housed therein rather using chemical disinfectant. 4 Animal Care, Health and Treatment 8. 26 The Pheasants shall be handled only by the staff having appropriate experience and training in handing the animals. Every care shall be taken to avoid discomfort/ behavioral Stress or physical harm to any animal. The Operator may get in touch with the Director, M. C. Zoological Park, Chhatbir who shall be organizing training for keepers during the month of December, 2007 funded by the CZA. 9. 30 The Pheasantry shall maintain animal history sheets and treatment cards in respect of each animal/ bird of endangered species. 5. Veterinary facilities 10. 31 The veterinary unit shall have provision of isolation and quarantine wards to take care of newly arriving and sick animals / birds as to minimize the changes of infections spreading to other animals housed at the Rescue Centre. 11. 33 The Pheasantry shall have at least a treatment room in the premises where routine examination of animals can be undertaken and immediate treatment can be provided. 14 34 Any animal that dies in the Pheasantry shall be subjected to a detailed postmortem operation by a veterinarian registered with the State Veterinary Council or Veterinary Council of India and findings of the operation shall be recorded and maintained for a period of at least six year Animal handled by experienced staff and vety doc only Vety facilities are being upgraded. 6. Maintenance of Records and Submission of inventory to the Central Zoo 13. 42 The records of birth, acquisition, disposals and deaths of the pheasants should be maintained. The inventory of the animals in the zoo as on 31 st march of every year shall be submitted to the Central Zoo Authority by 30the April of the same year. 14. 43 A brief summary of the death of pheasants in the Pheasantry for every financial year, along with the reasons of death identified on the basis of the postmortem report and diagnostic tests should be submitted to the Central Zoo Authority. 7. Development & Planning 15. 51 The Pheasantry shall prepare a theme based long-term (for a minimum period of 10 years) master plan for its development including a management plan for next six years giving details of Master layout Plan is dully approved and MP shall be shortly submitted for approval during Sept 2107. the proposals and activities of development during the period. The copies of the said plan shall be sent to the Central Zoo Authority. Wild Life Division, Kullu.

(b) The sick birds under treatment housed in rescue cage should not be opened for visitors. (c) The broken enclosure having good environment may be repaired and used for pheasants. (d) The enclosure used for rescued bear may be improved enriching and use for birds. 2. 7 (a) Provision for door/ to close be provided at the broken peripheral wall to prevent of stray dogs. (b) The fencing erected at the river bank side has been damaged and serve no purpose. Same may be either revamped or removed & used to fence around conservation breeding site. 2. Animal enclosure Designs. 3. 15 Standoff barrier with line hedge at enclosure of Monal and Kalij pheasant need to be extended up to the visitors view site for safety of birds from stray dogs. 4. 16 Plantation of bushes to provide shelter, security inside the enclosure may be carried out. 3. Hygiene, feed and upkeep 5. 21 Although birds look apparently healthy but no breeding had taken place ever. The diet schedule may be reviewed in consultation with other Peasantry or Zoo. 6. 26 Staff/ officers may be sent for training whenever conducted by zoos sponsored Central Zoo Authority. 4 Breeding programmes 7. 39 The zoo is coordinating zoo for conservation Breeding of Monal Pheasants. So far periphery wall has been constructed. Construction of enclosures should be expedited. Design of enclosures of Conservation Breeding Centre be ensured in consultation with Central Zoo Authority before construction. The area needs to be fenced again to prevent the visitors & stray dogs to go to Conservation Breeding Centre site. Hospital and logistic building shown in layout within the wall of Conservation Breeding Centre should be shifted to outside of wall. Landscape as shown in layout inside the wall is not required. 5. Education 8 45 Signages with scientific information of the birds be displayed in each enclosures. Warning signages and directional signages in enclosure and zoo entry be placed. 9 46 Leaflets, guidebooks may be published for visitors. CBC Breeding enclosures has been constructed for H. Monal as per stipulations & designs. Biologist Room has been constructed for CBC,well cordoned off from CBC by wall. Being observed Wild Life Division, Kullu.

C) Bushes and shrubs should be planted in all enclosures. 7 4(9) Hedge in between stand of barriers should be provided in all enclosures. 8. 4(10) A) Directional and warning signage s should be provided in all enclosures. B) Animal signage for Monal should be installed. 5. Upkeep and Health Care 9. 5(1)(a) Chukor and Bar headed geese should be kept in social group. 10. 5(1)(g ) Foot bath should be provided at the entrance of each enclosure. 11. 5(2)(6) The food and water samples should be got tested randomly. 12. 5(3)(4) A written schedule for vaccination should be prepared and kept near enclosures. 13. 5 (3 ) (5) The operator should be prepare and use keeper diary, daily report, animal treatment card, animal history card and studbook. (A&B): Work shall be completed during 2017-18 FY. (C).. by providing animal signages, warning & directional signages and also awareness signages showing comparative account of 7 HP Pheasants Efforts are on for doing needful during (2017-18). and stud book shall also be prepared during 2017-18

14. 5(3)(6) The staff involved in the healthcare of animals should be screened against zoonotic diseases once every year. 7. Post-mortem and disposal of carcasses of animals 16. 7(2) Post-mortem findings of animals /birds that dies in the peasantry should be recorded in CZA format 9. Acquisition and breeding of animals 17. 9(4) Mates for Chukor and Bar headed geese should be procured from recognized zoos. 18. 8(6) (b) & 9(8) The following works should be taken by the forest department of Himachal Pradesh for conservation breeding of Monal. A) May hire a biologist at its own cost to maintain records, behavioral observation and enrichment of aviaries, breeding in consultation with co-coordinating zoos and other recognized zoos. 6. Visitor Facilities 18. 12(1) A) Directional signages should be provided at every crossing at the zoo. b) Roads, Paths and lawns should be made smooth and presentable. 19. 12(2) First-aid kit and anti snake venom should be kept at the zoo premises. 21. 12(3) Ramp should be made for handicapped visitors. Efforts are on for the same and the observation shall be complied soon. For Conservation Breeding of Monal, guidance is taken from Biologist hired by HP WL wing at Sarahan Pheasantry time to time and efforts are also to hire biologist during 2017-18 and has sought permission for the same during 2017-18.For first time a chick hatched from one out of 3 pair of Monal from CBC but survived only a month. Moreover 10 chicks of Kalij hatched are healthy and safe during 2017-18. and further improvement shall be done in 2017-18. Yours faithfully, Wild Life Division, Kullu.
