DETAILS The sea kayaking program is a group activity led by a Kayak Master and supported by a safety Zodiac. To take part in the program participants must have previous kayaking experience. The program is available on all Classic Antarctica and Polar Circle trips of both Ocean Nova and Hebridean Sky. The minimum age for participation is 16 years. The price is $895 per person, payable at time of booking.
FAQs How does the program run? Participants join the program at the beginning of their expedition. They attend a briefing and training session to review the operating procedures and the equipment. Each excursion unfolds based on the local conditions and the skill level of the group. When possible and desirable, during the excursion some time is also spent exploring on land. What is difficulty level of this activity? On a 5-point scale (see below), the difficulty level is 2/3. The program offers multiple extended, non-strenuous excursions. It involves physical exercise, potentially on challenging sea conditions and uneven terrain. Participants must have previous kayaking experience. What is the group size? The maximum group size is 10 kayakers. Can I go on excursions by myself? The Antarctic environment presents special challenges. In the interest of safety, the sea kayaking program operates only as a group activity guided by an experienced Kayak Master and supported by a safety Zodiac. Independent excursions are not possible. I would like to try out kayaking but only once or twice. Can I do it? Kayaking in Antarctica requires fitted equipment and special preparation. The group program offers progressive skill development that can only take place with participation in the full program. For these reasons, it is not possible to try kayak only once or twice. Participants can opt out of an excursions (to spend more time at a landing site, for example) if they wish.
Important notice The description of the activities in our promotional material and in this document is based on past experiences and is intended as an example only. We plan the adventure activity in remote locations, where the environmental conditions are changeable and unpredictable. Each expedition is different. For this reason we cannot guarantee that the experience will take place as described or that it will take place at any specific location in Antarctica. With safety in mind, we will strive to offer you as many excursions as the weather and sea conditions will allow. If we are unable to provide you with any excursion due to weather and sea conditions, or other reasons, we will refund in full the money you paid for the activity. If we are able to provide you with at least one excursion, no refund, partial or otherwise, of the money you paid for the activity will be made to you. To take part in the kayaking program you must be able to communicate in English, and you must listen to and follow the instructions of the Kayak Master. If you do not understand the instructions, you must inform the Kayak Master right away. Participation is offered to the individual purchasing the excursion and is non-transferable. For any reason whatsoever, the Kayak Master can deny or interrupt your participation in the kayaking program. If your participation in the program is denied, ANTARCTICA XXI will refund the money you paid for the activity without further obligation to you. Like with all sporting activities, when kayaking there is potential risk of personal injury. This risk is exacerbated by the fact that you will be kayaking in extreme conditions. In signing up for the activity you accept this element of risk. You are required to have medical and travel insurance. Prior to taking part in the activity, you must sign the Release of Liability form, expressly assuming the risks associated with the kayaking program and releasing ANTARCTICA XXI and its representatives from liability and waiving all claims. You will not be permitted to participate in the kayaking program unless you sign this form.
