7 Pillars of YMCA Youth Sports Everyone Plays Safety First Character Development Positive Competition Family Involvement Sport For All Sport For Fun 2

New for 2019 - Youth Sports Pledge This is the YMCA Youth Sports Pledge, and it helps guide our commitment to team building and personal responsibility here at the Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA. Sports are a valuable and vital part in building up a child s ability to discipline themselves and learn to play with a team. At the beginning of each game, the Officials will lead the teams in reciting this pledge: Youth Sports Pledge Win or lose, to accept and demonstrate the following positive values: CARING, HONESTY, RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY. I will do the best to be a team player, to respect my: teammates, opponents, coaches and officials, and to improve myself in Spirit, Mind and Body. GAME LOCATION All games will be held at: SYA Riverside Sports Complex 1001 Riverside Blvd Sioux City, IA 51109 3

Little Slugger are given basic instruction on hitting off a tee, throwing, catching, fielding and base running. The following equipment will be provided: Batting Helmets Bats Players can bring their own bats to the games for the player s usage. 1. All players must wear the Y reversible red & white sports and rec jersey. Parents can pick up their jerseys at the Y member service desk. 2. Score is not kept. 3. No practice during the week. 4. The home team listed on the schedule will wear the white side of their jersey and the visiting team will wear the red side. 5. Rubber Cleats or Tennis shoes only. 6. Each player must bring his / her own glove. 7. There is a desired maximum of 12 players on each team. 8. The two coaches will umpire the game. 9. Games begin with a 30 minute practice time, followed by a 30 minute scrimmage. (NOTE: 1 st Saturday can be used as a full hour practice if both coaches agree) 10.Every player bats and plays in the field each inning. 11.Safety helmets must be worn while batting and running the bases. 12.There are no walks 13.There are no strikeouts 14.No stealing or leading off the bases 15.All fielders must stay behind the pitching rubber before the ball is hit. 16.The ball must travel beyond the 10 foot arc or it is a foul ball. 17.The ball needs to be thrown or ran to bases and not rolled. 18.The visiting team on the schedule will bat first: the home team will take the field. 19.Coaches may add as many assistants as they feel necessary out on the field to assist players, as long as it doesn t interfere with the play of the game. 20. NO PETS ARE ALLOWED IN THE SPORTS COMPLEX. This is a city ordinance. 4

PRACTICE You are allowed to practice one time during the week for 45-60 minutes. You will need to find a practice location. SITE SUPERVISOR The Sports and Recreation department will provide a Site Supervisor each week during the season. The site supervisor will be wearing an orange shirt with Y Staff on the front. Their responsibility is to answer questions, resolve conflicts, supply basic first aid supplies, and contact emergency personnel. NO TOLERANCE POLICY Trash talking, obscene gestures, spiking the ball or other unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated. The Y staff reserves the right to suspend any player for unsportsmanlike behavior during games or practices. Referees and/ or staff will be allowed to assess 10 yard penalties on any player or coach for inappropriate behavior during games. Coaches who demonstrate this type of behavior will be required to meet with the Sports and Rec Director and other staff deemed necessary for the situation. Players will be removed from the game for a period deemed necessary by Y staff. CONCUSSION POLICY If you suspect that an athlete has a concussion, remove the athlete from play and seek medical attention. Do not try to judge the severity of the injury yourself. Keep the athlete out of play the day of the injury and that child will need to be evaluated by a health care professional before it is okay for them to return to play. The parents will need to show the coach a written note from the health care professional clearing them to play and the coach will notify the Sports and Rec department. Remember if in doubt sit them out. CANCELLATION PROCEDURE If games are cancelled, you will receive an email and text message from PLAYERSPACE notifying you of the cancellations. Also, you can check for any game cancellations on the YMCA's Facebook page (Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA) or go our website at www.nwsymca.org and scroll to the bottom of the home page to see our Facebook widget with current updates of any game cancellations.
