REGISTRATION OPENS 8 JANUARY 2019 CLOSES MIDNIGHT 27 FEB 2019 Register here: http://www.chantillyyouth.org/registration/index_e.html CYA LITTLE LEAGUE CHARTERS WITH LITTLE LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL All divisions from Tee Ball through Majors are chartered with Little League and must follow Little League Rules and Regulations. All players must reside (or attend a school full time) within our Chantilly American or Chantilly National Little League boundaries. Teams will be comprised of players from the same league and will play interleague games. All players in Minors (AA, AAA) and Majors will be drafted to teams after attending player assessments/tryouts. Single A, Coach Pitch, and Tee Ball teams are primarily formed based on neighborhoods and schools. All players will have the LL Patch on their left uniform jersey sleeve. CYA Little League is defined by the Little League geographical boundary method. Players must reside within or attend (full time) a school that resides within the CYA LL boundary. The official CYA Little League boundary maps and the schools that are located within our league boundaries are here: http://www.eteamz.active.com/valldist10/files/chantillyboundarymaps.pdf. CYA Little League is part of the Little League Southeast Region, Virginia District 10. There are 16 LL districts in the Commonwealth of Virginia. District 10 leagues and boundary maps can be found here: https://www.eteamz.com/valldist10/files/virginiadistrict10boundarymap.pdf VOLUNTEERS CYA Little League is an all volunteer organization. We can t do what we do without you. Please consider volunteering to coach, umpire, work the snack shack, help maintain our fields, work a field improvement project, become a sponsor, and more. Even if you don t step up as a head coach, parents are needed at practices. Helping players learn how and where to throw the ball, and which direction to run and when to run is a full team effort. More importantly, it really is fun! Each AA, AAA, and Majors team is required to have a Snack Shack Coordinator. The team Snack Shack Coordinator will be the point of contact for schedule coordination between the league and the parents on each team. Every parent from AA through Majors is expected to fill at least one shift in the Snack Shack at Chantilly Park. You will be able to sign up for shifts once the season schedule is posted. WHAT IS LEAGUE AGE? Little League determines eligibility by league age. Please check the league age chart for 2019 here. WHAT ARE TYPICAL BASEBALL DIVISIONS BY AGE? Players below the typical age for a division must tryout to play up. When registering, if applicable, check the play up box and select the desired division to play up to. www.chantillylittleleague.org 1/26/2019 6:11 PM 1

DIVISION AGES FEE DESCRIPTION REGULAR REGISTRATION PERIOD LATE REGISTRATION PERIOD** LATE FEE** Tee Ball 1 Jan 17 Mar 18 Mar 7 Apr $20 Tee 4 6 $105 Players hit from a tee Coach Pitch 6 7 $105 Coach pitch Minors A 8 $135 Machine pitch 1 Jan 27 Feb 28 Feb 15 Mar AA 9 $155 Player pitch 1 Jan 27 Feb 28 Feb 15 Mar** $20 AAA 10 11 $155 Player pitch 1 Jan 27 Feb 28 Feb 15 Mar** $20 Majors 11 12 $155 Player pitch 1 Jan 27 Feb None Challenger 4 22 $30 Children with physical or mental challenges 1 Jan 1 May ** Late registration does not guarantee placement on a team WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TEE BALL AND COACH PITCH? Tee Ball is for first time players. In Tee Ball, players hit a ball off a batting tee. Tee Ball and Coach Pitch teams are kept small to maximize hitting and fielding opportunities for each player. Players hit a soft, safety ball off a batting tee and run one base at a time, while fielders learn to field the ball and throw the ball to first base. Every player bats and plays the field every inning. All players are safe on the bases. Coach Pitch is for players who have completed a season of Tee Ball. Coaches pitch a soft, safety ball to players (a tee is used if batter unable to hit the pitches) while fielders learn to field the ball and throw the ball to any appropriate base. Every player bats and plays the field in each inning. Players begin to learn the concept of force outs, and the position of catcher. TYPICAL BASEBALL DIVISIONS BY AGE Players below the typical age for a division must tryout to play up. When registering, if applicable, check the play up / play down box and enter the desired division to play up to. Tee Ball ages 4 6, players hit from a tee Coach Pitch ages 6 7, coach pitch from a short distance Single A age 8, machine pitch AA age 9, player pitch AAA ages 10 11, player pitch Majors ages 10 12, player pitch Challenger boys and girls age 4 22 with physical or mental disabilities WHY ARE FEES DIFFERENT BY DIVISIONS AND HOW ARE THEY USED? Our parent organization, the Chantilly Youth Association (CYA), provides our registration, administration, accounting, insurance, and filing taxes charges each sport participant (each season) 25.00. Fairfax County charges a fee of $5.50 to each diamond field user for use of county fields (parks and schools). www.chantillylittleleague.org 1/26/2019 6:11 PM 2

CYA Little League pays for a scheduling and communication website (currently LeagueAthletics) that provides more flexibility and ease of use than CYA s Demosphere system. While the Washington Nationals Uniform Program provides jerseys and hats for players, CYA LL incurs additional uniform and equipment costs such as the required LL patch on each player jersey, coach s shirts, practice and game balls, catcher s gear, pitching machines, tees, field equipment and materials, field maintenance, and more. Tee Ball and Coach Pitch are primarily played on Fairfax County Park Authority fields where CYA LL does no field maintenance. WHAT AND WHEN ARE PLAYER ASSESSMENTS? All players hoping to play AA, AAA, and Majors must attend player assessments that will be held Sat 2 March from 12 noon to 8 PM (specific times will be posted on our website and Facebook page soon) at the CYA Fieldhouse, 14810 Murdock Street, Chantilly, VA 20151. Players will throw, field, run, and hit while observed and rated by team managers and league officials. Ratings will be used by managers to help draft players to teams. Players should wear sneakers (no cleats), dress like a baseball player (hat, baseball pants, shirt tucked in), and bring a glove. Players may bring a helmet and bat, but not required. HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED? AA, AAA, and Majors teams will be formed through league drafts. While all 12 year old players must be drafted to a Majors team (unless a waiver requested by parents and approved for the 12 year old to play AAA), the number of 11 and 10 year old players who might be drafted is a function of their assessment and whether they are selected in the draft. Drafts will normally be held within two weeks of player assessments. Tee Ball, Coach Pitch, & Single A teams will be formed by neighborhoods, schools, and special requests by league. Players are not assigned to teams based upon their desired practice night or carpool requests. WHAT WILL MY CHILD NEED TO PARTICIPATE? Your child should have athletic shoes or cleats, a glove, and a batting helmet for all games and practices. Shoes with metal spikes or cleats are not permitted. Players will need to provide socks, a belt, and uniform pants. The league will provide a hat and a jersey to each player as well as catcher s gear for each team. Players should wear baseball pants and tuck in their shirts for assessments, practices and games. Player Pitch players (AA, AAA, & Majors) should wear baseball (or soccer) cleats. Tee, Coach Pitch, and Machine Pitch (A) players may wear sneakers. All boys should wear a protective cup. No player may play the position of catcher without a protective cup. WHAT TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE? Chantilly Little League offers many opportunities for parent, coach, and player training throughout the year. Coaches are required to attend at least one of three early spring clinics. Parents and coaches are encouraged to attend Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) workshops. Players will have opportunities to attend academy style clinics/mini camps. www.chantillylittleleague.org 1/26/2019 6:11 PM 3

Umpire training is conducted before the start of every season for youth and adult umpires. Training opportunities will be posted on our website. WHEN DOES THE SPRING SEASON START & END? Practices will begin in late March and games will begin by early April. Most FCPA fields do not open until the end of March. Tee Ball and Coach Pitch practices will begin near the end of March. Player pitch divisions will conclude play by the first weekend in June while Tee Ball, Coach Pitch, and A will play through the second weekend in June. AA, AAA, And Majors will end the season with a house tournament. HOW OFTEN AND LONG ARE PRACTICES AND GAMES? DIVISION PRACTICES GAMES OTHER TEE BALL 1 weeknight (~1hr) 1 Saturday (1hr 30min) Schedule permitting, 1 MINORS (A) 1 weeknight (~1.5hr) 1 Saturday (1hr 45min) game under lights MINORS AA & AAA 1 weeknight (1.5 2hr) 1 weeknight & 1 Saturday (2hr 20min) MAJORS 1 weeknight (1.5 2hr) 1 weeknight & 1 Saturday (~2hr) CHALLENGER Fridays (up to 2 hr) Friday evening I D LIKE TO MANAGE, COACH, OR UMPIRE WHAT SHOULD I DO? Managers (head coaches) are responsible for coordinating communication with player families, conducting practices, managing games, and knowing the rules. Coaches (assistant coaches) assist the manager in conducting practices, developing players, know the rules, and fill in for the manager when needed. If you are interested in managing, coaching, or umpiring please check the appropriate box when registering your player. If you do not have a child to register, but wish to volunteer, please use the volunteer registration through the CYA Registration website (http://www.chantillyyouth.org/registration/index_e.html). Upon volunteering to manage or coach, all volunteers will be sent a link to an on line Little League background check. All volunteers must submit and clear a criminal background check to be appointed as a manager, coach, or on field helper. If you have any questions, please contact our safety officer at safety@chantillylittleleague.org. Managers are recommended by our league vice presidents and coaching coordinator. Then all managers, coaches, and umpires are appointed by the league president and subject to final approval by the Chantilly Little League Board of Directors. Managers and coaches will be required to attend at least one of multiple training opportunities each spring. Adult umpires will be required to attend training if they have not previously done so. Youth umpires all need to attend the training on Sat 2 Apr if they have not attended a spring umpire training session. This includes fall trained umpires who have not taken the spring training session. Youth umpires must attend the full session. Managers and coaches will be required to attend a coaches meeting. Managers are expected to attend player assessments and the drafts. I WANT TO VOLUNTEER, BUT I HAVE NEVER COACHED BEFORE. CAN I? Knowledge of the game is essential, but it is not the only badge of a Little League coach or manager. It is required that the manager and coach have understanding, patience and the capacity to work with children. The manager www.chantillylittleleague.org 1/26/2019 6:11 PM 5

and coach should be able to inspire respect. Above all else, managers and coaches must realize that they are helping to shape the physical, mental and emotional development of young people. Little League International recognizes and appreciates the challenges that come with being a Little League manager or coach, so it has developed a free on line coaching resource that Little League managers and coaches can turn to for reference, education, or to stay current with the latest drills and coaching techniques. The Little League Coaches Resource Center, located on the World Wide Web at: www.littleleaguecoach.org, is a free service created by Little League International in cooperation with Cramer Digital Marketing and Event Solutions in Norwood, Mass. Little League has put together a Tee Ball Program guide for coaches (http://www.littleleague.org/assets/2013teeball.pdf) as well as a Coach Pitch program guide (http://www.littleleague.org/assets/forms_pubs/coachpitch/weeks 1 12.pdf) both pf which can be applied to players of all ages. USA Baseball has a mobile app (playball Mobile Coach) and a great website (http://web.usabaseball.com/playball/) with practice plans and more. CYA Little League posts many useful references on our website under documents as well as the Hey Coach section of the website. www.chantillylittleleague.org 1/26/2019 6:11 PM 6
