Stratum Star at Stud! Stable favourite STRATUM STAR has let down superbly and has taken to his new career like a duck to water. Widden Stud are pleased to announce the first mare preg tested is in foal! Stratum Star was an outstanding horse for the stable winning two Group 1 races (Rupert Clarke Stakes 1400m at Caulfield and the Kingston Town Classic 1880m at Ascot). He won or placed in 23 of his 33 starts with Darren Weir Racing and as Darren puts it, "Stratum Star is a horse you'd love to go war with, I think he'll make a great stallion". Speed, longevity and courage - traits that often summed up Stratum Star as a racehorse and he's expected to have a great influence at stud given these qualities. By a Golden Slipper winner and Champion 2yo sire Stratum from the immediate family of champion mare Emancipation he's certainly got the pedigree to match his looks and race record. For any breeders still deciding on a stallion, Widden Stud are happy to offer clients of Darren Weir Racing a special spring discount. Congratulations Toni and KC Sandown brings great joy to James Macleod In October 2016 Wingatui jockeys Toni Direen and KC Walters moved to Ballarat to join the Darren Weir team as full time track riders. The couple are now a strong part of our team here at Darren Weir s as excellent riders, hard workers, and fun characters around the stables. We want to congratulate them on their recent engagement and wish them all the best for the future. James Macleod is our lucky feature owner of the month after he snared wins at three consecutive Sandown race meetings with his two mares. Bonus D oro (below) took the first two wins starting on August 16 th in the Benchmark 64 over 1400m, followed by the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 70 on August 30 th. Costa Bomb (above) then proved herself too good on September 6 th when she won the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 70 over 1300m. James has been a dedicated owner with the stable for 10 years now and we are so happy for him with his recent successes. He is one of the team and a top bloke to train for. We wish him continued success with all his current and future race horses. Lee Purchase with Rosemary Inglis from the Wakefield Club winning the strappers prize at Benalla Cup Day with the horse Moonovermanhattan.
Admire Deus says Konichiwa to Australia In the words from traveling foreman Matt Scown. Quarantine in Japan with Admire Deus was a fantastic experience and a real eye opener. To be in a country which breeds and races some of the best stayers around and to see how they train their horses was something that I will never forget. Whilst in Japan Admire Deus and I began our time together at Katsumi Yoshida s Northern Farm training centre in Sapporo. The training centre owned by Mr Yoshida was amazing, the facilities were incredible, and the staff were all very professional and considered themselves very privileged to be involved with the topquality thoroughbreds they work with. After one week in Sapporo Admire Deus and I travelled 15 hours south to Mr Yoshida s Fukushima-based Northern Farm Training Centre where we entered Northern Farm s own private quarantine barn for our twoweek preparation for our flight back to Australia. Admire Deus was the only horse in quarantine during our stay but that did not bother him at all. He loved his routine which included very early starts for his track work, lunch time and evening visits. Northern Farm opened all of their facilities for us which included the 800m uphill track, the 1000m round sand track, and the 1200m round wood chip track. Having these different tracks available has meant Darren had plenty of options to keep Admire Deus busy and get him fit in his preparation to take on the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. We were released from quarantine on the 25 th of September to fly to Australia to begin the second half of quarantine at Werribee. The flight couldn t have gone any better with Admire Deus handling the two flights and massive travel time without any problems. Arriving in Melbourne he only lost 7kg and was quick to put it back on which is extremely good for a first-time flyer. Since he was already accustomed to being by himself he settled into quarantine straight away and was ready to begin work. We had the Werribee quarantine centre all to ourselves for four days before the Europeans started to arrive, so Admire Deus, Shinya Mori (rider) and I were able to have a thorough look around the complex and track. Whilst we ve been here at Werribee we have been fortunate enough to have jockey Craig Williams come to ride Admire Deus three times a week so he s already started to develop a great understanding of the horse and his particular characteristics. We have less than one week to go before we are released from quarantine to join the stable, Admire Deus is working extremely well and looking great, so it s full steam ahead towards his first start here in Australia.

We have a large number of 2015 horses that are still not registered or named, therefore we would appreciate an update on the status of these registrations and how long we can expect it will take to get the horse named. Darren is adamant that all unnamed horses are to be named before coming into work or at the very least the registration is lodged within the first week or two. If this is not achievable within our timeframe for any reason, whether you may still be selling the horse or you are away on holiday, please contact Oprah at the office as soon as possible so she can advise Darren. Without the horse registration we are unable to send your horse to an official trial or get a barrier certificate, both of which will unnecessarily delay the progress of your horse. If you have any questions about registrations please contact Oprah and she will assist you to the best of her ability. oprah@darrenweirracing.com.au.
