CELEBRATING 26 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Kansas City Chapter - American Singles Golf Association - November 2017 President s Report If you did not attend the annual Awards Banquet on November 4, you missed a wonderful evening. Close to 70% of our members enjoyed an evening full of good camaraderie, delicious food, and lively dancing. Thank you, Barb Gawlik and Vince Vaughan, for putting on such a great event for us! It was an honor to receive the Woman of the Year award. I was also very happy for Dohn Kennyhertz being awarded the Man of the Year and Donna DeLeon the Sportsmanship Award. Congratulations to both of you! Special thanks to Debbie Opfer for handling the voting process again this year. Vince gave special recognition to many other deserving individuals, but I will let you read more about that in the Social Report. KSCGA is an awesome organization full of wonderful people, and the awards banquet is a great time to show how much we appreciate each other. Although our official 2017 golf season has concluded, we still have a few fun things to look forward to before the end of the year. At our General Meeting on December 21, KSGA will provide appetizers. If you want to participate in a gift exchange, you can bring a wrapped gift, valued up to $15 max, to the meeting. In addition, Donna is hosting a fun New Year s Eve party again. I hope you will plan to join us for both of these fun events. You can find out more about both in the Social Report. As always, I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming General Meeting at Birdies this Thursday, November 16. Social time starts at 6 and the meeting starts at 6:30. ~Susie Harwood, President VP Report 2017 is quickly drawing to a close and you all have been great, participating in our fund raising raffles! It really helped to put on a lovely banquet last week, so give yourselves a big pat on the back! This last month we raised 133.00 in golf rounds and golf ball sales. Winners of two rounds apiece to Shoal Creek were; Bob Fisher, Randy Gerard and Donna Deleon! (I promise I did not rig anything, I have never won anything in the group before!) That brought our total for the year in golf fundraising to 2208.00. Next month will be everyone's favorite "50/50" drawing with half going to the group and half to the lucky winner! As a side note, we had about 65.00 profit in Calendar sales and plan to do it again next year. If you have any pictures you would like included, please contact me ~Donna D., VP Upcoming Multi-Chapter Events (see SinglesGolf.com/events) New Year's Event - January 2-5, 2018 - We decided to have this event in heaven this year, The Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island, Florida. Denver ASGA's Labor Day 2018 Golf Weekend - September 1-3, 2018. Flyer with general details are at SinglesGolf.com/ LaborDay2018 Costs and other details out in January, 2018. ASGA in Ireland / Northern Ireland July, 2018 - Just a thought at this point but we haven t been to Ireland since 2014. We ve experienced Scotland twice and Spain once. Julie is already hard at work putting together next season s schedule. ~Bev Hembree & Curtis McCall., Golf Chairs Membership News Membership is a little quiet this time of year, but we are still 109 members strong. My email is jarobertson918@gmail.com. ~Julie & Cheryl Social News Sixty-nine members attended the Awards Banquet enjoying a fabulous dinner, awards and dancing. The first awards were given to 6 holies. These members all had a hole-inone this past year: Debbie Opfer, Anita Mooney, Frank Chop, George Howell, Curtis McCall and Bob Haefele. Ask Bob about his always handy putting prize! The second group of awards were for the spirit movers. These ladies showed great spirit after medical issues kept them off the golf course-they persevered and are back in the game. They are Cheryl Settle, Bev Hembree, Judy Stanton, Sara Swearingen, Anna Kiley and our illustrious leader Susie Harwood. The third group of awards went to the Super Heroes. Tom Easterly, Keith Willes and Rae Ann Brown have shown great strength and endurance this last year while battling the forces of evil. Their determination and great attitude are an inspiration to all of us. The final awards went to Dohn Kennyhertz for Man of the Year, Susie Harwood for Woman of the Year and Donna DeLeon for Sportsperson of the Year. These members hard work and positive attitude make our Chapter one of the most active and welcoming groups in ASGA. We have some exciting events coming up to end the 2017 year. The First Friday on December 1st will be held at Barleys Kitchen & Tap, 11924 W. 119th, O.P., KS. starting at 4:00. There will be $2 off on draft beers and 1/2 off house wine and select cocktails. We will have a Christmas gift exchange at the December general meeting along with appetizers for all the hungry golfers. Gifts should be gender neutral and no more than $15. We will end 2017 and bring in 2018 at our gracious host, Donna DeLeon s house! Look for further details in upcoming emails! ~Vince and Barb

... Continued from previous page American Singles Golf Association October, 2017 SinglesGolf.com/TheNextShot Will You Serve on your Board Next Year? It s an annual thing. Each chapter, whether you know it or not, is led by people, a/k/a volunteers, who take their time and make life nice for you. Each chapter has bylaws (www.singlesgolf.com/bylaws), and is required to elect a new chapter president each year and committee chair positions (golf, social, membership and communications). Other positions are appointed, e.g. secretary and treasurer. After everything s in place, your chapter should look like this: www.singlesgolf.com/organizationalchart These people comprise your Board of Directors who is ultimately responsible for making sure things run right to assure more fun, fellowship and fairways. Your chapter s bylaws require you to 1) set-up a Nomination s Committee to seek individuals to serve in the various committees, 2) have an election in October for a new chapter president and 3) have an election in November for the four (4) committee heads (golf, social, membership and communications). All new officers take office on January 1. If you re interested in serving on the Board of your chapter, please don t hesitate to speak up and become part of the decision-making process. Contact your current leaders. As always, your service to your chapter is much appreciated. Terms are for one year only but it can be a life changing event in your life. Become a leader or support your newly elected chapter leaders. A job description for each position can be located at the following links: www.singlesgolf.com/president www.singlesgolf.com/golf www.singlesgolf.com/membership www.singlesgolf.com/social www.singlesgolf.com/communication It s been said many times that the Number One job of a chapter president is to delegate to each of the four committee chairs. If a president does it all, next year, then there s a good chance no one will want to serve in that position the following year. Now is the time to start thinking about next year. Now is the time for all good members to come to the aid of their chapter. Seriously, folks, lend a hand and step up to the plate! Tauck, a 92-year-old company that started providing tours to parts of America and Canada many people had never seen, has helped ASGA plan this trip with a promise our members will thoroughly enjoy from private tours of small and historic French towns along the Seine River to the beauty of the MS Swiss Sapphire ship itself, the professionalism of the Tauck staff, to the highly acclaimed food that will be prepared for us each evening. Having taken this itinerary as a site visit in October of last year, I can personally attest to the great first class value. ASGA has special pricing. We never pay what the public pays for our multi-chapter events, whether on the mainland or overseas. (We re not allowed to actually tell you price difference, but if you go to the website and click on the COST tab, you ll see for yourself.) Our itinerary is to visit the historic monuments in Rouen, the English Channel villages of Etretat and Honfleur, Jumieges Abbey, one of the great Benedictines of France, Chateau Gaillard, Claude Monet s home and a lot more. At our halfway point on the cruise, we ll visit the D-Day beaches of Normandy.
