It was nice to see the boats coming and going all weekend. I would like to thank the guys that were around all last week, Joe Usle, John John and Ron Ilk, for getting the new ice machine installed as well as the new console for the gas sales. By now I am sure you have all heard that we had a break in early Morning July 3 rd. Around 3am two gentlemen left the harbor with some fishing gear, electronics, and a raft. For your own safety, please remember to clean up the areas around the front of your boat and properly stow any loose equipment. The South Milwaukee Police department have been in touch with our members and are working hard to keep our harbor safe. If you or anyone you know has any information or has seen any suspicious activity, please contact someone on the board so they can pass the information to the proper authorities. It is amazing how fast the year has gone, July is the month that we start to think about the following year s Leadership Team. If you are interested in getting involved with the Board let Mike Gengler know. The elections for the Board Members are at the Annual General Membership Meeting in October. We have a great club and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy yourself. All kinds of activities are on the horizon from the Summer Picnic, Fish-on, the Powder Puff, Slip Shots, etc. If you would like to help with any of these events let me know and I m sure we can get you involved. If you would like to sponsor your own event I can point you in the right direction for that as well. See you at the club, Bryan Gahan SMYC Commodore (c) 906-369-4098 (e) smyccommodore@gmail.com Past Commodore Comments quote of the Month. WHO S WHO OF SMYC LIFETIME MEMBERS Warren Hudzinski Joined: February 1, 1969 This month I would like to tell you about one of our SMYC Lifetime members, Warren Hudzinski, aka Hud or Hud the Horrible. Hud joined SMYC on February 1, 1969 and served as commodore of SMYC in 1998. He went the full circuit on boats from wooden to fiberglass. He always called the East wall his home. He was out there with Donnie Minch on the Dana Marie, George Gilmore on the Southwind, Butch Webb on the Bikini and Ben Chadwick on Ben s Yen. Hud acted tough on the outside but was always there to lend a hand when you needed it. I remember listening and watching him talk a member through rebuilding a carburetor on a 454 after a small washer fell into it. Or helping a member with a wooden boat who needed extra bilge pumps for the first couple of days after launch. (Launch was always interesting with wooden boats!) Of course, Hud liked his liquid refreshments and it was 5 o clock somewhere (anywhere) long before it was a Jimmy Buffet song! Hud and his life partner Patty Lack, loved to travel to all of the Open Houses along the lake and were well known at: Kenosha, Fifth Street, and Harbor Lights. They were also members of the Calumet Yacht Club on the South Side of Chicago. They invited that crew to all of the SMYC functions and we all got to know Red and the gang from Calumet. If I remember correctly, Patty had a close call at the annual pig roast going up against some of the Calumet ladies when it came to the pig calling contest. She went up against some pretty good pig callers! Even though they no longer have a boat in the SMYC harbor, Hud and Patty s home in Florida is a safe harbor for many members passing through the state each winter. You will see them every August as they return to the North woods to meet with family and friends. Keep an eye out for Hud once you know him you won t ever forget him!

South Milwaukee Yacht Club 101 Marshall Avenue South Milwaukee, WI 53172 The June fishing contest was well represented with Skipper II, Aqua Condo, Danger Zone, Tim s Boat and Stryker. In the end, Tim Vanselow took first with 9 Coho, 4 Lakers, a King and a Rainbow. A nice 3 man limit. Justin Zblewski had the largest King Salmon and the Big Coho. Todd Sivak had the big Rainbow Trout, and Dan Moshinski had the largest Lake Trout. Shawn Zoltak cooked a nice lunch of Brats, Italians, and hot dogs. Next contest is July 24th through 26th.
