BALLROOM STYLE & LATIN STYLE COMPETITION ballroom@dwcworld.com OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS NOVEMBER 2018 Dance World Cup (DWC) is organised by DWC Limited, which is incorporated under the laws of Jersey, Channel Islands and registered under the number 103706. 1. PARTICIPANTS 1.1 Entries must be submitted by the principal of a dance school/club/association. 2. QUALIFICATION 2.1 For details of DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style Competition please refer to the DWC website (www.dwcworld.com). 2.2 DWC participants for the Ballroom Style and Latin Style Competition are by invite only. Participants must be entered by a country that hold a DWC qualifier. 3. AGE 3.1 There will be three age groups Mini 4-9.11 Children 10-13.11 Juniors 14-18.11 3.2 A competitor s age is taken on 1 January of the year the DWC Finals takes place. 3.3 In couples, small formations and large formations the age of the oldest competitor will determine the class age category. 3.4 The maximum age of competitors for the Ballroom Style and Latin Style Competition is 18 Years and 11 months. 3.5 DWC reserves the right to ask for proof of age. 3.6 In all solo classes, competitors must dance in the class for their age. 4. COUNTRY REPRESENTATION AT DWC FINALS 4.1 Each country that is invited to participate in the DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style Competition can enter in the following DWC classes:- Solo dancers maximum of 6 in each age band category (18 in total). Couples maximum of 20 (10 pairs) in each age band category (60 in total). Formation dancers as required. 4.2 Competitors can either enter the solo competition or the couples competition, but not both. 4.3 A solo competitor can only dance in the age category that they are permitted to enter. 4.4 For Couples competing - minis and children can only dance with one partner in their correct age band category but can dance in a category older than themselves. For example: minis could dance in minis, children and junior. Children can dance in junior as well as children. Again, only one entry. 4.5 Dancers can perform in up to three formation groups in each age group, as long as they are within the age band category. For example: a mini could enter 9 formations, 3 in each group; whilst a junior would be limited to three formations in the junior category. 4.6 In the event of a tie in a class, the judges will decide which dance/s will qualify for the DWC Grand Overall Final for Ballroom Style and Latin Style. 4.7 DWC will not accept more than the maximum number of dances permitted in each class. 5. ENTRY 5.1 Entry information for the DWC Ballroom Style and DWC Latin Style Competition is available on the DWC website (www.dwcworld.com). 5.2 Information submitted to DWC will be used for all competition documents, i.e. programming, certificates, etc. 5.3 By entering a DWC competition, all dancers consent to DWC and its partners videoing, photographing and recording them at any time during the DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style Competition including during their performances, at DWC events and in and around the venue. Videos/photos may be used by DWC and its partners, including but not limited to in advertising and promotional materials, the DWC website, social media and distributed to the press. 6. ENTRY CLOSING DATE 6.1 The DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style entry closing date will be 30 th March, 2019. 7. ENTRY FEES 7.1 Entry fees are published on the DWC website (www.dwcworld.com). 7.2 The costs will be: Solo 1 dance. 25 Euros 2 dances. 35 Euros 3 dances. 50 Euros 4 dances. 55 Euros 5 dances. 60 Euros Couples (cost per couple) 1 dance. 50 Euros 2 dances. 70 Euros 3 dances. 100 Euros 4 dances. 110 Euros 5 dances. 120 Euros Formations Small formation. 40 Euros per formation (not per dancer) Large formation. 60 Euros per formation (not per dancer) 7.3 Photos will be taken and available as part of the fee, free of charge. No other video will be supplied in this competition. 8. RESTRICTIONS IN PARTICIPATION 8.1 Plagiarism of other dances is not permitted. Action will be taken if a complaint is made. 8.2 Soloists cannot perform in the same solo class twice. 8.3 Dancers can perform in only one formation or couple in a particular class even if dancing with different partner(s). 8.4 Dancers can perform in as many formations as they wish, but couples can only dance in the specified age group once. 8.5 Small formations must contain a minimum of 4 dancers and a maximum or 10 dancers. 8.6 Large formations must contain a minimum of 11 dancers, no maximum. 9. EXCHANGE OF DANCERS / SUBSTITUTE DANCERS 9.1 Dancers may be exchanged as follows: 10. CLASSES a) Couple one dancer can be exchanged from the dancers who were accepted by the DWC Qualifier Organiser. b) Small and large formations up to 50% of dancers can be exchanged from the dancers who were accepted by the DWC Qualifier Organiser. 10.1 DWC BALLROOM STYLE - (Content to be confirmed) DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style - Official Rules and Regulations 2018/2019 Page 3

Minis will dance - Waltz/Quickstep/Tango For those qualifying for the Grand Final they will be required to dance the Vienesse Waltz. Children will dance - Waltz/Vienesse Waltz/Quickstep/ Slow Foxtrot For those qualifying for the Grand Final they will be required to dance the Tango Juniors will dance Waltz/Vienesse Waltz/Quickstep/Tango For those qualifying for the Grand Final they will be required to dance the Slow Foxtrot 10.2 DWC LATIN STYLE Minis will dance Samba/Cha Cha/Jive. For those qualifying for the Grand Final they will be required to dance the Rhumba Children will dance Cha Cha/Rhumba /Jive For those qualifying for the Grand Final they will be required to dance the Samba. Juniors will dance - Samba/Cha Cha/Rhumba /Jive For those qualifying for the Grand Final they will be required to dance the Pasa Doble Formations must be between 4 to 6 minutes in length and combine as many dances from either Latin or Ballroom or both. 10.3 The Grand Finals will be determined by the two best dance scores in each category. In each age group there will be two Grand Finals one for DWC Ballroom Style and another for DWC Latin Style. 10.4 If you qualify for the Grand Final you will dance the Judges Choice and one dance of your choosing. The dance will last between 2 minutes and 2 minutes 30 seconds. 11. CLASS ORDER 11.1 Class order will be determined by a draw on the day. 11.2 DWC reserve the right to change the running order of a class. 11.3 DWC reserves the right to merge two or more small classes together or divide a larger class into multiple sections. 12. TIME LIMITS 12.1 The competition order will be drawn on the day - between 6 and 8 couples in each heat. 12.3 For the Solo and Couple classes - competitors will dance on the floor exclusively for approximately 30 seconds. 12.4 After all couples within the heat have danced, all those within the heat will then be invited to return to the dance floor for a further 90 seconds of adjudication. The Head Judge will give the signal for the heat to start. This system will be repeated for each different class. DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style - Official Rules and Regulations 2018/2019 Page 4

12.5 The next round will be determined by the couples score. The qualifiers will be the couples with the highest scores. 12.4 Formations large or small any combination of Ballroom and Latin styles will perform one group at a time for 4-6 minutes maximum. 13. MUSIC 13.1 A live band will play the music for the solo and couple classes. 13.2 Music will be the same for all competitors in the heat. 13.3 Music will have a definite ending so that finishing moves can be executed. 13.4 For the Formations the music should be between 4-6 minutes in length. This must be provided by the dance teacher and submitted following the instructions available at www.dwcworld.com. All music must be submitted by the date specified on the website. 14.6 Tempi of Dances The tempi of the music for DWC Ballroom and Latin Style (TBC) DWC Ballroom Style: Waltz: Tango: Vienesse Waltz Slow Foxtrot Quickstep DWC Latin Style Cha Cha Cha: Samba: Rhumba Paso Doble Jive 28 bpm 32 bpm 60 bpm 28 bpm 50 bpm 30 bpm 48 bpm 24 bpm 56 bpm 42 bpm 15. JUDGING 15.1 The judging panel at the DWC Ballroom and Latin Style Finals will consist of Internationally acclaimed dancers, dance teachers or registered Ballroom adjudicators. Each class will be judged by 3 members of this judging panel. 15.2 Points are given to every dance. The maximum score at the DWC Ballroom and Latin Style Finals is 100. 15.3 The following judging criteria will be applied (For a breakdown of the scoring please see (ATTACHMENT 2) CRITERIA Choreography - suitability/complexity of movements for the dancer/s. Technique - Quality in executing the movement and or working in a group or partner if applicable. Demonstrate Posture, balance, control clarity of lines and maintain good use of frame, floor craft and spatial awareness. Artistic Interpretation including performance and presentation skills Musicality of the dancer(s) Rhythm/Timing ability to demonstrate dynamic qualities within the music POINTS 25 points maximum 25 points maximum 25 points maximum 25 points maximum 15.4 DWC Ballroom Style and DWC Latin Style will not be as strict as other Ballroom competitions. However, the basic steps must be adhered to and evident in the choreography. The character of the dance must be clearly recognisable. 15.5 The decision of the judging panel is final and cannot be changed, there will be no discussions. 16. SCORES 16.1 First place will be awarded a gold medal regardless of the number of points received. 16.2 If two dances receive the same number of marks at the DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style Finals then a tied place is awarded. 16.3 DWC medals will be presented to 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd places. All dancers participating will be invited to attend the DWC Opening Parade and both of the DWC parties held during the week. 17. STAGE 17.1 Stage dimension information will be available on the DWC website (www.dwcworld.com) in March of the competition year. 17.2 These dimensions are confirmed by the venue to DWC and may be subject to change. DWC cannot be held responsible for any changes. 17.3 DWC reserves the right to change the venue of the competition or to use multiple venues if necessary. 18. THEATRE ADMISSION DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style - Official Rules and Regulations 2018/2019 Page 6

18.1 Teachers will receive a teacher wristband at the DWC Finals which gives them free admission to all three auditoriums. This does not include entry for the Gala(s). 18.2 The distribution of teacher wristbands will be based on the size of the school entry at the DWC Show Dance Ballroom. A maximum of 5 wristbands will be available to teachers per dance school. 18.3 All other persons, dancers, parents, supporters and the general public will have to purchase a ticket on entry to the theatre. The Dancers Lanyard will allow access to all auditoriums subject to space availability. 18.4 The DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style class sessions plus Grand Final performances are open to the general public. 19. DRESSING ROOMS / BACK STAGE 19.1 Competitors and registered dance teachers of participating schools will have access to the dressing rooms area during the DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style Competitions. 19.2 Parents have no access to the dressing rooms or backstage unless they are registered as dressing rooms assistants by the school principal. 20. COSTUMES 20.1 Costumes for the DWC Ballroom Style and DWC Latin Style competitions must be age appropriate. 20.2 Different costumes may be worn for each dance, but this is not compulsory. 21. GRAND FINALS 21.1 The finalists will be scored on the combined mark as set out in 10.3 21.2 Performing order to be determined by a draw. 21.3 Competitors will be required to dance the Judges Choices as set out in section 10.1 and a dance of their choosing within the style. 22. INSURANCE 22.1 DWC Limited is not responsible for any injuries that may occur to any person including a participant, teacher or audience member whilst in the theatre, dressing rooms, back stage or on the stage, or anywhere else. 22.2 It is the dance school s responsibility to take out their own insurance(s) for their school to attend DWC Finals. 23. TRAVEL 23.1 DWC is not responsible for any travel and accommodation costs in relation to the DWC Finals. 23.2 DWC cannot assist in the organisation of any visa applications, it is the responsibility of the dance school/parent to arrange these if needed. 24. CONDITIONS OF PERFORMANCE DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style - Official Rules and Regulations 2018/2019 Page 7

24.1 Lighting effects will be at the discretion of DWC. 24.2 No props can be used during solo or couple dances at DWC Ballroom Style and DWC Latin Style Competition. 24.3 Props may be used for the formations, but these must be carried on by stage by the competitors (excluding minis who may have help from a dance teacher). 24.4 DWC will not be responsible for the safekeeping of any props at the DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style Competition. 24.5 DWC will not be responsible for any injuries/accidents to a competitor/teacher whilst transferring a prop on or off the stage and in or out of the backstage area. All props are used at the risk of the dancer and the teacher. 24.6 Props must be integral to the performance and the judging panel reserve the right to deduct points if the prop is deemed unsuitable by the judging panel. 24.7 No liquids or any other substances are allowed on stage at any time, this includes bubbles, water or other substances that may affect the stage. 24.8 No confetti or any item that requires the stage to be cleaned/swept may be used during a performance at DWC. 24.9 If the music stops during a performance due to a technical issue in the theatre the dancer will be allowed to dance again. Dancers cannot dance again if they forget their dance. 25. GENRE SPECIFIC RULES DWC Ballroom Style and DWC Latin Style will not be as strict as other Ballroom competitions. 25.1 For Example: there is no restriction on the amount/type of lifts in DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style. However, lifts must be performed with dexterity both on the way up and on the way down. 25.2 The character of the Ballroom Style or Latin Style dance must be clearly recognisable in the choreography. ATTACHMENT 2 MARKING SYSTEM Marking System for DWC Ballroom Style and Latin Style Ballroom Competition (100 marks) Choreography (25 marks): should include some of the following elements: A degree of difficulty and complexity, which will be taken into consideration. Choreography must be age appropriate and suit the dancers ability. Jumps, turns and kicks may not dominate. The choreography should highlight the dancers ability to vary the dynamic quality within the movement. The choreography should demonstrate notable characteristics and stylistic differences of the various genres. Technique (25 marks): should include the following elements: the same technical ballroom qualities should be evident and assessed. Lifts must be performed with dexterity both on the way up and on the way down. If dancing with a partner normal hold and body contact should define the ballroom style. A good frame must be maintained throughout. Posture, balance, control, straight knees and ankle/insteps, pointed toes Flexible footwork in both basic steps and technical elements such as: kicks and jumps must be precise and well executed. Arm and leg movements should be presented with extensions showing elegant long lines, whether straight or curved. spatial awareness and floor management must be considered. Musicality (25 marks): Rhythmical interpretation should demonstrate a sense of musicality within the dance. Variation in rhythm that shows use of dynamic qualities and timing also accentuates musicality. Artistry (25 marks) refers to The interpretation and concept of the piece. The overall impression should highlight the dancers ability to perform the routine with ease, irrespective of fast explosive and elastic movements. A strong sense of characterisation must be apparent, particularly in the Latin Show dance. DWC has the authority to award a space at the finals to a qualifier participant if they feel that the dancer would benefit from attending the finals.
