Good Luck to everyone involved. Land Training Many of you will be aware that we run a land training session on a Tuesday evening, over the past year the number of people attending the session has dropped significantly and we have now made the difficult decision to stop the sessions with immediate effect. This was not an easy decision to make, but the sessions were no longer financially viable for us to run. But do not fear, this is not the end of the road for our fitness training! As you read this we are working on an exciting new fitness session that we hope will be more appealing and better suited to our swimmers, we hope it will be fun as well as focussing on the specific training needs of our swimmers. Keep an eye on your emails and our Facebook page (Melksham Swordfish ASC) for an announcement in the near future. Committee Vacancies
As many of you know, our club is run by a group of volunteers, who give their time to help the club out. From time to time, some roles become vacant, therefore we need to recruit some more volunteers to help with the overall day to day running of the club. Below are a list of vacancies which are up for grabs. If any of these interest you, or you have any questions, please email Claire Balecke on clairebalecke@gmail.com. No prior experience of the role is needed, full training and a gradual handover will be provided. Competition secretary: After liaising with the head coach to determine what competitions the club are targeting for the season, you are responsible for retrieving the details of the competitions from the organizers website (other clubs, wilts swimming...) & distributing this along with entry forms to MASC members with a time frame to return entry forms. Once entries are returned, you are responsible for entering entries into the competition host s software & returning to them and arranging other details such as payment and judges, depending on the meet. MASC generally enter around 4-5 open meets per year, the county champs in January/February and occasionally the regional champs in May and the club champs in the summer, therefore this role is not year round and only demands your time around the time of the competitions. You need to be well organized & have some computer skills. Secretary: this role is very much admin based, for example forwarding incoming emails/general enquiries to other committee members to deal with and booking rooms for the committee meetings which are held. When it comes to the committee meeting you are required to prepare meeting agendas and circulate to the committee members, take the minutes, type them and circulate to committee. Dropbox is a major information hub so you are required to upload the agenda and minutes from the meetings to the site. Each year the club holds an AGM so you are required to organise this. The ASA also needs notifying of any changes to the committee members. This role requires you to be well organised and be able to send out information in a timely manner. Vice Treasurer: The Vice Treasurer role involves checking the bank statements against the door registers to ensure everyone who has swam has paid the correct amount. Emails are then required to be sent to any swimmer who has either not paid or paid the wrong amount. Also required to email any swimmer who has not swam during the month to check if they still wish to be members of the club. This role usually takes approximately 3 hours per month spread across the month. Presentation Night On Friday 5 th October MASC held their annual celebration night. This is an event which celebrates the success of the club over the year, and also gives a chance to present medal and trophies from July s Club Championships. As well as this, special awards and announcements are given out such as club captains and the recognition of the behind the scenes members who help run the club, as well as the coaching staff.
A special mention to Dave Pegg who won the Phil Threlfall Award. This awards is given to an individual who has worked hard and contributed to the club over the last 12 monthswell-deserved Dave! Well done to all the medal winners and we hope everyone had a fantastic night! Thanks to everyone who organised the event, and set the hall up on the day.
Parents Help At the end of each session all of the equipment needs putting away, and the lane ropes need to be reeled back in. The coaches are busy so any additional help from the parents would be greatly appreciated as it gets the job done quicker. Thank You. Summer Carnival This year, we made an apt choice in going Under the Sea, as the heavens opened typically, just in time for the carnival procession! Luckily, everyone was already aboard the float, so it was only the walking adults that got wet! (& dried out by the time we finished). There were plenty of fish swinging between our Coaches, Teachers, Officials, Committee Members, other Parents & swimmers dressed as a multitude of mermaids & sea creatures or donning wet suits to fit in with the theme. Everyone enjoyed the atmosphere, represented the Club admirably and performed brilliantly for the crowds; duly rewarded with waving and applause all the way around the circuit. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen: Martin our driver, Andy our D.J, Debbie, Vicky, Kerry, Matt & Sarah for your artistic & practical decorating skills. We hope that you all enjoyed taking part. For more photos, go to https://www.melkshamcarnival.co.uk/
