T H E T A R G E T THE OFFICAL PUBLICATION OF TRIANGLE SPORTSMEN'S CLUB P.O. BOX 768, BLUEFIELD, VIRGINIA 24605 Website: www.triangleonline.org President, Darell Rolen Vice President, Steve Hamm February 2019 Secretary, Bill Rutherford Treasurer, Lary Ellis From the Firing Line Darell Rolen, President There is a lot of things happening at TSC in 2019. Due to the increase of nonmembers entering club property, we will be conducting random membership card checks. Any time you are on TSC property, members are required to have their membership card with them. If a member brings a guest, the member must stay with their guest while on club property. If a person does not have a membership card, they will be asked to leave TSC immediately or face charges of trespassing. Trespassing in the state of Virginia carries a fine of $2500.00 and a year in jail. Remember that the main gate is to be locked when you enter and locked when you leave. Please do not leave the gate open. Over past couple of months there has been 3 dead deer and one dead turkey found on TSC grounds. TSC is a game preserve and NO HUNTING is permitted at any time. Anyone found to be hunting on club property will face charges and permanent loss of membership. We depend on every member to enforce the rules. Please report any activity that breaks the General Rules of the club. Safety is the number one concern of every member. The 2019 Match Schedule has been set and will be published in this newsletter. Come out and have some fun with your friends and make new ones. We have some new targets that will make matches more interesting. Once again there will be an Inter Club Match between TSC and TGC in the fall of 2019. At the March meeting, I will be setting up a nominating committee for the 2019-2020 officers and directors. Please consider running for office. We need members to step up to continue the work of keeping TSC moving forward. With the 2019 Match Season set to start in April, there will be something for everyone to come out and enjoy. Please remember to use safety glasses and ear protection when you are on the firing line. The annual club clean up will be April 6 th Bad weather clean up will be April 27 th. There will be a flag retirement ceremony at the cleanup weekend. If anyone has a U.S. Flag that needs to be retired, bring it to clean up and it will be retired with honor and dignity. REMEMBER SHOOT MORE AND SHOOT MORE OFTEN!!

Mike Cole Director The new 2019 Match Schedule is out. This year there will be two steel matches and two night matches also there will be a bolt action match, a garand match along with a magnum match and a rim fire match. 2019 Historic Rifle Matches By: Terry Owen When I moved here many years ago, the Triangle had a pretty strong NRA Highpower Program. Back in those days Highpower was my thing as far as competition shooting went. Over the years the program faded away. We have a lot of other great matches now that I also love to shoot - 3-Gun, IDPA, IPSC and the like. And these other disciplines easily filled the gap. But this year I want to try an experiment. We plan to run two matches using the NRA Highpower format. In the spring we'll have Historic Bolt Action/Bolt Action Match and in the fall a Garand/.30 Caliber Semi auto match. The match descriptions are below and probably need to be refined a little bit but you'll get the general idea. Historic Bolt Action/Bolt Action Match Any "as issued" iron sight bolt action military rifle: 1903, Mauser, Enfield, Mosin Nagant, 1917, Arasaka, French MAS, etc. may be used in the Historic Class. Open Class can be any bolt action with any sight. Garand/.30 Cal Semi Auto Match Any M1 Garand with iron sights may be used in the Garand Class. Open Class may be any.30 cal semi auto with any sight. If we get enough people, we may add an M1A class. And I'd like to include AR's so no one is left out. Match Description - Both matches will be run very similar to an NRA High Power Match. We should be able to get everyone through in 2-3 relays. There will be 50 shots for score, fired from standing, sitting/kneeling and prone from the 100 yard line as follows: 10 rounds slow fire (10 min) standing at a 200 yard target 10 rounds rapid fire (1 min) sitting/kneeling at a 200 yard target 10 rounds rapid fire (1 min) prone at a 300 yard target 20 rounds slow fire (20 min) prone at a 600 yard target I know a lot of us have these beautiful old rifles setting around that haven't seen sunlight in a long time. Let's get them out and show them off to each other. I want everyone to be able to come out and have a good time so if you don't have a historic rifle, any modern rifle can be shot in the Open Class. And since Darell asked me to write something for the newsletter, I'm going to throw in a few more items. I'm a Glock guy (forgive me 1911 guys) and I recently started shooting indoor Glock Matches in Beckley at Gunsmoke Indoor Range. It's a very nice facility and a fun way to keep competing through the winter. https://www.facebook.com/beckleygunsmoke/ Also, many of you are probably already familiar with the Virginia Citizens Defense League. They are a very pro active pro gun organization at the state level. It's only $25 for an annual membership. If you don't feel like joining you can still get on their email list for free. The emails are very informative on current gun bills and gun laws within Virginia. They also include some pretty interesting articles. https://vcdl.org/ If you have any questions please feel free to email me, terry@advantagetimberland.com Looking forward to seeing everyone this spring.
