We thank those of you that played Summer session, and welcome those of you that are new to the APA this fall! We continue to make improvements to the Mid Michigan APA so be sure to check the website, flyers and score sheet notes for updates. We realize the area has many hobbies/leagues to choose from so we thank you all for choosing to play in the Mid Michigan APA League. The newsletter is new and will be sent out each month to team captains to share with team mates. For those that want to have their own copy, you ll find one on the league website at www.midmichigan.apaleagues.com under the newsletter tab. We value your membership and feedback so please let us know how we re doing. Greg & Rita Defensive Shot Anxiety Events/Happenings Qualify for NSC Player Spotlight Banquet Dates Host Location Spotlight National Discounts Local Discounts Mid Michigan Birthdays Special Dedication 1 1 2 3 3 3 4 5 6 7 Defensive shot anxiety For the average league player, knowing what a defensive show is and when to mark it can be frustrating. It s for this reason that we often talk about defensive shots and try to inform players of an easy way to determine if a shot is in fact a defensive shot. The best way to determine this is by asking yourself one question.was the shot an offensive shot? Offense means being aggressive or trying to actually pocket a ball. If you believe the shot wasn t offense then it was defense. There are no other options its either offense or defense. Some good examples of this are listed below: A player doesn't have a good shot and doesn't want to break out balls for their opponent so instead of trying to hit a ball, they opt to pick up the cue ball and give their opponent ball in hand. Because the shooter did not try to pocket a ball, this is considered a defensive shot. A player cannot make any of their object balls so hits the cue ball just hard enough to get a good hit and nothing goes in. Because this shooter didn't seem to try to pocket a ball, this is also a defensive shot. In this same example, had the shooter hit super hard hoping to slop a ball in, it would not have been a defensive shot. No teams will agree on every defensive shot so mark what you think. It s the one sure way to counteract sandbagging! Events/Happenings Congratulations to our Summer Session contest, Auburn Hotel Wendy! Wendys summer team has won a private team lesson with world champion pool professionals, Johnny Archer & Nick Varner. Due to the US Open, Mosconi Cup and other international events Johnny and Nick are attending, they have had to delay their trip here until end of November or December. They are looking forward to meeting the winners and giving them some private lessons to help improve their games. Johnny & Nick are also looking forward to sitting down with the entire membership that played the summer session so they can tell stories, answer questions, take pictures, give autographs and maybe even perform a show for everyone!! When they finalize their dates, we will alert everyone via mail and on the website and of course on our facebook page.

NATIONAL SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS April 25 28, 2012 Singles qualifiers will be run starting October 29th and run thru the end of the qualifying time frame of November 30th. We will have most boards tiered as it would be in Vegas at the National Singles Championship but, we may also try an open board or two if there is enough interest in the singles qualifiers. All boards must be filled with 8 people in order to run them so, make sure you grab a team mate or two and get to the qualifier of your choice. If anyone is interested in having a qualifier at certain locations, please contact us. Anyone winning a local board will advance to the Regional level to compete for the National spot & the chance to win $15,000 in cash & prizes in 8 ball or $10,000 in cash & prizes in 9 ball! Player Spotlight of the Month Michelle Williams APA Teams: Michelle & Hand in Ball Michelle was chosen to be the spotlight player of the month because of her desire to become a better player. Michelle was moved from a 4 to a 5 and after a few difficult weeks as a 5, went back to a 4. Most people in league play would be happy to have gone down but not Michelle. Michelle is determined to become a 5 and great 5!! This is what the league is about! Having fun playing pool with friend and improving your game. If you look at league as fun and a way to get better, the numbers wont matter as much. Don't let the handicaps stop you from trying to be your best. It isn t often in the APA office that we get to hear people get upset over going down so to Michelle.THANK YOU for being such a great competitor and wanting to become the best you can be in the APA! With Michelle s winning attitude and natural talent, we know that her goal of being a top 5 is within her grasp. Watch out 5s.Michelle Williams is coming after you! If you have a player you want to spotlight, send in their name with a short letter telling us why they should be listed in the player spotlight of the month. It doesn t have to be all pool players that perform good deeds can also be listed as the player spotlight of the month. Have a great month everyone!! The awards presentation takes place at 7pm. Don t miss the DJ, free entry cash payout tournaments and more!! HOST LOCATION SPOTLIGHT Our first Host Location Spotlight goes to none other than My Bar located in Bay City, Michigan. We often hear that gets all of the benefits and honors just because they have the most tables. While it is indeed rare to find a location with 4 tables, this isn't the only reason earns so many honors. not only has tables, it has an atmosphere that many members like to be a part of. Its just a fun bar & a great hangout spot for many of the leagues members. In addition to these things, also hosts a large number of teams. During the Summer months, was host location for a whopping 8 teams. In the current Fall session, they are host location to 10 teams throughout the week and an additional 6 on Wednesday nights for the in house Masters division. Congrats and owner Carol Hewitt for being this months host location of choice! There is a gift card coming your way for earning the honor! Thank you for being a part of the Mid Michigan APA! We appreciate all of our Host locations and each month we will recognize one of them as our spotlight location of the month! Who s your choice for next months Spotlight?

A man, a devoted husband, a loving father & grandfather, a true friend & an amazing entertainer.. This is George Middleditch. How does one say goodbye to someone that meant so much to so many? How does one go on without feeling a deep sorrow knowing someone so full of life is no longer with us? Our hearts will ache a little more, we ll laugh a little less and we ll recall each memory we have more fondly than ever. They are not dead, who leave us this great heritage of remembering joy. They still live in our hearts, in the happiness we knew, in the dreams we shared. They still breathe, in the lingering fragrance, windblown, from their favourite flowers. They still smile in the moonlight s silver, and laugh in the sunlight s sparking gold. They still speak in the echoes of the words we ve heard them say again and again. They still move, in the rhythm of waving grasses, in the dance of the tossing branches. They are not dead; their memory is warm in our hearts, comfort in our sorrow. They are not apart from us, but part of us, for love is eternal, And those we love shall be with us throughout all eternity. Anonymous
