Recital Information PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND KEEP FOR FUTURE REFERENCE Dear Parents: We are well underway in planning for this year s show. This is a wonderful experience for the dancers as it allows them to demonstrate to their family and friends just how much they have learned in class during the past season. The following information is critical to ensure a smooth-running and professional program that we may all enjoy. DRESS REHEARSAL: Mandatory attendance on Friday, June 1, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. WHERE: The Performing Arts Center at Watchung Hills High School, 108 Stirling Rd., Warren, NJ For Dress Rehearsal - please arrive at The Performing Arts Center at WHRHS at 4:45 p.m. dressed in first costume with full stage makeup (red lipstick, blush, eye makeup, etc.). Parents are required to stay with their child in the auditorium during the dress rehearsal. Students should sit with their class and wait for their number to be called up on stage. We will be running the dress rehearsal in the order of the show (see attached). Students may leave as soon as all of their dances are complete. Dress Rehearsal is mandatory for all students. This time is used to block the stage, coordinate the curtains, lights, music, and acquaint the children with a new dance space. Should you have any out-of-the-ordinary situations that may impact your attendance, please contact Miss Monica immediately. RECITAL: WHERE: Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. The Performing Arts Center at Watchung Hills High School, 108 Stirling Rd., Warren, NJ The recital begins at 2:00 p.m. Students should arrive at 1:15 p.m., dressed in their first costume, in full stage makeup and hair done, and report directly to the dressing rooms. All costumes, accessories, dance shoes, tights, etc. should be clearly labeled with student s name. Please provide your child with water and a snack. Students will not be able to leave the dressing room until the show is over. PICK-UP PROCEDURE: Immediately following the video montage, the entire cast of students will appear on stage. After a brief award presentation, the curtain will close and the children will be escorted back to the dressing area by class. We will have two separate entrances for parents to sign-out their child alphabetically by last name (A-L and M-Z). We ask that the same parent that signed them in return to the dressing area to pick up their child to cut down on confusion. Following these procedures will ensure the safety of our students. PLEASE NOTE: -No friends, guests or parents will be permitted in the dressing room or in the hallway during the show. -No SSDS students will be allowed to sit in the auditorium during the show they must remain with class. -No baby strollers will be allowed in the aisles per Warren fire department regulations. -No food or drink is permitted in the auditorium at any time, only in the lobby areas. -No flash photography or video cameras allowed in auditorium during the show for the safety of the dancers. PICTURES AND VIDEO BY PARENTS: During the dress rehearsal ONLY while the house lights are on, parents may videotape and/or take pictures. Please understand that flash photography can be very disorienting and dangerous to your child when the theatre house lights are off as well as distracting to the audience. No one will be permitted to take video or photos during the recital on Saturday. COSTUMES: All outstanding balances, including unpaid tuitions, must be paid in full before costumes are sent home. Each costume will be labeled on the front of the bag with specific instructions as to specific tights, shoes and hair required for each class. They will be distributed in early Spring and should be kept in a clean/safe place and not worn prior to Picture Day. All costumes were tried-on by your child in class to ensure a proper fit, however, any alterations that may be necessary will be the responsibility of the parents. HAIR: The following ballet classes will be wearing their hair in a low bun, no bangs: Monday Blue Kangaroo Class #1, Monday Class #4, Wednesday Class #13, Thursday Class #18 and Saturday Class #26. All other students must have clean hair parted over the dancer s left eye and in a low pony tail. NO BANGS!! I realize there are a lot of rules, but our main concern is our students safety and presenting them in the most professional environment possible. We do not take this responsibility lightly and expect everyone to cooperate with our regulations so that your children, the stars of the show, will have an enjoyable and memorable performance. * * * * * * WHAT S HAPPENING THE WEEK AFTER THE RECITAL? Trial Classes - June 4 through June 9 -- we invite our students to come and sample classes in Acro, Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, and Tap. We encourage students eager to continue their dance education to take this time to try different styles of dance that are offered. You may participate in any age appropriate class.
