COSTUMES COSTUME WEEK MONDAY, MAY 7 TH - THURSDAY, MAY 10, 2018 Please have your child bring to class their costume, shoes, tights and have their hair in a bun or low ponytail. Please have all alterations (if needed) to their costume completed for this week. We will be taking pictures now so please have your dancer photo ready. And you are invited to take photos the last 10 minutes of the class. ALTERATIONS: Minor alterations may be needed (straps sewn, pants hemmed, etc.). If you need any assistance in doing alterations, please contact the front desk. DISTRIBUTION: Costumes will be distributed as they are received. Your child s costume balance must be paid in full and the TUITION BALANCE PAID UP TO DATE to take home his/her costume. Even if we order early our costumes may still come in right before the recital. This is common, but every child will have a costume when they dance onstage. CARE: All straps must be securely fastened with a needle and thread. Safety pins open very easily when you are dancing and THAT HURTS! All detachable skirts must be attached to the bodice with snaps or Velcro. ALL COSTUMES, ACCESSORIES, SHOES, TIGHTS, ETC. MUST BE CLEARLY LABELED WITH YOUR CHILD S NAME! Put all your things TOGETHER in a plastic container, suitcase, tote bag, laundry basket even a paper bag LABELED! TIGHTS AND SHOES: NO UNDERPANTS UNDER TIGHTS, LEOTARDS OR COSTUMES! They are not needed and they show. The appropriate color tights must be worn onstage. An Appropriate Tights, Shoe and Hair list will be passed out with the costume. To insure the proper color of tights we will require all dancers to have the same brand. Students may also purchase a flesh colored leotard, with clear straps, to wear under their costume; for modesty. HAIR: All hair must be neatly pulled off the face and SECURED to the head. Either a bun or ponytail will be appropriate. Your child s hair style will also be on the list passed out with their costume. No Bangs or Corn Rolls. All headpieces must have an elastic to go under the chin (if able) and plenty of bobby pins to secure to the head. Make sure to X them on each side of the head. No large bobby pins. There is nothing more distracting, to the student and the audience, than a head piece falling off during a routine.
MAKEUP: Stage makeup MUST be worn for Dress Rehearsal and Recital. Eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner, blush and red lipstick are required for all students. Older students may use false eyelashes. Makeup must be applied with a heavy hand as stage lights drowns out the colors, making the face appear pale. NO JEWELRY MAY BE WORN, except for small post earrings. TICKETS All seating at the recital will be reserved. Tickets go ON SALE Saturday, May 12 th from 10:00 11:30am. Tickets are $ 7.00 and are CASH ONLY. **NOTE: TICKETS SOLD AT THE DOOR THE DAY OF THE RECITAL WILL BE $10.00. ** NO TICKET REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES. DURING THE RECITAL, YOUR CHILD WILL REMAIN BACKSTAGE WITH VOLUNTEERS.
FINALE THE FINALE WILL BE REHEARSED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE NIGHT. All dancers will wear the costume of their last routine performed in the Recital first. After Finale rehearsal is done, we will take a short break so dancers can change into their costume of their first routine in the Recital. You are free to leave once your child has rehearsed all their routines. DRESS REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE IS LIMITED TO ONE PARENT AND THE DANCER(S) ONLY. NO CHILDREN PLEASE. PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO WILL BE ALLOWED AT DRESS REHEARSAL ONLY. YOU CANNOT TAKE PICTURES OR VIDEO AT THE RECITAL, SO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY AT THE DRESS REHEARSAL. RECITAL All students must be at the Hawkins Theater ONE HALF HOUR prior to show time. One parent to drop off your child. Enter through the stage door (the back of the building on the northwest side) and check in at the table once inside. You will receive your wristband for after the Recital to pick up your child from the dressing rooms. You will need this wristband to get to the dressing rooms. THIS IS A SECURITY PRECAUTION FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILD. Once checked in, you can proceed to your child s dressing room. Please exit the dressing room once your child is checked in. We DO NOT permit any parents, siblings or friends backstage or in the dressing rooms during the recital or at intermission. There is a very qualified staff in attendance to ensure the safety of your child. Students are not permitted in the theater or lobby the day of the Recital. No food or drink can be brought to your child during intermission or during the recital. THIS IS STRICTLY ENFORCED. In respect for the privacy of your daughter s classmates, we ask that fathers, brothers and boyfriends DO NOT enter the girls dressing room area.
THEATRE Theatre doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain. All attendees must have a ticket. No ticket, no seat. We suggest babies do not attend, they could be a distraction for the rest of the audience as well as the performers. The orchestra section of the theater is raked, so all the seats provide an unobstructed view of the stage. But bring a small pillow for the shorter members of your party so they can see the show even better. PLEASE no balloons in the audience. They obstruct the view of the people behind you. Once the show has begun, the ushers will only allow attendees to enter and exit the Theatre between the routines during the performance. Please make sure you and your guests arrive early. Dance Hall Studios is proud of its professionalism. There should be no excessive yelling by the audience. Enthusiastic applause is appreciated; however proper audience etiquette is expected of all guests. NO USE OF CAMERA CELL PHONES, FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEO, OR PHOTO EQUIPMENT WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE THEATRE DURING THE RECITAL. THIS IS TO PROTECT THE PRIVACY OF YOUR CHILD S CLASSMATES. IF THE STAFF SEES ANYONE WITH SUCH EQUIPMENT, IT WILL BE TAKEN AND HELD BY SUCH STAFF MEMBER UNTIL THE RECITAL IS OVER. REASON: Cameras and fiash photography is dangerous to the performers and distracting to those around you. Videotaping is also distracting to the people around you. So, put down your recording device and live in the moment; you ll enjoy the show so much more! AFTER THE RECITAL One parent may go to the dressing room to pick up your child. This parent must be wearing the wristband that was given upon arrival before the recital. Students MUST be dismissed from the dressing room and MAY NOT be picked up any time during the performance. Figuring out you are missing something last minute could be the worst feeling ever! You will feel much better knowing you have a few days to run to the store rather than just a few hours. Make a recital day PLAN with your dancer. Everyone will feel much better after you talk through logistics and expectations. Talk with your dancer about when you will start getting ready, who will be helping with quick changes, when will they eat, and when and where you will meet them after the performance. You will rest assured knowing they know what to do and they will feel more prepared in handling the day without you. Be positive, have fun, and enjoy every second! Recital is only once a year and trust us, it goes FAST! Be proud of your dancer no matter what happens on stage. It takes a lot of guts to get on stage and your dancer wants no more than to do the best they can do. Don t be shy in telling them how you feel after their performance. Performing after all the preparation should feel amazing and as their parents, you get to share that feeling with them. They deserve that shining moment and so do you. Make sure you take a moment or two to look around and feel the joy with your dancer. We want nothing more than for you and your dancer to enjoy this moment because it is the BEST part of being a performer (and a proud parent too) and like we mentioned, it will go fast! Take the stress out of the week and you will be able to truly savor each precious moment.
