The Gym Dogs are coming off a 196.525-193.700 win over No. 20 Denver last week in Athens. It was the highest score of any team in the country on opening weekend and the Gym Dogs highest score in an opener since 2007. -Alabama History and Alabama are among the top programs in college gymnastics, combining for 15 NCAA titles. This marks the 128th all-time meeting between the two schools, with holding a 79-46- 2 advantage. In 41 dual meets against Alabama, the Gym Dogs are 31-10. Alabama has won five of the last six meetings, including the last four, and the Crimson Tide holds a 20-17-2 edge in Tuscaloosa. While kicked off its season last weekend, this marks the 2012 opener for Alabama. The Gym Dogs last opened their season against the Crimson Tide in 1985 in Tuscaloosa. also opened the 1977 and 1984 seasons with dual meets against Alabama. Last Time Out opened the 2012 campaign with a 196.525-193.700 win over No. 20 Denver last Friday at Stegeman Coliseum. The Gym Dogs posted scores of 49.125 or higher in the first three rotations on their way to the highest opening meet score since 2007. The Gym Dogs turned in three scores of 9.9 or higher and 14 scores of at least 9.8, compared to zero scores of 9.9 or higher and eight of at least 9.8 in last year's opener. Noel Couch, 's only all-arounder against the Pioneers, won her first career title with a 39.275. Couch has now competed in the all-around in 15 straight meets dating back to the start of the 2011 season. Against Denver, 's highest score in each rotation came from the anchor: a 9.925 from Kat Ding on vault, 9.975 by Ding on bars, 9.875 by Shayla Worley on beam, and a 9.875 by Noel Couch on floor. More Titles For Ding Kat Ding was the top scorer on vault and bars against Denver with a 9.925 and 9.975, respectively. The 2011 NCAA uneven bars champion has placed first on the event in seven of the last eight meets going back to the 2011 season. Incidentally, the streak started with a 9.95 against fifth-ranked Alabama. During the run, Ding has posted a 9.9 or higher each time, including her second career 9.975 last Friday against Denver. Gym Dogs Make Impact In Debuts Three gymnasts made their debuts last week against Denver. Sophomore Kaylan Earls and freshmen Chelsea Davis and Sarah Persinger performed a combined eight routines, with seven of those counting towards the team score. Davis was in the leadoff spot on vault and bars, earning a pair of 9.8s, whlie Persinger was in the vault, beam and floor lineup. Earls, who turned in a 9.85 on floor and 9.825 on beam, ruptured her Achilles nine days prior to the start of the 2011 season and missed her freshman campaign.
