The National TDC pits the top qualifiers from each state s Truck Driving Championships against each other in pursuit of the title of Grand Champion. The NTDC and affiliated state TDCs are considered the one of the industry s largest and most effective safety programs. 2011 Iowa Truck Driving Championships Miscellaneous Dress Code: The only dress code that is required is that the driver dress properly and professionally. Company uniforms are not required but are highly encouraged. Drivers are judged on a number of items and dress is one of those items. Remember this event is highly visible and very representative of the industry. Our objective is to promote the professionalism that exists in the industry. Drivers are true professionals and we encourage them to make an effort to dress that way. Equipment: All equipment is provided. Every effort is made to provide new equipment and to provide everyone a fair opportunity during their driving skills competition. Courses: As in the past all the driving will be done on one day, on two different courses. The chairman appoints two committee members to draw up four courses and submit those courses for review. The chairman then makes the final decision as to the final course layout one day prior to the event. If a company would like to practice the driving skills portion of the testing, sample course diagrams are available from the IMTA. Scoring: Scores are final and no test scores are posted. Safety directors receive the results of their specific drivers approximately 10 days following the Truck Driving Championships. No scores are given out at the event. All the scoring is done through a computerized program. Areas of Testing: *Written Exam (100 points) *Driving Skills Test (300 points) *Pre-Trip Inspection (100 points) *Personal Interviews (100 points) Weather: The championships are held rain or shine. The weather is a factor that a professional truck driver has to deal with on a daily basis. The driving portion of the championships may be delayed or postponed if the safety of the volunteers, spectators, or drivers is jeopardized because of weather. The championships committee retains the right to change the schedule if weather problems arise. Recruiting: Recruiting of drivers is strictly prohibited, any company representative that engages in recruiting will be asked to leave and if he/she has a driver/team competing, they will be automatically disqualified. Conduct: Professional conduct is required and any competing driver that displays inappropriate conduct will be asked to leave the competition and future participation will be considered by the rules committee. Please contact the Iowa Motor Truck Association if special accommodations are needed. (515) 244-5193.
