USER INSTRUCTIONS TED Training Emergency Dummy The TED Training Emergency Dummy is a very versatile training aid. TED is designed and manufactured by RESQ Training Internatinal. TED can be used fr a variety f applicatins and scenaris including: Search and rescue Vertical Rescue / rescue frm heights Rad Crash Rescue TED has several unique built in features that makes him different frm ther training dummies. Features include: Built in frnt D ring attachment fr simulatin f Sit harness suspensin. Built in rear D ring fr simulatin f Fall Arrest harness suspensin. Has a mulded life like head which allws fr fitting f cervical cllar and xygen resuscitatin equipment. Has detachable limbs which prvide a mre realistic mvement range, scenaris with amputatins and make it easy t cnduct repairs r replacement f parts. Has replaceable ftwear which minimises wear and tear when dragging rescues are cnducted. COMPONENT PARTS TED is available in ready t assemble kit frm. CONSTRUCTION DESIGN: There are 2 cnnectin pints n each arm. There are 3 cnnectin pints fr each leg jint, bth at the hips and the knees. There are 2 different types f attachment pints a) Lad bearing which uses a duble ring buckle used at the frnt f the hip and n the inside leg f the knees. b) NON Lad bearing which uses a simple single attached ring and threaded thrugh a secnd lse ring ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE The recmmended sequence fr assembly f TED is as fllws. 1. Lay the trs n the flr face up. 2. Attach the 2 arms t the trs attachment pints as shwn in (Fig A) 3. Attach the 2 upper legs. Ensure that the strap with the duble ring buckle is facing up (tward the frnt f the bdy) Attach at the hip jint by threading the strap frm the trs thrugh 2 rings and then thread back thrugh 1 ring as shwn in (Fig B) 4. Tie the 3 rings tgether at the grin as shwn in (Fig C) 5. Attach the lwer leg t the upper leg. Ensure that the duble ring buckle n the lwer leg is aligned with the inside leg strap f the upper leg. Attach the inside leg straps in the same way as step 3 abve. 6. There shuld nw be 6 remaining cnnectins t be attached. There is 1 at each side f buttcks and 2 n each utside f the knees. All f these cnnectins are nn-lad bearing and will be attached using the same methd. Yu will need the extra rings prvided in the kit. 7. Fill TED with suitable filling material (See filling instructins) 8. Dress TED in his favurite veralls r PPE 9. Attach the bts using the 3 straps prvided n each bt FILLING INSTRUCTIONS TED is designed t fill with any suitable filling material f yur chice depending n the purpse and weight yu need t cnduct yur training applicatin. Filling density may be mixed, fr example use medium weight in the bdy and lighter materials in the arms and legs, it is up t yu. IMPORTANT D nt fill with sharp stnes r similar material as this may cause damage t the fabric used fr TEDs uter cvering. Smth pebbles are OK t use. D nt fill with material that will verlad with excessive weight. MAXIMUM recmmended ttal weight when filled shuld nt exceed 95kg! Always use liner bags t fill each individual limb. Fr use in flating applicatins it is recmmended t use suitable lightweight material with duble liner bag.
RECOMMENDED FILLER MATERIAL- HEAVY DUTY USE (70 90 KG) Filling materials fr a heavy duty applicatin can include the fllwing. River pebbles. / gravel / beads / marbles Tumbled vlcanic rck / scria. ( n sharp edges) Dry sand Crushed shell grit ( n sharp edges) MEDIUM DUTY USE (50 70 KG) Filling materials suitable fr medium duty applicatins include the fllwing. Shredded rubber granules Sawdust Wd shavings Wheat / rice / dried peas r beans LIGHT DUTY USE (20 50 KG) Filling fr light duty use may include the fllwing suitable materials. Ply styrene beads Shredded paper / cardbard Ply urethane fam Rags Bubble wrap Shredded clsed cell fam FILLING PROCEDURE Each limb will need t be filled individually with the filling f yur chice r cmbinatin f chice. It is recmmended t use heavy duty rubbish bags r similar fr the lining bags. Use the crrect size bags fr each applicatin. Fr example use a large size fr the trs, a medium fr the legs and a small fr the upper and lwer sectin f the arms. 1. Unzip the required limb and check that n sharp bjects are cntained inside. (Fig 1) 2. Open a liner bag and partially fill with filler material. (Fig 2) 3. Place the liner bag int the pen limb. 4. Muld the filler s that it is spread evenly thrughut the limb sectin. 5. Tp up liner with additinal filler until the limb is at capacity. (Fig 3) 6. Rll the liner bag tightly and tuck int the side f the limb. (Fig 4)
7. Ensure there is nthing prtruding frm zipper area. 8. Carefully fasten the zipper taking care nt t rip the liner bag (Fig 5) 9. Repeat the prcess until all sectins f the dummy have been filled. 10. Weigh the ttal mass t ensure that the MAX recmmended weight (95Kg) is nt exceeded. SUSPENDED RESCUE APPLICATIONS TED is suitable t be suspended by the frnt r rear D ring in rder t create heights rescue scenaris. A small flap is prvided in the PPE t allw access t the rear D ring if required. The attachment D rings are rated fr 100 Kg nly and are nt suitable fr shck lading. Therefre DO NOT drp TED ver an edge t suspend, rather carefully lwer r raise int the desired psitin t avid damage. If cutaway rescue practice is required as in mid-pitch rpe rescue, always minimise the drp distance. It is recmmended that practices d nt have a drp f mre than 20cm in this applicatin and where pssible ttally avid all drps. WATER RESCUE APPLICATION TED is suitable t be used in man ver bard r water pick up rescue scenaris if prepared and maintained crrectly. 1. Lightweight nn-absrbent material shuld be used fr filling. (Ie clsed cell fam) 2. Duble liner bags shuld be used in each sectin. 3. After use maintenance is required, remve all filling, wash in clean fresh water, dry thrughly in a well-ventilated area befre repacking with dry filler. 4. D nt stw away when wet. 5.
