! PRE-SEASON TRAINING PACKET 2018 PRE-SEASON TRAINING

GENERAL INFORMATION /PURPOSE The TEAM CAMP is designed to prepare players for the upcoming season by providing consistent and uniform training in structured and organized workout sessions. The instruction will focus on the areas of hitting and pitching but there will also be a defensive option for infielders and catchers *(see page 8). Four weeks is not a lot of time to prepare players for their season. Faced with the indoor space and weather constraints that early March presents, combined with the need to make squad reductions, practice team situations, and prepare for scrimmages; a coach sometimes does not have the opportunity to work on individual skills. We think the TEAM CAMP concept can help resolve the problem. It provides the technical instruction necessary for players to develop a sound understanding of the fundamental skills that pertain to hitting and pitching. The accompanying outlines describe the format that will be followed over the eight week program. They can be modified or adjusted in any way to suit a team s specific personnel needs. INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF HITTING Chip Benway Greg Butler Dom Cirilli Marc Houser Mike Mobbs Mike Sheppard Carmen Spina Nick Urbanovich Paul Urbanovich Joe Wladyka PITCHING Jack Baker TJ Hunt Brian Makely Jim Wladyka There will be a minimum of 3 coaches present at each session two hitting and one pitching. Additional coaches will be added depending on the number of participants. A brief bio on each instructor is on the accompanying page. *Please note that players who attend the clinic as pitchers will be scheduled for one rotation through the hitting area. All position players will follow the specific objectives for the week.

LOCATION Wladyka Baseball Indoor Training Facility which is located at 190 Fairview Ave., Rutherford, NJ. FACILITY It is an open, fully turfed facility whose dimensions are 50 x 80 with 25 ceiling height. It includes 3 hitting tunnels, 3 pitching machines, 3 indoor pitching mounds, and a drill area. TIME PERIODS Each team will have 8 one hour and forty five minute sessions totaling 14 hours of instruction. Time slots are available upon request on a first come, first serve basis. A $95.00 deposit is due in order to reserve a spot. The remainder can be paid in January. ** THERE WILL BE VIDEO ANALYSIS/REVIEW OF EVERY PLAYER AT EACH CAMP**

FOR HITTERS The following is a brief outline of the curriculum that has been designed to maximize the 8-week period leading up to the baseball season. Each week there will be a hitting objective which will be implemented thru a series of tee/ soft toss drills as well as during emphasis rounds in the batting cages. Our approach is a progressive one in which each session builds upon the previous. This spiral approach to learning will allow the hitter to develop an overall hitting approach by the 8 th week of training. Each week as the hitters are put through a series of stations, they will be given specific Homework Drills to incorporate into their personal training in order to aid a specific area of weakness. In addition to machine hitting, live hitting will be included with coach-pitched BP and modifications such as front toss/offset hitting, etc. Week 1 Lower Body Depth and distance in the box Stride length Knee positioning Loading Timing of the stride Rear knee drive Hip position Balanced finish Week 2 Upper Body Grip Bat angle Hands/ Elbows Position Load launch position of the hands A-C contact hand path Extension at contact Finish Week 3 Sequencing the entire hitting process Review weeks 1-2 Emphasis on stride and swing separation Timing of the load / trigger Rear knee drive initiating the swing Finish

Week 4 Head/ Eyes Vision / Tracking Pitch Recognition Review weeks 1-3 Emphasis on the position of the head while hitting flat eyes Picking up release point funnel of focus Pitch recognition Position of head and eyes during course of the swing Week 5 Zone hitting hitting diagonal Review weeks 1-4 Recognizing the 9 parts of the strike zone Identifying a hitter s strength/weakness in the strike zone Pitcher s vs Hitter s strike zone Week 6 Hitting the breaking ball Review weeks 1-5 Recognizing the breaking ball by spin release point 3 points of recognizing the breaking ball Objectives of the pitcher / hitter with the breaking ball Week 7 Count hitting / Video Analysis using ipad Technology Review weeks 1-6 Recognizing positive / negative pitch counts Identifying a pitchers pattern in certain counts strengths and weaknesses Developing an aggressive approach in all counts 2-Strike approach Filming of each hitter Week 8 Offensive concepts / Situational hitting Executing the hit and run Sacrifice bunting Situational hitting man on 2b 1 out vs. 2 outs man on 3b infield in / infield back HITTER'S VIDEO ANALYSIS WILL BE FILMED, REVIEWED AND CORRECTED IMMEDIATELY WITH NEW IPAD TECHNOLOGY

FOR PITCHERS Each week pitchers will be taught new drills and specific skills which will focus on the week s objective. Our approach is a progressive one in which each week builds upon the previous. In the 8 weeks we will try to convert high school throwers into high school pitchers. After each session the pitchers will be given written instructions on what to work on during the middle of the week which will include: throwing drills, arm exercises, a running program, and a lifting schedule. The pitch count will start at 20-25 pitches and then gradually increase as the sessions progress. Each bullpen will focus on that particular session s emphasis. Week 1 - INTRODUCE CORE4 DRILLS & WEIGHTED BALL HOLDS 5 step wind-up from the initial stance on the rubber to the pitchers finish Reverse breakdown of the delivery including: o release point drills o rocker drill with no release o rocker drill with release o front crossover balance drill o repeat balance drill Week 2 - STRETCH/ MECHANICS - CORE VELOCITY BELT o being able to see the runner from the stretch position o learning to hold runners and picking to counts o varying timing and looks to home plate o base runners tendencies on 1B and 2B o review mechanics/ flaws from week 1 Week 3 - THROW TO CATCHERS WITH VELO PRO throw a touch and feel from wind-up and stretch focusing on: o 2-seam and 4-seam fastballs o mechanics stressed in weeks 1 and 2 o focus on fastball command opposite arm side and down **FROM WEEKS 3 8 PITCHERS WILL BE THROWING TO CATCHERS** Week 4 - CHANGE-UP o how to throw a change-up, when to throw a change-up o variety of grips (it is a feel pitch) o understanding how a pitcher s arm already pronates o why the change-up is so effective
