Words that are struck through will be removed from the rule book. NOVICE DIVISION Eligibility restrictions for the Novice division has been increased to allow riders to earn up to $250 in a western performance discipline. GR-225.5 b) The rider has not won any champion titles or reserve champion titles at any show or cumulative year-end award in SHTX, ASHA, or Texas State 4-H finals; more than 5 points in any breed association (AQHA, APHA, AQHA VRH All Around, etc.); or $100 $250 in a national organization (NCHA, NRCHA, NRHA, RHAA, etc.) in any western performance discipline (western pleasure, working cow horse, reining, cutting, trail, etc.) The Level 1 Novice recognition (which was tested in the fall of 2018) will remain in place in 2019. Level 1 Novice is not a separate division of the Novice, but is designed to recognize improvement and advancement in the Novice division at large shows at the discretion of show management. Level 1 Novice follows the D system (commonly used in barrel racing), dividing the Novice all around results at the 50% mark, and will recognize the top 5 riders in the second half of the Novice. There are no Year End awards in Level 1 Novice since these riders will be eligible to compete for Novice and Constant Competitor SHTX Year End awards. CHANGES IN THE YOUTH; ADDING NOVICE YOUTH DIVISION Youth Division Eligibility and Restrictions: (Box-drive-box-drive) Exhibitors in the youth division must be aged 8 through 18 as of January 1 of the current year. The Youth Division is for individuals with more riding and showing experience who wish to learn more about showing in SHTX at a more advanced pace. The modified working cow horse pattern will be a box-drive-box-drive pattern. The cow horse pattern will not involve turns down the fence, circling or roping. There will be no jackpot in this division. (For specific rules for the working cow horse pattern refer to the Limited Non Pro Working Cow Horse class rules) a) A youth may not show in both the Youth, Novice Youth and Novice Divisions at the same show. b) Stallions are prohibited in this division.

Novice Youth Division Eligibility and Restrictions: (Box only) Exhibitors in the youth division must be aged 8 through 18 as of January 1 of the current year. The Novice Youth Division is reserved for individuals with limited or no riding and showing experience who wish to learn more about showing in SHTX at a beginner s pace. Eligibility for the Novice Youth division is as follows: a) The rider must meet all Non Pro eligibility requirements listed above. b) The rider has not won any combination of 2 champion or reserve champion titles at any show or cumulative year-end award in SHTX, ASHA, or Texas State 4-H finals; more than 10 points in any breed association (AQHA, APHA, AQHA VRH All Around, etc.); or $500 in a national organization (NCHA, NRCHA, NRHA, RHAA, etc.) in any western performance discipline (western pleasure, working cow horse, reining, cutting, trail, etc.) SHTX 12 & Under awards and titles do not count toward eligibility since 12 & Under was not a separate SHTX division. c) If a member loses Novice Youth eligibility through competition, he or she may finish that year as a Novice Youth rider. Thereafter, the member is eligible only for Youth, Junior Horse, Limited Non Pro, Non Pro or Open Divisions. d) Riders in this division will work a Novice/Novice Youth Working Cow Horse Pattern. The cow horse pattern is a shortened version of cow work that will not involve turns down the fence, circling or roping. The working cow horse pattern will be boxing only. (See Novice Working Cow Horse class rules for specifics on rules for this division.) There will be no jackpot in this division. e) A youth may not show in both the Youth, Novice Youth and/or Novice Divisions at the same show. f) Stallions are prohibited in this division. CHANGES IN THE COLLEGIATE PROGRAM The rulebook already allows for a separate collegiate show within regular competition (GR 301.10c) The following will explain that collegiate riders will compete within their own collegiate division. Collegiate riders wishing to compete in regular SHTX divisions may do so with a separate entry. GR-301.10 Collegiate Competitions d) Collegiate riders will enter classes in their respective collegiate divisions. Collegiate riders wishing to compete in non-collegiate divisions of SHTX may do so by entering those divisions and, if possible, the runs will be concurrent. The collegiate division will be offered at designated shows, typically during the spring and fall semester.

GR-303 CALCULATION OF POINTS FOR COLLEGIATE TEAM RIDERS AND TEAMS Points in each class in each division are calculated on the total number of collegiate teams represented, not on the number of total class entries or collegiate individual entries. GR304.2. SHTX Collegiate Individual All-Around Awards. *Note: Individual all-around or class awards are not typically given for SHTX Collegiate shows within are gular SHTX show since competitors are eligible for the regular SHTX show awards. Collegiate Individual All-Around and Class Awards may be awarded in SHTX approved Collegiate-Only Shows or Collegiate Team Challenges at the option of Show Management. a) To be eligible for SHTX Collegiate Individual All-Around Awards, a collegiate rider must compete in all four classes within the collegiate division. Awards are based on points from all four classes within the division earned based on the total number of collegiate riders. b) SHTX Collegiate Individual Class awards are based on the total number of collegiate riders per class. All SHTX collegiate members entered in the collegiate competition are eligible for individual class awards. In the Year-End Awards section of the rule book GR-230. GR-236 Collegiate Year-End Award The Collegiate Year-End Award will be presented to the two highest-placing collegiate riders in the Open/Non Pro, Limited Non Pro/Intermediate and Novice collegiate divisions. Year-End calculations will be based on points earned in the collegiate divisions at all SHTX-sanctioned shows. Winners will be presented their awards during the SHTX Year-End Awards Banquet. GR-236.1 To be eligible for All Around Year-End awards in the collegiate division, a horse/rider combination must compete as an All Around collegiate entry in at least 75% or more of all total collegiate shows a single division in enough shows throughout the year to equate one of the following whichever is less: at least 75% or more of the total collegiate shows within the collegiate academic year (spring/fall semesters), or At least 50% or more of the total shows in a given year. For example, if there are 7 out of 11 shows held within the academic collegiate year, a horse/rider combination must compete as a collegiate All Around entry in at least 5 shows throughout the year in a given division under the 75% rule.
