Don t let it happen to you. My number came up and I paid a hefty price. Last Friday I was preparing to go shooting the next AM with a buddy of mine. I had just put a new a-grip on my Glock. I put the weapon back together and inserted the mag. I did not pipe a round because I knew I was going to strip it later. About an hour later (mid-night or so), I returned to the garage to finish cleaning and getting gear together for the morning. I picked up the Glock, dropped the mag and prepared to remove the slide. I ve done this literally thousands of times in the last fifteen years, but this time things were a little different. I grabbed the slide getting ready to push the take on pins and pulled the trigger.bang!!!! Apparently I DID pipe a round. My shooting bud attributes it to force of habit, but why didn t I check the chamber before pulling the trigger? Shouldn t that be force of habit too?...contd page 2 The 2006 election was held At the general meeting to determine who would get two available board seats. PAGE 2 Entrance gate NEW POLICY Please close the gate and lock the combination lock twirl so combination is not visible even though shooters are using the facility. The only exception to this is when a match is in progress and you will know that by the sign at the gate telling you Match in Progress then and only then is it okay to leave the gate open. Remember we are all responsible for our facility. Trap Shooting Bill Thompson We have continued to shoot throughout the winter with a very good turnout. Our Spring League starts up April 3rd (Monday) and runs 10 weeks through June 10th. We will shoot Mondays and Wednesdays at 5 PM and Saturdays at 8 AM. We will not charge the $20 league fee this time and each round will cost $5. The cost is the same in the end but the bookkeeping is much easier. All shooting will be from the 16 yard line. Scores will be posted after each shooting day so everyone knows all the team scores. This worked very well last time. There will not be a meeting ahead of time, so just show up the first week and fill out your registration info and shoot! If you do not have a team, we will get you on one. There will be a banquet at the end with awards. Saturdays will be for League Makeup. We are trying to get a handicap league started which will be shot on Story Contd from page 1 col. 1 Not only did I set off a.45 in my garage, but it passed right through my left hand...yep...i shot myself point blank. I have a very clear image, and suspect I always will, of the hole in my hand...a perfect.45 diameter, not bleeding...yet. It took a few seconds, and then the arterial arch in my palm cut loose. Blood like you wouldn t believe. The bullet shattered my ring finger metatarsal, and removed two others. It destroyed the flexor tendon of my ring finger, almost separated my pinky tendon, and exited the right side of my wrist just above my watch band. There was a definite exit hole, but the blast force blew the side of my palm WIDE open about three inches in length. I didn t even see the exit wound until I removed my watch for the FD. Anyway, nine hours of surgery, three screws, a tendon graft from my forearm and about two-hundred sutures later I was put back together. My surgeon said if anyone has to get shot in the hand, this was how to do it. No nerve damage...whew. Physical therapy twice a week for God knows how long, and the surgeon expects at least 80% function back. Thanks for listening. My wife thinks I m crazy to post this, but it really does help me feel better. REMEMBER..CHECK THE CHAMBER Quiz What are three range commands used by the range officer and what exactly do they mean?
