Contact: Doug Hoffman (435) 797-3714 Sat., Sept. 6 --- IDAHO STATE, 6 p.m. (MW Network) Utah State s football team (0-1) will host Idaho State (0-1) in its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. (MT). The game will be streamed live on the internet by the Mountain West Network/Campus Insiders. USU is 14-2 all-time against the Bengals, including an 11-1 home record. L, 38-7 --- at Tennessee Utah State fell behind Tennessee, 14-0, in the first five minutes of the game and never recovered as the Volunteers rolled to a 38-7 win in the first-ever meeting between the two teams Sunday night at historic Neyland Stadium. In his first action since a knee injury forced him to miss the final eight games of the 2013 season, senior quarterback Chuckie Keeton completed 18-of-35 passes for 144 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, while adding 12 yards on the ground on eight carries. Junior wide receiver JoJo Natson was USU s leading rusher as he had 47 yards on two carries, while adding three receptions for 18 yards. Fellow junior wide receiver Brandon Swindall had a team-best five catches for 37 yards. USU s only points in the game came early in the fourth quarter as Natson rushed for 38 yards and Keeton hit junior wide receiver Hunter Sharp from 37 yards for the score to cap a 2-play, 75-yard drive that took all of 30 seconds. Sophomore linebacker Nick Vigil recorded a career-high 15 tackles, which included 1.0 sack and 2.0 tackles for loss to lead the Aggie defense. Senior linebacker Zach Vigil added 10 stops for his 12th career double-digit tackle outing and sophomore safety Devin Centers posted a career-best nine tackles. USU finished the game with 244 yards of total offense (144-passing, 100-rushing) as compared to 383 yards of total offense for Tennessee (273-passing, 110-rushing). SOCCER... W, 3-0 --- NEBRASKA-OMAHA Two goals from sophomore forward Jessica Brooksby and one from senior defender Taryn Rose boosted Utah State to a 3-0 home win against Omaha Sunday. The Aggies took control offensively early, taking seven shots in the first 14 minutes. Despite the early offense, USU was not able to find the back of the net. Sophomore forward Jessica Brooksby changed that in the 35th minute when she beat Omaha goalkeeper Meaghan Clark, scoring from three yards out. Brooksby scored her first goal of the season off a long pass from senior midfielder Lexie Morgan. In the first 45 minutes, USU out-shot UNO, 12-3. Starting goalkeeper, junior Jeannie Woller made one save in the first-half. Utah State maintained control much of the second half, out-shooting the Mavs 13-4 in the final 45 minutes and 25-7 for the match. USU will begin the tournament with two matches on Friday, Sept. 5 against Pepperdine (2-1) at 11 a.m. (MT) and against Idaho (1-2) at 6 p.m. (MT). USU will then conclude the tournament on Saturday, Sept. 6 against the host Anteaters (1-2) at 3 p.m. (MT). USU is 5-8-1 all-time against the Wave, 18-21 all-time against the Vandals and 9-21-1 all-time against UCI. MARY S Utah State posted a 1-2 record at its own USU Invitational over the weekend as it defeated Idaho State in four sets, lost to Oregon State in five sets, and lost to St. Mary s in four sets. Against the Bengals, senior outside hitter Rachel Orr had 19 kills and 17 digs, while senior middle blocker Kaitlyn VanHoff added 10 kills and senior libero Ashlan Rogers-Court had 26 digs. USU hit.215 (52-20-149) in the match and ISU hit.175 (61-29-183). Against the Beavers, Orr and VanHoff each recorded 15 kills, while freshman outside hitter Rachel Gale had 12 kills. Junior opposite side hitter Elle Brainard had a career-high 11 blocks, while Rogers-Court also recorded a career-high with 37 digs. USU finished the match with a.155 (58-31-174) hitting percentage and OSU hit.134 (57-33-179). Against the Gaels, Orr had 14 kills and 16 digs, while VanHoff added 11 kills. USU hit.196 (54-25-148) in the match and SMC hit.235 (57-21-153). For the weekend, Rogers-Court and VanHoff were both named to the all-tournament team. WOMEN S TENNIS... Contact: Sean O Sullivan (435) 797-8584 Fri.-Sun., Sept. 5-7 --- at Colorado State Invitational, Utah State s women s tennis team opens its 2014 fall season at the Colorado State Invitational, which begins on Friday, Sept. 5 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 7. Preseason Utah State returns its top four performers from a record-breaking 2013-14 season that saw the Aggies post a school-record 13 dual wins. Senior McKenzie Davis earned all-mountain West honors after setting a school record with 17 dual match singles wins, breaking the previous record of 16 set by Courtney Anderson during the 2005-06 season. Junior Kallie Sperry, and sophomores Nini Guensler and Lexi Turley all posted a double-digit dual match win total a year ago, giving USU four players with 10-plus wins in a season for the first time since 2010-11. The 2014 recruiting class of Erin Freeman, Sabrina Demerath, Maggie O Meara and Meghan Lyall was named the 11th-best midmajor recruiting class by the Tennis Recruiting Network, just ahead of fellow MW teams Boise State (12) and Air Force (15).

Contact: Doug Hoffman (435) 797-3714 Mon.-Tues., Sept. 1-2 --- at Weber State Invitational, Victor, ID, Sat.-Sun., Sept. 6-7 --- at Air Force Invitational, Utah State s men s golf team will begin its 2014 fall season on Monday, Sept. 1 at the fourth-annual Battle in the Tetons hosted by Weber State University. The two-day, 54-hole tournament, will be held at the Headwaters Golf Club at Teton Springs Resort in Victor, Idaho. The tournament, which gets underway Monday at 8 a.m., will play at par-72 over the 7,373-yard layout. Teams will play two rounds Monday and the final round Tuesday. Scheduled to compete for the Aggies is senior Grahm Schmaltz, junior Seokwon Jeon, and sophomores Tanner Jenson, Eli Rogers and McCoy Willey. Jeon played 32 rounds for Utah State last season and finished with a stroke average of 72.34. Schmaltz played 27 rounds and finished with a stroke average of 75.81, and Rogers played 15 rounds and had a stroke average of 75.93. At last year s Battle in the Tetons, Utah State finished fourth with a 16-over 880 (310-286-284), while Jeon placed 10th individually with a 1-over 217 (75-70-72). Rogers tied for 22nd with a 7-over 223 (82-70- 71), and Schmaltz (90-73-73) tied for 42nd with a 20-over 236. Following its tournament in Idaho, USU will conclude its week in Colorado playing in the Air Force hosted Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 6-7. CROSS COUNTRY... Contact: Lea Williams (435) 797-8584 Sat., Sept. 20 --- at Montana State Invitational, 9 a.m. Utah State s men and women s cross country teams will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20 when it travels to Bozeman, Mont., to compete in the Montana State Invitational. M: 2/4; W: 3/4 --- AGGIE INVITATIONAL Senior Eric Shellhorn led the way for the Utah State cross country teams as he crossed the finish line in 20:55.34, good for third at the Aggie Invitational last weekend. Sophomore Tori Parkinson was the top finisher for the women at the Aggie Invitational for the secondconsecutive year, placing ninth with a time of 19:50.86. In the team standings, the Aggie men finished in second-place behind Wyoming, while the Utah State women garnered the third spot behind Wyoming and Utah Valley, respectively. Sophomore Colby Wilson finished closest to Shellhorn in the men s four-mile race, snagging fifth-place with a time of 21:11.97. The third-fastest Aggie in the men s race was junior Tom Derr, who placed 10th with a time of 21:36.88. Three-straight Aggie s finished 15th, 16th and 17th, as senior Mike Bills (21:52.39), freshman Justin Sheets (22:00.80) and junior Kade Jensen (22:11.58) crossed the finish line in respective order to round out the top-20 for the Utah State men. In the women s five-kilometer race, freshman Kelsey Yamauchi finished right behind Parkinson in 10th, crossing the finish line in 19:52.32. Fellow freshman Hannah Malone was close behind, recording a time of 20:01.48 to take 12th. Also placing in the top-20 for Utah State was junior Amanda Stoudt (20:18.61), sophomore Elizabeth Winters (20:21.74) and junior Karlee Deeter (20:27.11), garnering the 18th, 19th and 20th spots.
