AFL FANTASY OFFICIAL 2019 DRAFT KIT 2 WELCOME FANTASY DRAFTERS! AFL Fantasy Draft is back! This format of Fantasy football is one of the fastest growing platforms that allows you to take on your friends, family and colleagues like never before. With every player selected unique to the coach who selected them, this game promises to get the competitive juices flowing, along with some fun seasonlong banter. We Roy, Calvin and Warnie - have developed this Draft Kit as a tool for coaches young and old. Whether you are a first-time player, or experienced campaigner, this kit is a must-have resource for all coaches. Our Draft league The Bacon Cup is a long-running league of mates who battle it out each year for a small pot of cash, Getting started with your Fantasy Draft league is simple. Whether it is via the website or the app, you can get your league up and running in no time. The commissioner is in charge of getting everything set up. Have a discussion with your league about what will work best, but consider some of the key settings when initially starting the league. The number of coaches may dictate what squad size you choose and whether you have captains on or off. To start this discussion, set up a chat group for all of the league members. This not only acts as a platform for the commissioner to send out information, but where the banter can be thrown around for the upcoming round and while head-to-head matchups are being played over the weekend. Draft day is the best day on the Fantasy calendar, so consider a Draft party. Get all of your league members together and make a day of it. A video link up will make those unable to attend feel part of the experience. Although the draft order is initially randomised, commissioners have the ability to set their own. Consider adding an extra event to the Draft experience where a competition could determine who gets the first pick. In the past we ve drawn a runner each in a horse race and the finishing order was our draft order. Another time, 12 golf but more importantly the ultimate bragging rights. Once you are in your league, get your Pre-Draft rankings sorted. Compile your list and make sure you rank players where you would like to select them, ready for when the clock starts ticking for your pick. After your rankings are sorted and a Draft order has been created, the fun begins and there is no more important day on your calendar than the Draft Day itself. With a stocked Eski and this kit printed out by your side, you ll be set for an amazing drafting experience and a year full of success. TIPS FOR THE COMMISSIONER balls were hit on a short par-three with the nearest to the pin earning the first selection. One of our favourites was when the reigning champion sent some rubber ducks down the river with our names on them as we all watched via a live Facebook stream. Maybe you could look to setting up a JLT Community Series tipping competition or a series of activities for everyone to be scored on to set your draft order. Organising your mates, league settings and Draft day isn t where it stops. Consider having some prizes such as a trophy for the winner, something for the highest score of the year and at the other end, maybe a punishment for the wooden spooners. Commissioners may need to oversee trades in their league. One of the settings can require the boss to give trade approval. If there is a very lopsided trade that may have two coaches colluding, you can veto this. Fantasy is serious business, but the commissioner can bring some fun to the league. Make 2019 a year to remember so your mates have something to talk about for years to come. WARNIE TEAM: Warne Dawgs AFL CLUB SUPPORTED: Essendon CAREER FANTASY HIGHLIGHT: Drafted Devon Smith in the 10th round last year. STRENGTHS: Draft order creativity. From ducks down a river to numbers on golf balls in a nearest the pin contest, Warnie nails it every year. He s the commissioner for a reason. WEAKNESSES: Mondayitis. After a bad round, you don t want to cross paths with the Warne Dawg. His bite on a Monday can be brutal after a weekend of disappointment. CALVIN TEAM: Calvinator AFL CLUB SUPPORTED: Adelaide Crows CAREER FANTASY HIGHLIGHT: Went early on Whitfield last year hoping for defender status to be added to his name as the season progressed. Nailed it. STRENGTHS: With Captains on in the Bacon Cup, Calvin will be in his element. His ability to decipher the numbers will only put him head and shoulders above his mates. WEAKNESSES: Draft Day antics. Up until 2017, Calvin thought it was called Draught Day. With a more focussed attitude in 2019, Calvin claims he will have a much better team selected from day one. ROY TEAM: destroy AFL CLUB SUPPORTED: Carlton CAREER FANTASY HIGHLIGHT: He has won premierships across all forms of Fantasy, but a kiss on the cheek from Tom Rockliff easily sits as one of his most memorable highlights. STRENGTHS: He s a scrap-heap scrounger. Roy will sort through free agents, regularly finding unwanted players, who he turns in to game-winning gems. WEAKNESSES: Over confident. Claims to be robbed every year but with his recent premiership back in 2017, Roy will once again be a main contender in the Bacon Cup. MID $808,000

AFL FANTASY OFFICIAL 2019 DRAFT KIT 3 HOW WILL YOUR LEAGUE PLAY OUT? League Size League Finals League Finals Format Play Opponents LEAGUE SETTINGS 4 / 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 14 / 16 / 20 coaches Yes / No 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 teams Flexible / Once / Twice COMMISSIONER S NOTE With the flexible finals format, we prefer to have approximately half of the league making finals. Our Bacon Cup league has 12 coaches and six make finals. We choose to have bye rounds off so we don t need to draft thinking about who will be missing over the multi-bye rounds. League Start Round Flexible (Round 1-16) Bye Rounds On / Off Draft Size Draft Order Draft Turn Time PLAYER DRAFT SETTINGS Live / Auto / Commissioner Snake / Linear 60 secs / 2 / 5 / 15/ 60 mins / 12 / 24 hours COMMISSIONER S NOTE As league members are all over the country, we opt for the live draft for the Bacon Cup and have 60 seconds per pick. If you have everyone together, consider the commissioner draft where selections are inputted on one computer. You can project this to a big screen for an authentic boardroom draft feel. Snake draft is the most popular order style where the order will reverse for every second round. GAMEPLAY SETTINGS Squad size and layout (DEF-MID-RUC-FWD/EMERG) 2-3-1-2/4 2-3-1-2/8 3-4-1-3/4 3-4-1-3/8 5-7-1-5/4 5-7-1-5/8 COMMISSIONER S NOTE There are some new squad structures this season, including more options where only one ruckman per team needs to be selected. Larger squad size formats are recommended for leagues with fewer coaches. Captains on will mean one player in each squad will gain double points for each round. We have opted to go for captains on this year in our league with Tom Mitchell out for the season and we run with the 3-4-1-3/8 structure meaning 228 players are drafted for our 12-coach league. Emergencies are enabled for that if one of your players doesn t play, the emergency for that position will count towards your weekly score. 6-8-2-6/4 6-8-2-6/8 Enable Captains Yes / No Emergencies Yes / No Rolling Lockout Yes / No TRADE AND RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS Restricted Free Agents Yes / No RFA Time Period 1 or 2 days RFA Draft Policy Reverse Ladder / Last Pick to Bottom RFA Privacy Private / Public COMMISSIONER S NOTE We choose to have restricted free agents on so that following a round, the most eager coach doesn t just pick up the best available players off the scrapheap! Reverse ladder order means that the coach who is struggling the most in the league can get a leg up by acquiring the next best available player in the event of injuries or the need to dump an under-performer. Trade Approval League or Commissioner Approved / Free-for-all

AFL FANTASY OFFICIAL 2019 DRAFT KIT 4 ROY'S STEALS AND SLEEPERS When looking for prospective Draft sleepers, you are looking for players that have slipped off the radar for one reason or another that you think have some realistic upside late in the draft. TIM TARANTO MID 2018 AVG: 91 Embraced his opportunities in the midfield last season and now looks set to become a permanent resident following the departure of Dylan Shiel. The elite-tackler is entering his traditional breakout third season and will be more than capable of averaging triple figures. Due to losing his dual position status from last season, he has dropped off the radar of many coaches now he s a pure midfielder. DOM TYSON MID 2018 AVG: 77 When the Draft is coming to an end and you are looking for a solid player to round out the midfield, Tyson is a prime candidate. His move to the Roos is set to open the door for him to become a permanent midfielder; a role we saw from him in 2016 and 2017 at the Demons when he averaged 93 and 90 respectively before falling out of favour last season. NIC NEWMAN DEF 2018 AVG: 76 Crisis creates opportunity and if there is a man down back for the Blues capable of assisting Kade Simpson to fill the lofty boots of Sam Docherty, it s the former Sydney ball-magnet Nic Newman. Noticeably leaner during his first pre-season with the Blues, Newman will be heavily relied upon to launch the Blues into attack and will score much higher than his 2018 average of 76 suggests. AARON HALL MID 2018 AVG: 72 The under-utilized former Sun will embrace the opportunity to play his naturally attacking style at the Kangaroos which ranks him in the elite category for metres gained among some of the league s best midfielders. When given the opportunity to play this style consistently in 2016, he averaged an impressive 105. Hall certainly has the chance to average triple figures this season for the second time in his career. KADE KOLODJASHNIJ DEF 2018 AVG: 68 The intercept-specialist will embrace the opportunity to play in a top-eight side, giving him every opportunity to live up to his considerable talent. Following an impressive average of 85 in 2017, last year he was derailed by a nasty concussion that kept him to eight games at an average of 68. More than capable of a career-high average in his first year as a Dee.

AFL FANTASY OFFICIAL 2019 DRAFT KIT 5 ROY'S STEALS AND SLEEPERS When looking for prospective Draft sleepers, you are looking for players that have slipped off the radar for one reason or another that you think have some realistic upside late in the draft. JACK NEWNES 2018 AVG: 66 FWD/MID A role change last year saw Newnes spend 47 per cent of his time in the forward line which resulted in his lowest disposal average since 2013. Some pretty disappointing Fantasy numbers followed as his average dropped by over 20 points to 66. He would be worth a late round pick as a forward in the hope he gets back into the midfield at some stage during the year where he traditionally averages in the 80s. JOSH J. KENNEDY FWD 2018 AVG: 65 After averaging more than 80 for three years straight, injury caused a dip in Kennedy s Fantasy output in 2018. He managed just 11 regular season games for an average of 65. Pretty ugly numbers on the surface, but when you consider he returned in the AFL Final Series to average 97, including 120 in the Grand Final, he could be a very handy contributor for a late selection. DYLAN ROBERTON DEF 2018 AVG: 63 Showed the ability to play at a premium level in 2017 with an average of 90. After a heart condition limited him to just four games and an average of 63 in 2018, he is well down a Draft list sorted by average. In his three full games during that time he averaged an impressive seven marks and 20 possessions. He is having a great pre-season and is well worth keeping an eye on as a forgotten defender. SHANE MUMFORD RUC 2018 AVG: DNP There are a number of reasons Mummy will slide on Draft Day, none more so than the fact he will miss the first two games with suspension following a year away from the game. Looking long term, if you miss out on one of the popular big name rucks, you could do worse than a guy who averaged 92, 94, 84 and 84 in his last four seasons. JAMIE ELLIOTT FWD 2018 AVG: DNP Fresh off the back of missing another entire season, the talented forward deserves better than to be sitting on the waiver wire and could be a very serviceable forward for the season. At his best, Elliott is capable of averaging more than 80 and from all reports he is having his most successful pre-season in a long time. Touch wood.

AFL FANTASY OFFICIAL 2019 DRAFT KIT 6 CALVIN'S BUSTS AND BEWARES Even though they performed last season or look to be a good pick, sometimes you can be burned and ruin your season. While they can be draftable, just don t pull the trigger too early. MAX GAWN RUC 2018 AVG: 111 Based on average, Gawn ranks as the fourth best player available. With the arrival of Braydon Preuss, there remains a lot of uncertainty about how this will effect Gawn. He is coming off a career-best season and is clearly the second-best ruckman in the game. Grundy will go at No.1 in most Drafts and waiting till the second round might be where you can pick up Gawn. You don t have to go early! GARY ABLETT MID 2018 AVG: 104 Geelong have come out and said that the Little Master will play forward more than the 29 per cent he sat there last year. Although he might gain forward status as the year progresses, it s very unlikely he ll maintain his average of 104. With all the points scored in the midfield, Ablett will have less of the ball than ever before. However, if he gains forward status then he could be a top six option. SCOTT PENDLEBURY MID 2018 AVG: 102 On Draft Day, it s easy to chase a name and Collingwood s Scott Pendlebury is certainly an intimidating one. At the age of 31, could this be the year that the champion is pushed out of the midfield to make room for the returning Dayne Beams? Although Pendlebury has been a premium midfielder over the last decade, he averaged 102 last year, his worst season since 2009. CONNOR BLAKELY DEF 2018 AVG: 92 After averaging 92 last season before getting injured, Blakely was high on the radar for coaches this year. Unfortunately, a hamstring injury has ruled him out for the first half of the year. Although you ll need to move Blakely down your rankings, you don t need to cross him off. Picking up Blakely with one of your final selections, could prove to be a game-winning play. TOM HAWKINS FWD 2018 AVG: 88 In his 12th year of AFL, out of the blue, Hawkins had a career-best season averaging 88. Prior to last year, Hawkins best year was just 78. Due to his breakout season, he currently sits as the 13th best forward, when ranked on average. If Hawkins was to return to his average of 78, he would be sitting 25 positions lower. Add to that, Geelong s new look forward-line. This is a concern for me and a concern for Hawkins.

AFL FANTASY OFFICIAL 2019 DRAFT KIT 7 CALVIN'S BUSTS AND BEWARES Even though they performed last season or look to be a good pick, sometimes you can be burned and ruin your season. While they can be draftable, just don t pull the trigger too early. HAMISH HARTLETT DEF 2018 AVG: 87 After five games last year, Hartlett suffered a season ending ACL injury. He had his career-best season in 2015 where he averaged 96 and is back training this year. The issue isn t his ability to score, it s ability to return from such a severe injury. Based on average, Hartlett sits as the 11th best defender to choose from. This is not the case and he should be bumped down your Draft rankings. JACK BILLINGS FWD 2018 AVG: 85 The promise of more midfield time burnt many coaches in 2018, as Billings averaged 75 in the first 11 games before being dropped. This pre-season promise is upon us once again and a decision needs to be made. He finished the season at an average of 85 but with the arrival of Hannebery and the improvement in their younger midfield players, where will Billings actually play? JORDAN LEWIS DEF 2018 AVG: 79 Lewis is a future Fantasy Hall of Famer who has served us well for many years. His average peaked in 2015 with Hawthorn where he averaged 111, but from then it has been on a steady slide. A new club with a new role saw Lewis average drop under 80 for the first time in 12 years. He is a durable player and therefore worthy of a late pick, but only as a bench option. AARON SANDILANDS RUC 2018 AVG: 76 With just 26 games next to his name over the last three years, you can certainly hold off before picking Aaron Sandilands. The rucks will drop off quickly and if you miss out on one of the first five or six, then you might as well sit tight. Selecting Sandilands with a late pick is certainly a good option, and even better if you can line-up Sean Darcy as his back-up on your bench. PATRICK RYDER RUC 2018 AVG: 75 We can wait on rucks! In his first year at Port Adelaide, Ryder dominated and averaged 91. However, in 2018 he was hampered by injury and only managed an average of 75 from 16 games. With Scott Lycett joining the Power, the big questions are being asked about what role he will play and how he will effect Ryder. The answer is simple it doesn t matter, as long as you don t pick him early.

AFL FANTASY OFFICIAL 2019 DRAFT KIT 8 THE TRADERS' DRAFT FANTASY FREAKO FREAKO With Tom Mitchell injured, I couldn t pass up on Jack Macrae with pick No.1. Only three players have scored 140+ points in four consecutive weeks in the history of the game, and Macrae is one of them. The reliable Toby Nankervis to leads the ruck, while in defence, I m backing Alex Witherden to shine. I m also expecting Isaac Heeney to reach greater heights. Missing Dusty after he was overlooked early was disappointing, but I m happy with Pendles. PICK 1 DEFENDER MIDFIELDER RUCK FORWARD Alex Witherden Jack Macrae Toby Nankervis Isaac Heeney Zac Williams Lachie Neale Robbie Gray Michael Hibberd Scott Pendlebury Jade Gresham Jack Steven BENCH Josh P. Kennedy Tom Bellchambers Hayden Crozier Jordan De Goey destroy ROY Another Draft Kit draft has come and gone and it s a familiar story down at destroy, I dominated it. The gift of ruck pig Brodie Grundy at pick two got me rolling and I didn t look back from there. It was no accident that I loaded my midfield with the stars from the highest scoring team, the Pies, and I am happy with the sliders that make up serviceable forward and back lines. BEARHAWK CHRIS H With pick three I wanted to secure a strong ruck, so wrapped big Max was still there. A pair of Jacks in the forward line (Riewoldt and Gunston) should wreak havoc, and I also went strong on dual position players (especially for the bench) to get me out of any injury mishaps. Speaking of injury, even though Blakely won t be there round 1, the top line defender will be invaluable come finals. RIXXY BUSINESS CHRIS C My fingers and toes were crossed for Danger still being available at pick No.4. Adding him to my forward line was an easy decision, but my second pick was tough. I'm going to have short-term pain with Andrew Gaff suspended, but I have a feeling it's going to pay off in the long run. The rest of the team picked itself, so this should be a walk in the park. PICK 2 PICK 3 PICK 4 DEFENDER MIDFIELDER RUCK FORWARD Nic Newman Adam Treloar Brodie Grundy Justin Westhoff Callum Mills Taylor Adams Mitch Robinson Dylan Roberton Steele Sidebottom Tom Lynch [ADE] Tim Taranto BENCH Aaron Hall Kade Kolodjashnij Jamie Cripps Shane Mumford DEFENDER MIDFIELDER RUCK FORWARD Connor Blakely Dayne Beams Max Gawn Sam Menegola Jack Crisp Lachie Hunter Jack Gunston Christian Salem Jaeger O Meara Jack Riewoldt Shaun Higgins BENCH Kyle Langford Lachie Weller Jarman Impey Rory Lobb DEFENDER MIDFIELDER RUCK FORWARD Matthew Suckling Andrew Gaff Stefan Martin Patrick Dangerfield Hamish Hartlett Angus Brayshaw Tom Hawkins Dale Thomas Bryce Gibbs Travis Boak Marcus Bontempelli BENCH Brad Sheppard Rhys Stanley Luke Breust Ed Curnow McDOWELL'S RICKY Going to be a tough time figuring out which mid to stop. Cripps, Dusty, Selwood and Crouch will get the job done most weeks. Backing Smith to regain his best form, especially with Milera keeping him company. McLean, Billings and Charlie is as exciting as it gets up forward and just in case this turns in to a keeper league, Sam Walsh rounds off a solid draft. PICK 5 DEFENDER MIDFIELDER RUCK FORWARD Brodie Smith Patrick Cripps Sam Jacobs Toby McLean Wayne Milera Matt Crouch Jack Billings Bachar Houli Dustin Martin Charlie Curnow Joel Selwood BENCH Luke Dahlhaus Luke McDonald Sam Walsh Sam Powell-Pepper

AFL FANTASY OFFICIAL 2019 DRAFT KIT 9 THE TRADERS' DRAFT MOREIRA S MAGIC SELBY I went in targeting strong defenders and forwards as the MIDs run pretty deep this year. Lloyd, Hurn and Ryan all take the kick-outs for their respective sides and will be the main beneficiaries of the new rule. Happy to take a punt of Kruz at pick 106 after he went top 10 in many drafts last season. If he and Toby Greene can stay on the park, I ll be tough to beat. WARNE DAWGS WARNIE My main strategy in the 10 team league was to leave my ruck until my last pick and I believe I ve done the right thing by snagging McEvoy. I ve got a midfield that will all average 105 plus and if Merrett can return to his 2016/17 form, he will be a consistent skipper. In hindsight I should have given the forwards some more love but if Ebert gains FWD status, it ll be fine. GRUNDY & COKE MJ With captains on, you need to go big early and Josh Kelly gives me exactly that. Sicily will be able to lead the troops down back and Buddy will kick an extra 10-15 goals with the relaxed hand in the back rule. Witts just fell into my lap at the right place, right time and I don t mind throwing a carrot to the pig Rockliff at M4. SHUEY S SHOCKERS JAMES With the exception of Cogs I ignored the pull of the premium MIDs until I had filled every other position. I m hoping the new kick-in rule helps my group of defenders with a nice jump in their average. Ward, Viney and Shuey will hopefully form a consistent if not spectacular midfield, while Goldstein had a brilliant end to the 2018 season and has very little competition going into this season at North. PICK 6 PICK 7 PICK 8 PICK 9 DEFENDER MIDFIELDER RUCK FORWARD Jake Lloyd Clayton Oliver Matthew Kreuzer Tim Kelly Shannon Hurn Jack Redden David Mundy Luke Ryan Luke Parker Toby Greene Jack Steele BENCH Tim English Jack Darling Grant Birchall Ollie Wines DEFENDER MIDFIELDER RUCK FORWARD Kade Simpson Zach Merrett Ben McEvoy Josh Dunkley Heath Shaw Sebastian Ross Jack Ziebell Andrew McGrath Nat Fyfe Jack Martin Rory Sloane BENCH Tom J. Lynch Jarrod Harbrow Brad Ebert Jarryd Lyons DEFENDER MIDFIELDER RUCK FORWARD James Sicily Josh Kelly Jarrod Witts Lance Franklin Zach Tuohy Dayne Zorko Mitch Wallis Shane Savage Dyson Heppell Blake Acres Tom Rockliff BENCH Brad Crouch Scott Lycett Darcy Parish Stephen Hill DEFENDER MIDFIELDER RUCK FORWARD Rory Laird Stephen Coniglio Todd Goldstein Tom McDonald Michael Hurley Callan Ward Chad Wingard Jayden Short Jack Viney Michael Walters David Zaharakis BENCH Kane Lambert Luke Shuey Jimmy Webster Ben Cunnington CALVINATOR CALVIN My goal heading into the Draft was simple, have a good even spread of players across each line. Although my selection of Ablett was premature, it's a move that will place me in a great position if he gains forward status early in the year. I like to gamble on a selection like this because if it pays off, having him sitting next to Devon Smith will be enough to intimidate anyone. Spend a few minutes refining your predraft list on Draft day, ensuring that up to date information such as injury news and projected role changes are taken into account to assist you with the accuracy of your rankings. A well-planned Draft list makes the seconds tick slower when it s your pick and allows you more strategic thinking time and flexibility as you navigate through your Draft. Remember a well-planned Draft order considers the depth in each position and gives due weight to a high scoring forward like Patrick Dangerfield or ruck like Brodie Grundy compared to the midfielders where high scoring players are far more accessible. Be sure to play a straight bat with your first selection, focussing on a combination of ability, durability, consistency and ceiling at the forefront of your thinking before locking in the face of your franchise. The time will come to take a punt on your predicted breakout players, but patience is a virtue in Draft so don t go too early If reliable stars are available, don t get unnecessarily pretty. When on the hunt for a breakout player that might slip through the cracks, there are a number of key categories to look for such as natural progression and increased opportunities. A prime example of this type of player is Tim Taranto, who would be well worth bumping up your Draft order and, more importantly highlighting him as one of your favourites on the feature provided. Having a bank of potential breakout players on your favourites list can be a lifesaver when the clock has almost timed out and you want to avoid an auto pick. Therefore, if you haven t already identified a group of favourites, do it now. Other players worth placing on you favourites list are players that are returning from injury that will be well down the list if your league rivals sort their players by average. Potential premiums such as Giant running-machine Zac Williams could change your season if you can grab them late in the Draft. Most importantly, a healthy mix of sticking to your plan, whilst also being flexible is vital as every Draft has a unique path and you need to be on your toes. Above all, back your instinct and enjoy!

Sure, the midfielders will score the most points and are generally the most consistent performers, but you don t want to miss out on the big guns from the other positions. Only 18 players with defender status averaged more than 80 points last season compared to the 85 midfielders. 32 forwards and 14 rucks that were able to reach that mark. It is important to understand what the benchmark minimum average for each player according to your league settings. That is, in a 3-4-1-3 on-field set up, based on 2018 averages alone, would see a minimum return of 74 points per week for defenders, 90 for the midfielders, 81 for rucks, and 79 average for forwards as the last on-field players per line. Setting up your rankings in tiers can help. For example, the top ruck is likely to be Brodie Grundy after his 120 average season. Nine points per game separated him and Max Gawn and a further 10 to Stefan Martin. These three players may all appear in three different tiers before a fourth tier featuring Todd Goldstein, Jarrod Witts, Justin Westhoff, Callum Sinclair, Sam Jacobs, Toby Nankervis and Matthew Kreuzer. Grouping players in each position where you d take them when comparing to other players being drafted at the time can help you make the right choices for your overall squad.
