It is a wonderful week where students read books, share their own published books, vote for their favourite short listed books, dress up as characters from books and swap books they have brought from home. I would like to thank Mrs Bourke for coordinating the Book Week activities at our school. Once again, the highlight of the week was the annual parade on Monday morning with the students proudly displaying their costumes and announcing to everyone who they were dressed up as and what book they were in. Photos of the parade will be published in next week s newsletter. I hope this week has helped instil in your children a love of reading. Interschool Athletic Sports Congratulations to all of the students who competed in the Interschool Athletic Sports this week, especially the Grade 3 students who were participating in their first carnival. Eight primary schools were involved in the carnival and the overall trophy (based on the average number of points per student) in the senior school section (11 & 12/13 Year Old Age Groups) was won by our school for the second year in a row. Students participating in the middle school section (9 & 10 Year Old Age Groups) came fifth. We also had 6 students who finished 1 st or 2 nd in their respective age groups and they will now get the opportunity to compete at zone level in Bendigo on Monday 12 th September. GRADE REPORTS Grade Prep A: What a fantastic day we had at the Athletics Sports last Thursday. Thank you for coming along and cheering on your child. They all did an awesome job for their first sports day. A special thank you to Alanna s mum for marshalling the Preps to their event all day. Book Week was also a great day although we were short on numbers due to the awful coughs and colds that have been striking the Preps down. They enjoyed the Book Week parade and spending the day in their terrific costumes. The Book Swap today was great fun and the Preps enjoyed their new book. Father s Day Breakfast is next Thursday so we hope to see you all there ready for the bacon and eggs. In Maths we have covered modelling addition and subtraction, skip counting and friends of ten with playing cards. We had a great lesson on Chance using spinners, heads and tails and dice. We had a yummy pizza lunch on Wednesday to celebrate our 5cent win. Thank you to Fred s mum for organising and delivering our pizzas. Next week we have Jayne Wallace in our room. She is a First year teaching student from La Trobe Bendigo. Enjoy your weekend. Grade 1B & 2C: This week we were all very excited to come dressed as different characters for Book Week! It was fantastic to see everyone get dressed up and get into the spirit of Book Week. We enjoyed showing off our magnificent costumes during the parade and sharing our own Book Week stories with parents. Grade One and Two enjoyed sharing their Book Week books with their buddies and writing kind messages on the back of their certificates to celebrate their success. During Maths Grade Two have moved into division and are beginning to learn strategies to help them become champion dividers and Grade One have been working on subtraction using number lines and counting backwards and forwards. It was fantastic to see the book swap in action today and see everyone enjoying their new books. Just a reminder that next week we are having our Father s Day breakfast at 7:30am on Thursday. Have a great weekend everybody. Grade 3D & 4E: Hi everyone, week 7 is done and dusted and what a big week it was! Book Week started on Monday and saw all the students come dressed as some of their favourite characters for the annual Book Week parade. It was fantastic to see the enthusiasm and effort that each child showed on the day. We were also finally able to display and share our book week work that has been building for the past 5 weeks and each student was able to share with their friends, buddies, and parents. On Tuesday the Grade 3 s experienced their first interschool athletics carnival and every Grade 3/4 student should be proud of their behaviour, effort and determination. On Wednesday we visited the Echuca Library for a Book Week activity based around the shortlisted book Mr Huff, with the students once again showing great respect and behaviour outside of the classroom. In Maths we have moved onto the topic of mass and we began to correctly measure items around the classroom. Another action packed week is completed. Keep it up Grade 3/4! Grade 5F & 6G: Wow! What a jammed packed week we have had. Monday was a fabulous day to kick off Book Week, everyone came dressed up as a book character. The amount of effort that was put into the costumes was fantastic and all students looked fantastic! We also got the opportunity to read each other s Book Week stories. In the afternoon we got together with our buddies and read our books together. It was fabulous to see the students encouraging others and giving compliments to their buddy. On Wednesday our 11/12 year olds participated in the Interschool athletics. A fantastic day was had by all and we were very impressed with the behaviour and sportsmanship all our students demonstrated. It was a bonus that all our hard work payed off and we left as overall champions! Today we had a successful book swap to end our fabulous Book Week. We hope everyone has a restful weekend and see you all back next week for a week full of learning. 5
