The midfielder is one of 10 men s lacrosse players selected as a Senior CLASS Award finalist. Perkovic has been named an Honorary ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipient and is the only men s lacrosse player in the league to earn the accolade. Perkovic has notched three hat tricks this season and has ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors on two occasions in 2017. The senior earned USILA First Team All-America honors in 2015 and 2016, is a three-time All-ACC selection (2015, 2016 & 2017) and is a three-time ACC All-Academic team recipient (2014, 2015 & 2016). Has come up with big plays in big games, scoring 20 postseason goals in nine games, including his remarkable five goals in the fourth quarter in the 2015 NCAA Championship semifinal game against Denver to force overtime. GLEASON AND COSTABILE STEPPING UP ON OFFENSIVE END Sophomore Brendan Gleason and freshman Bryan Costabile have played major roles in Notre Dame s success this season. Costabile and Gleason are tied for fourth on the team in goals with 16 on the season. Gleason is fourth on the squad in points with 21, consisting of 16 goals and five assists. Gleason has led the Irish in goals three times this season, including in the final of the ACC Championship against UNC. He scored three goals, marking the first hat trick of his career. Costabile scored at least one goal in each of the first seven games during his debut season and has 19 points on the year. Costabile turned in his best performance of his debut season against Duke in the semifinals of the ACC Championship, recording the first hat trick of his career with a team-high three goals. Both Costabile and Gleason were selected to the ACC All-Tournament Team after their impressive displays in Durham, North Carolina. ONE OF THE TOUGHEST SCHEDULES IN THE COUNTRY Notre Dame has never shied away from scheduling the top teams in the country and this season s schedule is a prime example of welcoming all challenges. Seven of Notre Dame s 2017 opponents are currently ranked in at least one of the national polls. Notre Dame s 12 regular season opponents have a combined record of 96-47 for a winning percentage of.671, which ranks as the second highest of any team s combined opponents in the country. The Irish are fourth in this week s USILA Coaches Poll and have played five of the other six teams ranked in the top seven, going 3-3 against the competition. PERKOVIC S CAREER DAY Sergio Perkovic turned in one of his best performances in his already storied career against Marquette on April 11, scoring a career-high six goals to deliver the Irish an 11-10 victory. The midfielder scored the game winner with under 30 seconds to go to put Notre Dame on top for good. The six goals came on just nine shots and the senior added a ground ball. RIPPING THE NET er Bobby Gray unleashed a perfect strike for a goal against North Carolina on April 22 that tore all the way through the netting of the goal. The graduate transfer has a career-high five goals on the year. SEXTON NAMED ACC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK (3/27) Notre Dame junior long stick midfielder was selected as the ACC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season and second time in his career after the win over No. 4/4 Ohio State on March 25. The junior scooped up a season-high five ground balls and recorded his first goal and assist of the season against the Buckeyes. Sexton has three goals and one assist on the year to go along with a team-high 38 ground balls. GARNSEY EMBRACES PLAYMAKER ROLE Notre Dame sophomore Ryder Garnsey has excelled as a playmaker for the Irish in 2017, leading the team with 39 points off 19 goals and 20 assists through 12 games. The sophomore has totaled four or more points in five games this season and has recorded multiple points in 10 outings in 2017. Garnsey has posted at least one goal and one assist in 10- of-12 games this season. A DOMINATING DEFENSE Since the beginning of the 2007 season (a span of 168 games), the Irish defense has limited opponents to seven goals or fewer 95 times. Notre Dame has held foes to four goals or fewer 20 times during that stretch. The Irish have allowed 10 or more goals just 36 times in the last 110 games. The trio has carried much of the offensive load during the 2017 season, combining for 66 goals. Wynne leads the Irish with 25 goals and Perkovic is second with 22. Garnsey has found the back of the net 19 times on the year. Of Notre Dame s 165 goals from the 2016 season a majority came from the three players with Mikey Wynne (40), Ryder Garnsey (27) and Sergio Perkovic (26) combining for 93 goals last season. A NATIONAL BRAND Notre Dame opened the season in Texas with a win over Georgetown in the Patriot Cup, continuing the tradition of playing all around the country. Last season the Irish played two regular season games in different regions of the country, as they opened the season in Kennesaw, Georgia against Georgetown and then played Maryland in Orange County, California. The Irish unofficially opened the 2017 season in Florida, playing Team USA in Bradenton after training for three days at IMG Academy. Since the 2013 season, the Irish have played regular season and postseason games in seven professional stadiums, including Lucas Oil (Indianapolis), Met Life Stadium (East Rutheford, N.J.), EverBank Field (Jacksonville), Sports Authority Field at Mile High (Denver), M&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore), Talen Energy Stadium (Philadelphia), and Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia). NOTRE DAME VS. TOP 10 TEAMS Notre Dame is 32-22 against teams ranked in the top 10 in the USILA Coaches Poll since the start of the 2008 season. The Irish are 3-3 this season against top 10 teams, as the program defeated No. 2/1 Maryland 5-4, No. 4/4 Ohio State 12-7 and No. 4/4 Duke in the ACC semifinals 7-6 and fell to No. 4/5 Denver 11-10, No. 3/4 Syracuse 11-10 and No. 10/10 Duke in the regular season 11-8. EPPLE RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION Senior defenseman Garrett Epple was named the USILA Defensive Player of the Week and the NCAA Player of the Week after helping the Irish shut down the Maryland attack in a 5-4 win on March 4. Epple was also named ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for two consecutive weeks for his performances against Michigan (2/26) and Maryland (3/4). The senior s performance against Maryland was the best by any Irish defender this season. Epple matched his career high in caused turnovers with four and collected a seasonhigh six ground balls. Epple shut down Maryland s prolific attackman Matt Rambo, holding him scoreless in the game. SIX TABBED AS PRESEASON ALL-AMERICANS Six Notre Dame players garnered preseason All- America honors from Inside Lacrosse. Senior midfielder Sergio Perkovic, senior goalie Shane Doss and senior defender Garrett Epple were selected to the first team, while sophomore attackman Ryder Garnsey and junior midfielder John Sexton were placed on the third team. Junior attackman Mikey Wynne was an honorablemention pick. ALL-ACC ACCOLADES Notre Dame s Sergio Perkovic, Garrett Epple and John Sexton earned All-ACC Team recognition as announced by the conference on April 27. The honor is Perkovic s third of his career and the second for Sexton. Epple received the accolade for the first time in his career. POSTSEASON SUCCESS Notre Dame is the only program to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship in each of the last seven campaigns. Notre Dame and Maryland are the only two programs to earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field in each of the last 11 seasons. The Fighting Irish are 9-5 in the NCAA tournament over the last five seasons. 2017 Team Captains Shane Doss Shane has been back in goal for us three years now. He s a guy that everybody looks to and if you want your team s mantra to be do your job then we have a guy who shows up every week and does his job. - Head Coach Kevin Corrigan Nick Koshansky Nick has really earned the respect of his teammates for not only the way he has played but in the role he has played in the last year while he was hurt. He reached out to help other people and continued to be part of our team in an active way while he was getting surgery. He was still at every practice, every game and remained involved in everything we were doing. I think he earned a lot of respect in the way he handled things. - Head Coach Kevin Corrigan Anthony Marini You don t see a lot of guys who haven t played a lot who become captains when they are seniors because it is hard sometimes in that role to get that respect but I think that Anthony earned it everyday over the last three and a half years. He works as hard as anybody we have. He helps guys understand what we re doing, what they are doing and what they need to do, even when they are the guys that he is competing with for playing time. He s really a great example of what a great teammate is and should be and I think everybody recognizes that. It is a terrific honor for him and says great things about him and our team that everyone recognizes and respects that and wants to reward him with being a captain. - Head Coach Kevin Corrigan Sergio Perkovic There s no harder working guy than Sergio. He s our best player and our hardest working player. He does thing right and doesn t take shortcuts on anything. He works hard in the weight room and the classroom. If you re looking at what the model is for how we want to conduct ourselves in terms of the daily process of being a student athlete, then I don t think there is a better example in our department than Sergio Perkovic. - Head Coach Kevin Corrigan Page 5
