EDWARD S HILLTOPPERS (10-5, 0-0 HC) Head Coach: Stefanie Holler (First Season) The open road beckons for the Texas A&M-Kingsville women s volleyball team, as they prepare to embark on a road swing that will take them to three cities for four matches in three days, including a pair of contests against Lone Star Conference foes. TAMUK will hit the road hoping to take with them the momentum they built following a home sweep of St. Mary s on Tuesday. In addition to an excellent evening from junior Sarah Miller (Long Beach, Calif.), who collected her fifth double-double, senior Haley Hutchinson (Georgetown, Texas) led the team with.538 hit percentage, the second time in 2018 she s posted a kill rate of better than.500. The contributions from junior Talleyshia Morris (Tulsa, Okla.) continue to increase. Over her team s last two matches, Morris is hitting.348 with 10 kills and 10 total blocks. Senior Madison Brabham (Kingwood, Texas) reached 20 assists for the fourth time in her last six games by passing out 21 helpers against the Rattlers. The trip begins with a visit to St. Edward s in San Antonio, who the Javelinas will play on Thursday at 4 p.m. The Hilltoppers are off to a 10-5 start, a mark a that includes a five-game-win streak that saw SEU defeat a pair of teams from the Lone Star Conference. Former assistant Stefanie Holler was elevated to head coach in June after three seasons during which she helped the team improve from eight wins to 11 to 16 a season ago. It didn t take long for Holler to earn her first win as a head coach, as the Hilltoppers began the year with a sweep of Florida Tech. Holler had the benefit of returning three All-Heartland Conference selections in libero Morgan Beckham, middle blocker Mikayla Parker and outside hitter Kate Hendrix. So far in 2018, the Hilltoppers have been able to rise to the top of the league leaderboard in several categories, including hitting percentage, where they ve posted a mark of.191, led by Parker s success rate of.262, third-best in the HC. Their mark of 2.11 blocks per set and 19.61 digs per set are also the Heartland s best. The next night, TAMUK will be in San Angelo, Texas to play the Angelo State Rambelles at 7 p.m. at Stephens Arena at the Junell Center. The Rambelles, who are receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, have returned to their customary spot near the top of the LSC, winning four of their first five league matchups while sitting at 11-4 overall. The Rambelles own a 42-13 edge in their rivalry with the Javelinas. TAMUK will be trying to snap an 11-match losing streak in San Angelo. An 11-2 start to the season has helped the Tarleton State TexAnns garner the No. 20 ranking in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Since suffering consecutive losses to Central Oklahoma and Dixie State in August, coach Mary Schindler has seen her team reel off eight straight wins. Those victories have included triumphs over No. 25 Texas A&M-Commerce, an Angelo State team that s receiving votes, and West Texas A&M, the squad picked to finish one spot ahead of Tarleton in the LSC s preseason rankings. Tarleton s squad is led by middle blockers Hannah McManus and Sofia Tonga, who have formed the conference s most formidable set of middle blockers so far this season. McManus s average of 1.38 blocks per set stands as the LSC s best, with Tonga holding down second at 1.33. 2018 LSC Preseason Poll School (First Place Votes) Points Angelo State (8) 304 West Texas A&M (10) 282 Tarleton State (7) 277 Texas A&M-Commerce (4) 263 Texas Woman s 197 Texas A&M-Kingsville 191 Eastern New Mexico 133 Midwestern State 100 Western New Mexico 98 Cameron 80 UT Permian Basin (1) 55 2018 Lone Star Conference Standings School LSC Overall Tarleton State 5-0 11-2 Angelo State 4-1 11-4 UT Permian Basin 3-1 8-4 Western New Mexico 2-1 6-6 Eastern New Mexico 3-3 5-8 Texas A&M-Commerce 2-2 10-4 Texas A&M-Kingsville 2-2 8-5 West Texas A&M 2-3 7-6 Texas Woman s 1-3 9-5 Midwestern State 0-4 2-10 Cameron 0-4 2-12 JavelinaAthletics.com #GottaJavIt 2018-19 @JavelinaVB Game Notes - 1 -

Tanya Allen Head Coach Eighth Season at Texas A&M-Kingsville New Mexico 07 The 2018 season will be Tanya Allen s eighth year at the helm of the Javelina volleyball program. In 2017, she continued her streak of guiding her team to the Lone Star Conference tournament, a benchmark the squad has reached every season since Allen took over. Five of the team s studentathletes landed on the LSC s postseason rosters, with Madison Brabham, Lexi Wick and Krystal Faison all garnering first-team all-conference recognition. Wick and Casey Klobedans were honored with spots on the CoSIDA Academic All-District rosters, the first time in program history two Javelinas have earned that status in the same season. Allen added 21 more victories to her program-record win total, which now stands at 131. In the spring of 2018, Allen guided the beach volleyball team to an American Volleyball Coaches Association National Championship. The Javelinas posted a record of 20-10 during a season that saw them notch seven victories over teams from Division I schools. At the AVCA Small College Beach Championships, TAMUK won all four of its matches. clinching the national title with a 4-1 defeat of Eckerd College. In doing so, they became the first women s team in school history to earn a national championship. At season s end, Allen s freshman tandem of Tenley Housler and Erin Umbel were recognized with AVCA Top Flight Awards after they went 23-7 as a team. Allen spent 2016 making Javelina volleyball history as she took Texas A&M University-Kingsville to the NCAA South Central Region for the first time ever. The Hogs concluded the season with the most wins in program history (26-10) and Wick became the first Division II Conference Commissioner s Association (D2CCA) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region and All- American nominee. The 2016 Javelina squad ranked fourth in Division II in kills (1,706), assists (1,602) and aces (225), and eighth in total blocks with 298. All in all, Wick was named AVCA and D2CCA All-American honorable mention, D2CCA First Team All-South Central Region, All-LSC First Team, LSC All-Tournament Team and LSC Newcomer of the Year. Faison joined Wick on the All-LSC first team and LSC All-Tournament squad, surpassing 1,000 career kills in her Javelina career. Faison earned back-to-back first team allconference selections and also became the first A&M-Kingsville student-athlete to earn NCAA South Central Region All-Tournament honors. The spring of 2017 saw Allen s beach volleyball team make its collegiate debut. The squad, which was first announced as an addition to TAMUK s athletics program in 2015, won its first four matches before finishing their inaugural campaign with a record of 10-17, a mark that included a pair of victories over Division I Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Allen surpassed 100 career wins with a straight set victory at Midwestern State University October 15. The Hogs went 10-6 in LSC play and earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament, where they defeated West Texas A&M University in a five set thriller for the school s first LSC tournament win since 1998. Klobedans became the all-time leader in assists and was named All-LSC second team. Allen led the 2015 squad to 19 wins and their fourth consecutive Lone Star Conference Tournament appearance, highlighted by the Javelina leader becoming the all-time winningest coach in program history early in the season and led the school to its best season since 1998. She went into 2016 with an 84-76 mark and her.525 winning percentage is second best among qualified coaches in TAMUK history. Despite having zero seniors on the 2015 team, the Hogs totaled eight conference victories en route to earning the No. 5 spot in the 2015 LSC Tournament. Led by Klobedans and Faison, who both landed on the All-LSC first-team and All-LSC second-team honoree Brett Zaccardo (all three were sophomores), the Javelinas upset nationally-ranked Angelo State University in four sets and defeated West Texas A&M University on Oct. 10 for the first time since 2004. Allen became the all-time winningest coach with her 69th victory on Sept. 11 when Texas A&M- Kingsville swept St. Mary s University. One day later, Zaccardo set a new three-set mark in digs with 29 in a sweep of Lubbock Christian University. For her efforts, Zaccardo was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 15 after averaging 5.77 digs per set in four matches. Following TAMUK s upset win over the Rambelles, outside hitter Valarie Moehrig was named LSC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying 41 kills in three matches. Moehrig became the first weekly LSC honoree on the offensive side since current graduate assistant coach Kelsey Washington earned the distinction Oct. 8, 2013. The historic season continued as Zaccardo ended the month of October as the first player in school history to surpass the 500 digs mark. Poised to earn a spot in the NCAA South Central Regionals for the first time ever, the Javelinas appeared at No. 7 in the initial South Central Regional rankings. In the LSC Tournament opener versus No. 4 Cameron University, the Javelinas nearly advanced to the semifinals before falling to the Aggies in a five-set thriller. Klobedans was named to the conference all-tournament team and All-LSC first-team after earning co-setter of the year honors in 2014. Faison also appeared on the first-team and Zaccardo was named to the second-team and LSC All-Academic team. The team finished 23rd in NCAA Division II in total attacks (4,748), 28th in team digs (2,257) and 37th in team assists (1,526). During the 2014 campaign, the Blue and Gold saw six individuals receive LSC honors as Washington was named to the first-team for the second straight season and Ashley Bukowski, Faison and Stephanie Johns appeared on the second-team. Klobedans and Zaccardo earned honorable mention and Klobedans was selected the league s co-setter of the Year. Also during the year, Zaccardo was selected as the LSC s Defensive Player of the Week on September 30 and Bukowski was twice named to an all-tournament team (Rollins Invitational and Emerald Beach Hotel-Javelina Volleyball Invitational) in the regular season. TAMUK was named the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Student Athlete Advisory Committee Team of the Year for the second consecutive time for all of their community service and outreach. Also picking up school athletic awards were Moehrig (co-saac Representative of the Year) and Washington (Athlete Career Award). Nationally, the team was 13th in blocks per set at 2.38, 18th in total blocks (276.5) and 39th in hitting percentage (.228). Johns ranked No. 36 in total blocks (123) and Ashley Tipps was No. 33 in blocks per set at 1.13. In 2013, three Javelinas were selected All-LSC honors as Washington appeared on the first team and Johns and Dedra Brown earned honorable mention. Washington concluded her junior campaign with 17 double-doubles and also joined an elite list of student-athletes that surpassed 1,000 career kills. Washington was named to the LSC All-Tournament team for her performance in the quarterfinals. Johns, along with her Honorable Mention selection, was named to the University of Anchorage Alaska All-Tournament Team. Both Washington (Offensive) and Johns (Defensive) were selected as LSC Players of the Week on Oct. 8. The Javelinas downed Texas Woman s University Oct. 4 for the first time since 2002 in the friendly confines of the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center. Off the court, the Javelina volleyball program was named the 2014 Texas A&M University-Kingsville Student Athlete Advisory Committee Team of the Year for their community service and outreach. The 2012 campaign featured two All-LSC selections with Washington and Brown earning second team honors. Ali Insell was selected to the LSC All-Academic team and CoSIDA Academic All-District VI First Team. Kalinda Graves appeared on the LSC All-Tournament team for her performance in the conference postseason tourney. As a team, the Hogs finished 13th in the country in digs per set, averaging 18.38. Joining the Javelina coaching staff in 2011, she led TAMUK to a 15-15 season and a spot in the LSC Tournament. Laura Macek set a school record for blocks in a match and Bethany Friesenhahn set a program mark for attack percentage in a match. Washington appeared on the All-LSC second team and Insell was honorable mention. Allen came to the Javelinas after three outstanding seasons as the head coach of the Frank Phillips College volleyball program. There, she earned Western Junior College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year three times and was a two-time NJCAA District V Coach of the Year. In 2011, the American Volleyball Coaches Association chose Allen as a 30-under-30 recipient. Allen posted a 100-30 record in her three seasons at Frank Phillips.
