The Javs recorded a good start and a good finish to their most recent weekend of action, but those victories were sandwiched around a pair of conference losses. These two contests will give TAMUK a chance to get back to.500 in the LSC, as they currently sit in eighth in the league. Freshman Nicole Murff (San Antonio, Texas) put together an outstanding weekend for the Blue and Gold, anchoring the defense with an average of 5.88 digs per set, the best total in the LSC. That stretch included TAMUK s victory over St. Edward s, during which Murff was credited with 39 scoops, the second-highest total in program history in a single match. Her rate of 5.14 digs per set is the LSC s third-best mark. TAMUK s defense has also proved to be excellent at the net this season, as evidenced by the team s average of 2.18 blocks per set, second-best in the conference. Against St. Edward s, the Javs tied a season-high with 15 rejections, led by senior Haley Hutchinson (Georgetown, Texas), who collected eight block assists. The senior from Georgetown continues to close in on the program s all-time record for total blocks. The 62 she s accumulated in 2018 gives her a career total of 441, 42 away from the record held by Ada Ihemelu. The Lady Buffs used the most recent weekend to leap above.500 by taking home dates against UT Permian Basin and Western New Mexico. Coach Jason Skoch saw his team post hitting percentages above.200 in each contest, with WT scoring sweeps on both occasions. Outside hitter Taylor Kress was one of the stars of the weekend for Skoch, logging a double-double in both outings, including a 15-kill, 12-dig afternoon against Western New Mexico on Saturday, during which she hit.394. Sophomore Destiny Jones crafted a kill rate of better than.400 in each victory and has been WT s most efficient player on the offensive end, posting a success rate of.307 in 2018, fifth-best in the LSC. Sophomore Chandler Vogel has been the anchor of West Texas s defense and is leading the league with an average of 5.42 digs per set. She set a season-high with 31 against Eastern New Mexico on Sept. 18th. The Greyhounds also own an advantage in their all-time series with the Javelinas, but the tables have turned over the last 13 seasons. Since 2005, TAMUK has gone 18-4 against their rivals from Portales and none of ENMU s wins during that stretch have come in Kingsville. Outside hitter Jasmine Gannon presents the most formidable challenge for Allen s defenders. Her mark of 3.64 kills per set stands as the best in the LSC and her total of 222 finishers is 36 more than Texas Woman s Maggie Pyles, who sits in second. The native of Clovis, N.M. began her season with 21 smashes against Emporia State and has reached double figures in that category in every match this year. 2018 LSC Preseason Poll School (First Place Votes) Points Angelo State (8) 304 West Texas A&M (10) 282 Tarleton State (7) 277 Texas A&M-Commerce (4) 263 Texas Woman s 197 Texas A&M-Kingsville 191 Eastern New Mexico 133 Midwestern State 100 Western New Mexico 98 Cameron 80 UT Permian Basin (1) 55 2018 Lone Star Conference Standings School LSC Overall Tarleton State 7-0 15-2 Angelo State 6-1 13-4 Texas A&M-Commerce 5-2 13-4 West Texas A&M 5-3 10-6 Eastern New Mexico 5-3 7-9 UT Permian Basin 4-4 9-7 Texas Woman s 3-4 11-6 Western New Mexico 3-4 7-9 Texas A&M-Kingsville 2-5 10-8 Midwestern State 0-7 2-13 Cameron 0-7 2-15 JavelinaAthletics.com #GottaJavIt - 1 -

Tanya Allen Head Coach Eighth Season at Texas A&M-Kingsville New Mexico 07 The 2018 season will be Tanya Allen s eighth year at the helm of the Javelina volleyball program. In 2017, she continued her streak of guiding her team to the Lone Star Conference tournament, a benchmark the squad has reached every season since Allen took over. Five of the team s studentathletes landed on the LSC s postseason rosters, with Madison Brabham, Lexi Wick and Krystal Faison all garnering first-team all-conference recognition. Wick and Casey Klobedans were honored with spots on the CoSIDA Academic All-District rosters, the first time in program history two Javelinas have earned that status in the same season. Allen added 21 more victories to her program-record win total, which now stands at 131. In the spring of 2018, Allen guided the beach volleyball team to an American Volleyball Coaches Association National Championship. The Javelinas posted a record of 20-10 during a season that saw them notch seven victories over teams from Division I schools. At the AVCA Small College Beach Championships, TAMUK won all four of its matches. clinching the national title with a 4-1 defeat of Eckerd College. In doing so, they became the first women s team in school history to earn a national championship. At season s end, Allen s freshman tandem of Tenley Housler and Erin Umbel were recognized with AVCA Top Flight Awards after they went 23-7 as a team. Allen spent 2016 making Javelina volleyball history as she took Texas A&M University-Kingsville to the NCAA South Central Region for the first time ever. The Hogs concluded the season with the most wins in program history (26-10) and Wick became the first Division II Conference Commissioner s Association (D2CCA) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region and All- American nominee. The 2016 Javelina squad ranked fourth in Division II in kills (1,706), assists (1,602) and aces (225), and eighth in total blocks with 298. All in all, Wick was named AVCA and D2CCA All-American honorable mention, D2CCA First Team All-South Central Region, All-LSC First Team, LSC All-Tournament Team and LSC Newcomer of the Year. Faison joined Wick on the All-LSC first team and LSC All-Tournament squad, surpassing 1,000 career kills in her Javelina career. Faison earned back-to-back first team allconference selections and also became the first A&M-Kingsville student-athlete to earn NCAA South Central Region All-Tournament honors. The spring of 2017 saw Allen s beach volleyball team make its collegiate debut. The squad, which was first announced as an addition to TAMUK s athletics program in 2015, won its first four matches before finishing their inaugural campaign with a record of 10-17, a mark that included a pair of victories over Division I Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Allen surpassed 100 career wins with a straight set victory at Midwestern State University October 15. The Hogs went 10-6 in LSC play and earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament, where they defeated West Texas A&M University in a five set thriller for the school s first LSC tournament win since 1998. Klobedans became the all-time leader in assists and was named All-LSC second team. Allen led the 2015 squad to 19 wins and their fourth consecutive Lone Star Conference Tournament appearance, highlighted by the Javelina leader becoming the all-time winningest coach in program history early in the season and led the school to its best season since 1998. She went into 2016 with an 84-76 mark and her.525 winning percentage is second best among qualified coaches in TAMUK history. Despite having zero seniors on the 2015 team, the Hogs totaled eight conference victories en route to earning the No. 5 spot in the 2015 LSC Tournament. Led by Klobedans and Faison, who both landed on the All-LSC first-team and All-LSC second-team honoree Brett Zaccardo (all three were sophomores), the Javelinas upset nationally-ranked Angelo State University in four sets and defeated West Texas A&M University on Oct. 10 for the first time since 2004. Allen became the all-time winningest coach with her 69th victory on Sept. 11 when Texas A&M- Kingsville swept St. Mary s University. One day later, Zaccardo set a new three-set mark in digs with 29 in a sweep of Lubbock Christian University. For her efforts, Zaccardo was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week Sept. 15 after averaging 5.77 digs per set in four matches. Following TAMUK s upset win over the Rambelles, outside hitter Valarie Moehrig was named LSC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying 41 kills in three matches. Moehrig became the first weekly LSC honoree on the offensive side since current graduate assistant coach Kelsey Washington earned the distinction Oct. 8, 2013. The historic season continued as Zaccardo ended the month of October as the first player in school history to surpass the 500 digs mark. Poised to earn a spot in the NCAA South Central Regionals for the first time ever, the Javelinas appeared at No. 7 in the initial South Central Regional rankings. In the LSC Tournament opener versus No. 4 Cameron University, the Javelinas nearly advanced to the semifinals before falling to the Aggies in a five-set thriller. Klobedans was named to the conference all-tournament team and All-LSC first-team after earning co-setter of the year honors in 2014. Faison also appeared on the first-team and Zaccardo was named to the second-team and LSC All-Academic team. The team finished 23rd in NCAA Division II in total attacks (4,748), 28th in team digs (2,257) and 37th in team assists (1,526). Individually, Klobedans was 32nd in total assists (1,283), Zaccardo was 36th in digs (637) and Faison was No. 38 in total attacks (1,256). During the 2014 campaign, the Blue and Gold saw six individuals receive LSC honors as Washington was named to the first-team for the second straight season and Ashley Bukowski, Faison and Stephanie Johns appeared on the second-team. Klobedans and Zaccardo earned honorable mention and Klobedans was selected the league s co-setter of the Year. Also during the year, Zaccardo was selected as the LSC s Defensive Player of the Week on September 30 and Bukowski was twice named to an all-tournament team (Rollins Invitational and Emerald Beach Hotel-Javelina Volleyball Invitational) in the regular season. TAMUK was named the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Student Athlete Advisory Committee Team of the Year for the second consecutive time for all of their community service and outreach. Also picking up school athletic awards were Moehrig (co-saac Representative of the Year) and Washington (Athlete Career Award). Nationally, the team was 13th in blocks per set at 2.38, 18th in total blocks (276.5) and 39th in hitting percentage (.228). Johns ranked No. 36 in total blocks (123) and Ashley Tipps was No. 33 in blocks per set at 1.13. In 2013, three Javelinas were selected All-LSC honors as Washington appeared on the first team and Johns and Dedra Brown earned honorable mention. Washington concluded her junior campaign with 17 double-doubles and also joined an elite list of student-athletes that surpassed 1,000 career kills. Washington was named to the LSC All-Tournament team for her performance in the quarterfinals. Johns, along with her Honorable Mention selection, was named to the University of Anchorage Alaska All-Tournament Team. Both Washington (Offensive) and Johns (Defensive) were selected as LSC Players of the Week on Oct. 8. The Javelinas downed Texas Woman s University Oct. 4 for the first time since 2002 in the friendly confines of the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center. Off the court, the Javelina volleyball program was named the 2014 Texas A&M University-Kingsville Student Athlete Advisory Committee Team of the Year for their community service and outreach. The 2012 campaign featured two All-LSC selections with Washington and Brown earning second team honors. Ali Insell was selected to the LSC All-Academic team and CoSIDA Academic All-District VI First Team. Kalinda Graves appeared on the LSC All-Tournament team for her performance in the conference postseason tourney. As a team, the Hogs finished 13th in the country in digs per set, averaging 18.38. Joining the Javelina coaching staff in 2011, she led TAMUK to a 15-15 season and a spot in the LSC Tournament. Laura Macek set a school record for blocks in a match and Bethany Friesenhahn set a program mark for attack percentage in a match. Washington appeared on the All-LSC second team and Insell was honorable mention. Allen came to the Javelinas after three outstanding seasons as the head coach of the Frank Phillips College volleyball program. There, she earned Western Junior College Athletic Conference Coach of the Year three times and was a two-time NJCAA District V Coach of the Year. In 2011, the American Volleyball Coaches Association chose Allen as a 30-under-30 recipient. Allen posted a 100-30 record in her three seasons at Frank Phillips. She won three WJCAC titles and a pair of NJCAA Region V West Championships. In 2008, she guided the team to an 11th-place finish nationally and a 41-11 overall record. In 2009, her squad finished No. 8 with a 29-13 mark, and in 2010, she guided the team to a 30-6 mark. During her tenure, Allen coached five All-Americans, 11 all-region players and 14 all-conference players. Prior to taking over as the head coach, Allen served one year as an assistant at Frank Phillips. The team went 42-3 and made an appearance in the NJCAA Final Four. Allen played collegiately at New Mexico State where she was a part of two Sun Belt Conference Championship teams, made three NCAA Tournament appearances and went 113-19 in four years. She was a team captain as a senior. She was a three-year starter for the Aggies tallying 791 kills, 730 digs and 127 service aces in her career. She was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All- District VI team on two occasions. At Deming High School, she was named the New Mexico Gatorade Player of the Year. Five of volleyball s student-athletes have been recognized as All-Lone Star Conference first-team performers in the last two seasons, including two-time honorees Lexi Wick and Krystal Faison. The 26 wins TAMUK piled up in 2016 were the most in program history and the Javs also capped the season in the top 10 nationally in kills (1,706), assists (1,602), aces (225) and blocks (298). Payne has also served as an assistant coach for TAMUK s beach volleyball program since its inception, helping lead the team to an American Volleyball Coaches Association National Championship in 2018. The squad totaled 20 wins in their second year and received votes in the DiG Magazine national poll. Payne was also a nominee for the AVCA s assistant coach of the year award. Since 2012, Payne was the coach of the Alamo Volleyball Association. From July 2010-12, Payne coached the San Antonio Force Volleyball National Club. Prior to coming to the Lone Star State, Payne was the volunteer assistant at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and coach of the Nebraska Gold Volleyball Club. He also has experience with the River Valley Volleyball Club and was the head coach at McCook Community College from August 2006-January 2008. A 2001 graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Payne earned his masters of art in education in August 2010. Payne is a veteran who served for the United States Army. Only Tara Grier, who ran up 44 digs on Nov. 3rd, 2007, can claim a better showing for the Blue and Gold. REJECTED! The Javelinas are currently averaging 2.18 blocks per set, second-best in the Lone Star Conference. Tanya Allen s team has surpassed 10 blocks six times in 2018, something they only did four times in 2017, and they re undefeated in those contests. BATTING 1.000 The Javelinas have held six opponents to a hitting percentage under.100 this season, matching the total number of times they accomplished that feat through all of 2017. Unsurprisingly, the Javs are undefeated this season when the accomplish this. SETTING A BENCHMARK Against Texas Woman s on Sept. 14th, freshman Nicole Murff totaled 32 digs. She became the first Javelina to reach 30 digs in a match since Krystal Faison totaled 30 on Sept. 23rd 2016. Murff s total was also the highest by a Javelina since Kalinda Graves totaled 36 in 2012 and tied for the sixthmost in a match in program history. HOLDING COURT AT HOME With their wins over Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin, the Javelinas have now started three straight seasons with consecutive wins at home. Their overall record at the SPEC since 2016 is 23-4. RECORD TRACKER In her first three years in the Blue and Gold, middle blocker Haley Hutchinson racked up 379 total blocks, third-most in program history. So far in 2018, she has 62 rejections, putting her 42 away from the school s career record of 483, which belongs to Ada Ihemelu, who was a Javelina from 1997-99. CAN YOU DIG IT? Junior Sarah Miller has been an immediate contributor for the Javelinas on defense during her first year on the court. In each of her first eight matches, she reached double-figures in digs with a season-high of 18 against Western New Mexico on Sept. 7th. THE.800 CLUB In TAMUK s victory over East Central, Haley Hutchinson posted a scorching kill rate of.800 with eight kills on 10 swings without an error. Hutchinson was the first Javelina to post a percentage that high since Bethany Friesenhahn recorded a percentage of.812 on 10/25/2011. FIRST OFFENSE After being selected to the All-Lone Star Conference first-team following the 2017 regular season, senior Madison Brabham became the first player in program history to be chosen as the LSC s Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The last Javelina to receive a preseason honor was Casey Klobedans, who was chosen as preseason setter of the year in 2015 and 2016. LSC SUCCESS The Javs posted a record of 13-7 in the Lone Star Conference in 2017, one year after going 14-6 in the league. This marked the first time since 1997-98 the Javs record winning records in the conference in consecutive seasons. They will be going for three straight seasons reaching that goal this season, a feat the program hasn t accomplished since 1996-98. JavelinaAthletics.com #GottaJavIt - 7 -
