Danny Bethea opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second, and the Sea Dogs added two runs with back-to-back RBI doubles by Michael Chavis and Jeremy Barfield in the third. Portland stretched the lead to 5-0 in the fifth when Josh Okimey added an RBI single and Chad De La Guerra scored on a wild pitch. The Curve broke the shutout in the seventh with an RBI single by Wyatt Mathisen. The Curve loaded the bases in the inning, but reliever Ty Buttrey struck out Michael Suchy to escape the jam. Portland starter Dedgar Jimenez worked his longest Double-A outing, allowing one run over 6.2 innings to pick up his fourth win in five starts. Ockimey extended Portland's lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the seventh with a run-scoring single. TODAY: The Curve play the finale of a three-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs, Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The Curve won two of three games against the Sea Dogs at PNG Field from June 13-15 in their only other series this season. The Sea Dogs are in a stretch of playing 19 straight games against Western Division opponents, going 11-7 in those games, and have won six of their last nine games overall. The Curve split a four-game series at home against Trenton prior to this series. FOR ALTOONA: Right-hander Mitch Keller makes his third Double-A start for the Curve. He last pitched on Saturday in game one of a double-header against Trenton, allowing two runs over six innings with nine strikeouts. He allowed his only runs on a two-out, two-run single by Ryan McBroom in the sixth. He made his Double-A debut on August 6 at Trenton, allowing two runs over six innings. Keller is currently ranked as the Pirates' No. 2 prospect, the No. 22 prosect in baseball and the No. 6 RHP prospect by MLB.com. He went 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA over his last three starts with. Last season, Keller went 9-5 with a 2.35 ERA over 24 total starts and was named as MiLB.com's fans' choice Top Breakout Prospect of the Year and the South Atlantic League's Most Outstanding Pitcher. For more on Keller, see page two. FOR PORTLAND: Left-hander Trey Ball makes his 21st start and 22nd overall appearance of the year for the Sea Dogs. Last time out, he allowed four earned runs over 4.1 innings in a loss at Bowie on Friday. He has faced the Curve once this season, allowing five earned runs over four innings in a loss at PNG Field on June 15. The Curve knocked eight hits and reached on five walks against Ball in that outing. In six games (five starts) since July 14, Ball has gone 2-3 with an 8.88 ERA (24 ER/24.1 IP). Ball was an Arizona Fall League Rising Stars selection in 2016. He was drafted by the Red Sox in the first round in 2013. EAST FEAST: The Curve are playing their 13th of 19 consecutive games against the Eastern League Eastern Division. Overall, 26 of the 30 games from July 24-August 23 are against teams from the East. Since July 24, the Curve have gone 10-9 against the opposite division. For the season, the Curve are 23-17 when facing the Eastern Division, including a 15-11 mark at home and an 8-6 record on the road. STARTING IMPROVEMENT: Over the last 42 games since July 3, Curve starting pitchers have combined to go 15-10 with a 3.42 ERA (90 ER/236.2 IP), an improvement over the previous 79 starts, when the starters combined to go 18-26 with a 4.63 ERA. In that span, Alex McRae is 3-1 with a 3.35 ERA (14 ER/37.2 IP) as a starter, J.T. Brubaker is 3-1 with a 3.83 ERA (17 ER//40.0 IP), Austin Coley is 3-2 with a 3.26 ERA (18 ER/49.2), Mitch Keller is 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA (4 ER/12 IP), Brandon Waddell is 2-1 with a 4.12 ERA (9 ER/19.2 IP), Casey Sadler is 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA (12 ER/23.0 IP) as a starter and Tanner Anderson is 2-1 with a 2.65 ERA (10 ER/34.0) in starts. CLOSE CALLS: The Curve have gone 14-13 in their last 27 games, and seven of those losses have been by one run. Their last 13 losses since July 18 have been by an average of 1.9 runs (25 runs/13 games). The Curve have played 46 one-run games this year, the most in the Eastern League, and have posted a 22-24 record in those games. RETURN OF THE JIN-DE: After missing the first six weeks of the season, catcher Jin-De Jhang was batting.184 in 31 games prior to July 8, Since then, he has hit.270 (27/100) in 27 games with three home runs, four doubles and 17 RBIs. He picked up five RBIs on August 3, the most for a Curve player in a game this year. Behind the plate, he has thrown out 47.4 percent (18/38) of base stealing attempts this season, the best in the Eastern League this season of catchers with at least 35 attempts against him. C-N-O: Reliever Tate Scioneaux has held opposing batters to a.199 average, fourth-best in the league among relievers. Scioneaux is tied for second in the league with 40 appearances, has the second-lowest BB/9 IP ratio (1.58) and has allowed the fourth-fewest baserunners (8.28/9 IP). Scioneaux has the second-best ERA (1.92) out of all relievers in the league with at least 50 innings pitched. The team record for saves in a single season is 49, which the Curve posted in 2006. Montana DuRapau (14) and Tate Scioneaux (12) are the third duo of relievers in franchise history to individually record double-digit saves in a single season. Jhondaniel Medina (12) and Yhonathan Barrios (10) accomplished the feat in 2015, as did Jeff Miller (18) and Elio Serrano (14) in 2004.
