P A G E 5 Safety Education Not All Boating Accidents Happen on the Water Edelgard Rieder, S E Chair ST PPED BY THE OR COAST GUARD OR OTHER WATER POLICE LIFEGUARD UNITS, BE POLITE AND EXPLAIN YOUR When it comes to trailered boats nine out of ten trailering malfunctions accidents can be directly traced back to a failure to dedicate some time to the most basic preventative maintenance. Wheel bearings, suspension parts, lights, a host of other components require constant attention to keep any trailering trip smooth hassle free. Special attention to the tow vehicle's hitch is a good idea, as that is the only link between the tow vehicle trailer. Also consider the fact that one needs a special license classification to drive things like motorcycles, school busses vehicles with air brakes like semi-trailer trucks, gravel trucks, etc. But just about anyone can go out buy a $30,000 boat trailer, attach it to his/her car simply drive away. No special training is required beforeh no special license classification Anyone who has ever hauled a boat around for a number of years knows that it may not be too difficult to drive in a straight line at low speeds. But when it comes to things like driving at highway speeds, passing other vehicles, high winds, backing up, etc... the task becomes much more challenging than one might think. Ladies Bingo Saturday, February 13, 2016 Beautiful sunny unseasonably warm weather made the meeting at the home of Joe Jane Palmiotti a wonderful experience. RECREATION BOATERS OF CALIFORNIA (RBOC) All boaters in California should be aware of what is happening in Sacramento. Several bills are being considered that may affect us. You can follow these developments by looking at www.rboc.org. There is great concern about the hyacinth growing in the channels of the Sacramento delta. Another issue concerns invasive species in many lakes. Yet another item of great interest is clean water in our harbors. Clean water concerns including debris in the waters showed up in several bills. And don t forget the ongoing battle against bottom paint. P/C Gary Hall
