Competitive Sports Programme 2015 2016 Colin Morris Director of Sport Kings School Al Barsha Jill Oliver Head of Physical Education

What does the Director of Sport role mean? Structure Develop a sporting culture at Kings where students can enjoy, compete, learn and succeed Levels of Coaching Coaching Provision Sporting Programmes Yr 3 Yr 13 Facilities External Provision Competition Opportunities: DASSA, BSME, International Tours I ve got a theory that if you give 100% all of the time, somehow things will work out in the end. Larry Bird

Ensuring the programme is effective on the ground Jill Oliver: Head of Curriculum PE and Sport - Kings School Dubai Establishing the sports development philosophy Ensuring every child matters Provision of sport across the year at Kings Dubai Opportunities and involvement in competition Website development and communication to parents Managing the team of staff at Kings School Dubai You don t inspire your teammates by showing them how amazing you are. You inspire them by showing them how amazing they are

What can you expect from the PE Team and Sports Coaches Effective teachers that possess the skill to make the sport relevant, appropriate and enjoyable to the children in their care Knowledge and an appreciation of the effect that age, stage and level of development have on your child Understanding of individual children in their squad, such as the areas in which they require support and the best methods for helping them develop and learn through their sport An approachable and professional manner

What do we expect from the children... A commitment to their squad and team mates Attend all training sessions Attend all competitive fixtures Show positivity, perseverance and confidence in themselves and their team Communicate with their coach/teacher Be an ambassador for Kings School Dubai Persistence supersedes talent, genetics and luck. There can be no true success without it

What do we expect from supporting parents? Sport is a wonderful equalizer and a very efficient tool to ensure inclusion. It can certainly place everyone on a level playing field

What do we expect from supporting parents? How would you expect a visiting parent to behave at your child's school? How would expect another adult to speak to your child? When is it appropriate to talk to the teacher in charge? Who should your child be listening to during games and training sessions? How can your behaviour allow the coaches and children to achieve their best? when a parent shows up with an attitude of entitlement, understand that under it is a boatload of anxiety.

Competitive Competitions 2015-2016 It is our intention to enter the majority, if not all, of the DASSA Sports Leagues throughout the 2015/16 season... Term 1 Term 2 Term 3 Boys Football Contact Rugby Basketball Girls Football Touch Rugby Rounders Cross Country Athletics Cricket Netball Swimming Swimming Swimming We will also enter one off/stand alone events, should we have sufficient interest, in other non league sports such as Tennis, Golf, Skiing, Biathlon You can t put a limit on anything, the more you dream the further you get Michael Phelps

External opportunities in the pipeline Hamilton Aquatics Spanish Soccer School ASA Golf Fencing Outdoor Education Sailing Dance Diving Horse Riding My attitude is that if you push me towards a weakness, I will turn that weakness into a strength. Michael Jordan.

Kings Dubai School Sports Website Launch www.kingsdubaisport.com The new School Sports Website is our main form of communication. Here you will find all the information regarding fixtures, match reports, team sheets, sports calendar dates and much more. We will continue to send updates via the communicator but we will not be sending individual letters to children from this point forwards. It is vital that you save this website and use it as your first point of reference for all sport specific information. You can view, save and even print the calendar with the fixture dates for your child's sports team. We recommend you do this and ensure their schedule is kept free for them to participate. Should you need to contact a member of the PE team please use the contact form, also found online, with their contact email address.
