March was yet another fun filled, action packed month for the Fannin County 4-H Program! At the beginning of the month, 12 members competed at the District IV Food Challenge in Dallas and all were successful! The Junior team won the Spirit Award with their adorable cow printed aprons, as well as 3rd April Showers place in the Challenge. The Intermediate team won 4th place and the Senior team won 6th place! We then ended the month we the Fannin County Roundup Contest. We had four talented individuals compete and will all advance to District Spring Roundup in April. Kate Kincade and Danielle Berg competed in Vocal division of the Share- The-Fun. Joel Aukes competed in Solo division of Share-The- Fun and Dacie Bradley competed in Educational Presentation.. Finally, we had our annual photography contest. Once again, we always appreciate all the leaders and volunteers for their time and effort working with our members! We have another equally busy and fun-filled month ahead of us! 4-H Clover Fundraiser Piney Woods Conservation Adventure Camp D4 Spring Roundup Schedule Check Out this Project 5 5 8 The Spring 2016 Paper Clover Fundraiser will be from April 13 24th. We will be having a booth out at Tractor s Supply on Saturday, April 23 from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM. We will have a Chain Saw as a giveaway award through the Fundraiser. Randy Arris Jr. is the main leader on the Fundraiser. Please contact Randy Arris Jr. about your time to work the fundraiser booth.

The camp will be held at College Station during Texas 4-H Roundup from June 6 9, 2016. The goal of the Texas 4-H Veterinary Science Camp is to provide experiential learning opportunities for students participating in the Veterinary Science Certification Program. Students will learn and practice clinical skills on large and small animals, while under the supervision of a veterinarian. The cost for this camp is $150.00 and registration will open April 15 and close May 20, 2016. This camp will be limited to the first 20 members, aged 11 18 to register.. BIJKTZadefghjlmoq80

National 4-H Congress will be Thursday, November 24th through Tuesday, November 29th at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta in Georgia. National 4- H Congress is the flagship event of the National 4-H program. Each year a National Design Team of Extension educators, 4-H youth, and 4-H adult volunteers analyze National 4-H Congress current youth issues and determine the most effective ways to address them. The program combines a variety of fun and exciting educational, recreational and networking opportunities. The program combines sessions, seminars, discussion groups, and a service learning experience. The nation s most outstanding community leaders, speakers, and educators present the most current and timely information available. Applications will be available until April 15. District IV Horse Judging Contest On Tuesday, April 19, 2016, Fannin County will have 4-H members travel to Gainesville, TX to compete in the District IV Horse Judging Contest hoping to advance to the State Horse Judging Contest. Their project leader is Cody Maxwell. The participants will judge two to four halter classes and four to six performance classes. Three or four sets of oral reasons are required. District IV Livestock Judging On Saturday, April 23, 2016 4- H members of Fannin County will be traveling to College Station to compete in the District Livestock Judging Competition with their project leader Krystal Otwell. They have been meeting weekly since November practicing for this event. Members will have to judge eight classes, an assortment between market cattle, breeding cattle, market sheep, breeding sheep, market goats, breeding goats, market swine and breeding swine.

P a g e 4 F a n n i n 4 - H F l a s h V o l u m e 1, I s s u e 7 4-H Outdoor Challenge The Texas 4-H Outdoor Challenge will be held June 17-19 this summer at the Seguin Outdoor Learning Center. Registration will be open from May 1 May 29. The following events will be held this year: Shotgun Rifle Archery Fishing Climbing Kayaking Outdoor Skills Biologist Skills Gear Judging Outdoor Safety J.T. Woodson Scholarship In honor of J.T. Woodson, Fannin County Farm Bureau is offering a scholarship to a graduating senior who is interested in an agriculture related career. If interested please complete the J.T. Woodson Scholarship and return it to the Fannin County Farm Bureau office by May 1, 2016 3-D Archery Tournament in Cooke County Cooke County is hosting a 4-H 3- D Archery Tournament on May 28, 2016. Check in will begin at 8:00 A.M. and the competition will start at 9:00 A.M. There is a $20.00 registration fee per bow. The adult class will be limited to coaches, parents, and/or guardians of 4-H members. There will be an outdoor 10- target 3-D course at varying yardages for all ages, and a field 5-target course. A total of 30 arrows will be shot for this tournament. Bonham 4-H Club Food Show Program The Bonham 4-H Club will be hosting a food show program on Aprill11, 2016 starting at 6:00 P.M. located at the Bonham Housing Authority. They are asking that you brig your favorite macaroni dish and be prepared to give a one-minute presentation about how you made it and why you like the recipe. Feel free to bring sweets or snacks as well.

V o l u m e 1, I s s u e 7 F a n n i n 4 - H F l a s h P a g e 5 Youth Range Workshop At the Texas Section Society for Range Management Youth Range Workshop, participants gain useful knowledge and skills in the areas of ecology, inventory practices, management and evaluation of resources. Experts from across the state are recruited to teach the participants in fields ranging from watershed management, to prescribed burning, to soil health, and many areas in between. Additionally, youth are trained in the areas of public speaking, advocacy, and leadership so that they are armed with the knowledge they need to effectively educate others in the area of rangeland management. The workshop is open to youth who are 14-18 year old, and have completed the 8th grade, but have not graduated from high school. Registration is due by May 31, 2016. Piney Woods Conservation Adventure Camp The Piney Woods Conservation Adventure Camp will be held from July 12 15, 2016 in Jasper County in and around Lake Sam Rayburn. This camp is open to senior age 4-H members from across Texas. This 4 day camp will focus on the conservation ecology of natural resources in east Texas. What will make this camp unique is that the kids can select from a wildlife or a fisheries track. The first two days of the camp will keep all youth together covering the basics and the final two days youth will break into their track of choice for advanced education and handson activities. In addition to all the education and activities, youth will have one-on-one interaction time with the agencies involved should they want to consider a natural resource career path. We are extremely proud and excited to announce that we have 25 4-H members going to compete in the District 4 Spring Roundup in April. We will have three teams competing in D4 Spring Roundup Consumer Decision Making Contest,. Two members competing in Share-the-Fun vocal and one Share-the- Fun in band/solo division. One member presenting in Educational Presentation. Two teams in Horse Quiz bowl and one team in Beef Quiz Bowl competition. Good luck to everyone competing at Districts!

This month s 4-H Project of interest is: Consumer Education Do you like to shop? Learn how to save money while shopping in the consumer decision making project! You will learn how to compare prices, test for quality and make purchases based on facts and research. You will also improve your money management skills, smart purchasing skills and Check Out This Project! decision making skills! This is a great project for any member from 3rd grade up Consumer Decision Making until 12th grade! The contest is based on the skills of consumer observation, comparison, and the ability to make a fact-based purchases. Each participant is expected to defend their purchases to a panel of judges. This contest is held at the district level and at 4-H Roundup. Livestock shows such as the San Antonio Livestock Exposition and San Angelo Stock Show also offer a consumer decision making contest too.
