The Tigers are 5-0 at home this season and are led in scoring by 5-foot-10 sophomore Camille Glymph (11.6 ppg). Sophomore Tyrese Tanner average 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds, while 6-foot guard Parrisha Simmons contributes a team-high 6.5 rebounds per contest. Rebounding could be a concern for Purdue as the Tigers average 42.5 rebounds a game, including 15.8 rpg on the offensive glass. Auburn head coach Nell Fortner is in her eighth season with the Tigers. She spent one year as the Boilermakers head coach before taking over as the U.S. National Team head coach. She also spent three seasons as the head coach of the Indiana Fever. The Series This is the fourth meeting between Purdue and Auburn and the Boilermakers hold a 2-1 edge in the series. In the first matchup, the 11th-ranked Boilermakers defeated No. 5 Auburn 61-57 on Dec. 7, 1989, in Mackey Arena. The following season, No. 7 Auburn triumphed over No. 3 Purdue 75-65 on Jan. 5, 1991, at the Big Ten/SEC Challenge in Iowa City, Iowa. Purdue won the last meeting, 76-56 on Dec. 18, 2010, in Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis as part of a double-header with the Purdue men s team in the Boilermaker Blockbuster. In that contest, Drey Mingo made an unexpected return to the court, missing just four games due to her battle with bacterial meningitis. Mingo logged two minutes and scored two points (on two made free throws) and pulled down a rebound. Purdue Vs. The SEC Purdue is 21-16 all time against SEC opponents, including a 2-1 record vs. Auburn. The Boilermakers are undefeated against Arkansas (2-0), Florida (3-0), Kentucky (2-0), Mississippi State (2-0) and South Carolina (2-0). Purdue has an even series record against Georgia (1-1), LSU (2-2) and Mississippi (1-1) but the Boilermakers trail Tennessee (1-7) and Vanderbilt (3-4). Last Time Out Brittany Rayburn scored a season-high 25 points for Purdue, but it was not enough as Central Michigan upset No. 12 Purdue 75-62. Purdue, which was coming off a loss to No. 3 Notre Dame just 24 hours earlier, led 37-28 at halftime and got up by 12 points in the second period. However, the Chippewas outscored the Boilermakers 47-25 in the second half, including a 21-6 run in the last 7:06. They shot 14 for 24 from the field, including 6 of 9 from three-point range in the second period and outrebounded Purdue 46-30, including 24-10 after halftime. Central Michigan s 75 points were the most given up by the Boilermakers this season. KK Houser added 11 points and Sam Ostarello 10 points for Purdue, which shot 40 percent from the field (25 for 62), including 3 of 14 from beyond the arc. Next Up The Boilermakers have three-straight home games starting with Oakland on Dec. 20 at noon followed by IPFW on Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. Big Ten action gets started on Dec. 30 against Minnesota at 7 p.m. Scoring Leader Not only has senior Brittany Rayburn led Purdue in scoring the last two seasons with averages of 14.6 ppg (sophomore) and 14.4 ppg (junior), but with 1,444 points she also is second among active Big Ten players for career points, trailing only Ohio State s Preseason Player of the Year candidate Samantha Prahalis. Rayburn leads the Boilermakers in scoring so far this season with an average of 15.1 ppg and through 10 games, is shooting a career-best 43.3 percent (52-of- 120) from the field, including 41.2 percent (21-of-51) from three-point range. The Attica, Ind,. native has hit two or more threes in seven games this season. Against Tulane, Rayburn knocked down 5-of-8 three-pointers, her highest number of threes since the 2009-10 season and she followed that up with five threes at Duke. Moses Provides Scoring Punch Sophomore guard Courtney Moses has led Purdue in scoring three times this season. She is Purdue s second leading scorer, averaging 10.0 points per game after averaging 11.7 ppg as the Boilermakers starting point guard as a freshman last season. Moses set Purdue s freshman record for three-pointers a year ago with 54, connecting on

40.9 percent of her attempts from long range and 42.3 percent overall from the field. The Sweetser, Ind., native has gotten off to a slower start from the field this season but made 3-of-5 threes against Texas A&M en route to a game-high 15 points. Moses has started every game she has played this year, in fact, the only game of her career that she did not start was the very first one as a freshman. This season, Moses missed the Kansas State game due to concussion symptoms. More Guard Play Redshirt sophomore guard KK Houser is Purdue s third leading scorer with an 8.7 ppg average. She is leading the team in assists (31) and steals (24) while splitting time between the point guard and two-guard spots. The trouble spot for the redshirt sophomore has been turnovers, she is averaging 4.7 miscues a game. Houser missed last year with an ACL tear that occurred four minutes into the first contest of the season. One year and one day from her ACL injury, the 5-foot-6 guard tied her career high with a game-high 18 points against IUPUI. The Lincoln, Neb., native also set a career best with six steals while pulling down four rebounds and dishing out three assists in the 75-45 victory. Houser had an impressive night against Chicago State with a career-high seven assists to go along with 11 points, five steals and her first career block. Stingy Defense By holding opponents to 36.6 percent from the field last season, the Boilermakers tied the second-lowest opponent season field goal percentage in school history. So far this season, Purdue has limited opponents to 33.4 percent from the floor which is second in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers have held opponents to an average of 53.2 points per game - tops in the conference - and have held seven opponents to 53 points or less this season. The most points Purdue has given up in a game was the last time out when Central Michigan recorded a 75-62 upset. Block Party Purdue is 15th nationally in blocked shots per game at 6.1 per game as of Dec. 11. Purdue tied a school record with 13 blocks against Chicago State. Chelsea Jones leads Purdue with 17 blocked shots this season while Sam Ostarello is second with 15 blocks. Speaking Of Defense Six-foot-four center Chelsea Jones went against two of the top centers in the country and her defense against them was outstanding. Jones held No. 6 Duke s leading scorer Elizabeth Williams to 2-of-17 from the field and followed that up by limiting Texas A&M s leading scorer, Kelsey Bone to 4-of-11 from the field. After recording three blocks against Duke, Jones blocked four shots against the Aggies. The Texas A&M game was Jones best overall performance this season, with a season-high nine points, six rebounds, four blocks and a steal. In the 64-53 loss at No. 7/6 Duke, Purdue was outrebounded 50-32. The last time Purdue gave up 50 rebounds or more was twice in the 2008-09 season, allowing 51 rebounds to No. 5 Stanford on Nov. 28 and 51 at home to Michigan State on Jan. 1. Both were overtime games. Rebounding Woes In its three losses, the Boilermakers have been outrebounded 143-94, an average of a 16.3 rebound per game deficit. In its seven wins, Purdue holds a 197-139 rebounding edge, an average of +8.3 rebounds per game. Speaking Of Rebounding Sam Ostarello led the Boilermakers in rebounding as a freshman with a 5.0 rpg average. As a junior, with the absence of Drey Mingo, she has stepped up her game with a team-leading 6.9 rebounds per game. The Pierre, S.D., native recorded 10 boards against Tulane and Kansas State and a season-high 12 rebounds against Texas A&M. Moses has hit 10 three-pointers so far this season. - Moses is seventh at Purdue in career three-point field goal percentage at 37.2 percent (64-of-172). Tough Stretch The contest against No. 3 Notre Dame was Purdue s third-consecutive against a top-10 opponent and gave the Boilermakers a 1-2 record against those teams. The Boilermakers started the stretch with a 64-53 loss at No. 7/6 Duke on Dec. 1, and then knocked off No. 4 Texas A&M 60-51 on Dec. 4. It was just the fourth time in school history that the Boilermakers have played three-straight games against top-10 opponents, just the third time it has happened in the regular season. The last time it occurred, top-ranked Purdue beat No. 9 Rutgers, No. 3 Louisiana Tech and No. 10 Duke for the 1999 NCAA national championship. In Dec. of 1995, No. 7 Purdue went 0-3 when facing No. 3 Tennessee and No. 8 Colorado before playing No. 2 Tennessee (when ranked 10th), six days after the first matchup. The first time in happened was in the 1992-93 season, unranked Purdue lost to No. 5 Penn State, No. 7 Ohio State and No. 3 Iowa. Last season, the Boilermakers had three-consecutive games against top-25 opponents (No. 22 Maryland, No. 16 Notre Dame and No. 7 Texas A&M) and had to play all three without Drey Mingo who had contracted bacterial meningitis on Nov. 22. Boiler Crunch The greater Lafayette community stepped up in response to the Purdue women s basketball team s community service project to benefit the Food Finders Backpack program, with over 1,300 boxes of breakfast cereal collected. Donations to the Boiler Crunch Cereal Drive were accepted at Purdue s home games against Texas A&M and Notre Dame as well as at drop boxes at the University Bookstore on Northwestern Ave., and area Lafayette Marsh and Payless supermarkets. A presentation of the results of the food drive will be made to representatives of Food Finders at halftime of Tuesday s game against Oakland. In addition, over 1,500 elementary school children are expected to attend Tuesday s contest as part of Elementary School Field Trip Day. It Doesn t Happen Often Purdue s 46-42 overtime victory over Kansas State marked just the second time in school history that the Boilermakers had scored 49 points or less and won. The last time it had happened was vs. Kentucky (48-40) on Dec. 18, 1999. Purdue s overall record when scoring 49 or less is 2-46. You Can Say That Again Purdue s 66-38 loss to Notre Dame on Dec. 10 was just the ninth time in school history that the Boilermakers have failed to score at least 40 points. Purdue is 0-9 all time in games in which it scores 39 points or less. Against the Irish, the Boilermakers shot just 24.1 percent, the fifthworst shooting performance in program history. Mingo Expected to Miss Season Redshirt senior forward Drey Mingo tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee on Oct. 29 in a closed scrimmage at Indiana State. She underwent surgery to repair the ligament on Nov. 28 and is expected to miss the season. Head Coach Sharon Versyp Former Purdue point guard, Sharon Versyp is in her sixth season as head coach of the Boilermakers. She has a 118-62 record at Purdue and a career mark of 235-127 in 12 seasons as a collegiate head coach. Versyp has led the Boilermakers to two Big Ten Tournament championships (2007 and 2008) and to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight twice (2007 and 2009). Versyp was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in April of 2010. First Time For Everything The technical foul on Coach Versyp early in the second half against Texas A&M - with the Boilermakers down 37-29 - was Versyp s first as Purdue s head coach. Purdue outscored the Aggies 31-14 after Versyp was whistled for the technical. Notes From The Texas A&M Contest - Purdue last defeated a top-five ranked team Jan. 25, 2010, when the unranked Boilermakers knocked off No. 4 Ohio State 63-61 in Mackey Arena. - Purdue last defeated a top-five ranked non-conference opponent Jan. 5, 2009, when the unranked Boilermakers defeated No. 4 Texas 66-55 in Mackey Arena. - Purdue last beat a defending national champion Dec. 6, 2001, when ranked No. 7 they defeated unranked Notre Dame 70-57 in Mackey Arena. - Purdue s last win against a ranked opponent was last season against No. 20 Iowa, 60-41, on Feb. 3, in Mackey. - Purdue s defense forced Texas A&M to record multiple season-low statistics. The Aggies 51 points was 20 points lower than their previous season low of 71. They also made 17 field goals, 11 less than their previous low of 28. Their shooting percentage of.283 eclipsed than their previous low of.413 and the Aggies tied their season low with just 10 steals. Home Sweet Home In games played in Mackey Arena this season, Purdue is 4-1. Last year s 14 home wins was the most since Purdue went 16-0 at home in 2002-03. Purdue has won at least 12 home games each of the last six seasons. Miss Basketball The Boilermakers have five former Miss Basketball honorees on their bench, including head coach Sharon Versyp who was the first Indiana Miss Basketball to play at Purdue. Brittany Rayburn is the seventh and Courtney Moses the eighth Indiana Miss Basketball to don the Old Gold and Black. KK Houser was Nebraska s Miss Basketball as a senior and Sam Ostarello earned the Miss Basketball title for South Dakota in her senior season. Preseason Prognostication The Boilermakers were picked No. 2 behind Penn State by both the Big Ten coaches and the media panel in the conference preseason poll. Purdue is ranked in both major college women s basketball polls, No. 22 by the Associated Press and the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. It was the first time since 2008 that Purdue was ranked in the preseason by the AP. The Boilermakers were ranked No. 23 in the 2009 coaches preseason poll. Experience Counts Purdue has five seniors on the active roster and four of five starters back from last year s 21-12 team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Strong Start The Boilermakers s 6-0 record was the best start to a season since going 6-0 in coach Versyp s first year at Purdue in 2006-07. Conference Challenges The Big Ten recorded the most wins in its history during the fifth annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge, as the two conferences battled to a 6-6 split. The 2011 Big 12/ Big Ten Challenge is tied, 4-4. The series will continue when Wisconsin travels to face Kansas on Thursday and Michigan State travels to Texas on Saturday before Illinois and Texas Tech conclude the series on Dec. 17. The Big Ten is looking for its second victory in as many seasons after having won 7-5 last year. With the 60-51 victory against Texas A&M, Purdue is 1-1 in the Big 12/Big Ten Challenge. Program Milestone Purdue recorded its 700th victory in women s basketball against UT Martin on Nov. 20. Since the inaugural 1975-76 season, the Boilermakers have compiled a record of 704 wins versus 381 losses. Sharon Versyp was the head coach for another of Purdue s milestones, the 600th win which came at Iowa (68-58) on Jan. 3, 2007. CLASS Act Brittany Rayburn is one of 30 NCAA Division I women s basketball players nominated for Lowe s Senior CLASS Award. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Rayburn has led the Boilermakers in scoring the last two seasons. Redmon To Sit Out Sophomore Camille Redmon will sit out this season after transferring from Grayson County College. An NCAA qualifier out of high school, Redmon signed with Kansas State but only attended summer school there before transferring to Grayson County where she played as a freshman. The 6-foot-4 forward will have three years of eligibility starting next season. Team Captains Seniors Drey Mingo, Brittany Rayburn and Samantha Woods were chosen as team captains this season. Putting The Student In Student-Athlete The Purdue women s basketball team does not shy away from challenging majors. Seniors Chelsea Jones and Drey Mingo both are majoring in biology with plans to attend medical school after graduation. Senior Brittany Rayburn and sophomore transfer Camille Redmon are both animal sciences majors, and Rayburn plans to attend vet school when her basketball career ends. Senior Samantha Woods is majoring in chemical engineering with a concentration in entrepreneurship. Junior Sam Ostarello is pursuing a major in movement and sport sciences and a minor in forensics while sophomore Courtney Moses plans to major in applied exercise and health with a concentration as a health exercise specialist. Moses Hits Game Winner At Bowling Green State, the Falcons held a 53-52 lead with 14 seconds left, but Courtney Moses hit the game winning shot on play you see more often on the playground than in NCAA competition. Moses had the ball out of bounds under Purdue s basket and astutely recognized that all five defenders had their backs to her, so passed the ball off the back of player in the middle of Bowling Green 2-3 zone, retrieved the ball inbounds and scored the layup for a 54-53 victory. Cancun Take-Two Purdue had to cancel its trip to last year s Caribbean Challenge hosted by Triple Crown Sports outside of Cancun, Mexico, when Drey Mingo was hospitalized the night before the team s scheduled departure with a life-threatening case of bacterial meningitis. Mingo missed four games last year after her illness and has sustained partial hearing loss. The team rescheduled the tournament for this season, but unfortunately, although Mingo made the trip, she was on the sidelines due to an ACL injury. 2012 Recruiting Class For the sixth-straight year, the Boilermakers have inked a top 15 recruiting class. Hayden Hamby, a 5-foot-7 guard from Trinity, Ala.; Taylor Manuel, a 6-foot-3 forward from St. Louis, Mo.; Joslyn Massey, a 6-foot forward from Detroit, Mich., and April Wilson, a 5-foot-7 point guard from Louisville, Ky., all signed National Letters of Intent in the early signing period and will join the Boilermakers in the fall of 2012. HoopGurlz ranked the class 13th nationally while the All-Star Girls Report has the class at No. 17. Where Are You From? Purdue has 14 players from eight difference states on this year s roster, including four who are the first from their home states to don the Old Gold and Black: Chelsea Jones (Arkansas), KK Houser (Nebraska), Sam Ostarello (South Dakota) and Chantel Poston (Tennessee). There are six Boilermakers from Indiana, including two former Indiana Miss Basketballs - Brittany Rayburn and Courtney Moses. Liza Clemons, Alex Guyton, Torrie Thornton and Dee Dee Williams are also from the Hoosier state. Antionette Howard and Drey Mingo are from Georgia, Camille Redmon is from Texas and Samantha Woods hails from Illinois. 2011 European Tour The Purdue women s basketball team went 3-0 during its 10-day trip to Europe Aug. 5 to 15, 2011. The Boilermakers were able to hold 10 practices in preparation for the first international tour under head coach Sharon Versyp and all three wins came against competition in the Czech Republic. The team spent five days in the Czech Republic, two in Slovakia and three in Austria and sightseeing included a tour of Prague, including the Prague Castle and the Old Town section of the city, a boat tour of the Vitava River, a tour of the Moser Glass Factory in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, a visit to the Terezin Concentration Camp, a tour of the Bratislava Castle in Slovakia, along with the Schonbrunn Palace, Prater Amusement Park and bus tour in Vienna, Austria. Among Nation s Best In Attendance Purdue fans loyal support makes Mackey Arena a tough place to play and has put the Boilermakers in the top 10 in national attendance for 16-straight seasons. Purdue finished eighth in attendance last year after threeconsecutive years at No. 5. The Boilermakers have won at least 12 home games each of the last six seasons. A Tradition Of Success The Purdue women s basketball team is among the elite programs in the country. Its tradition includes an NCAA Tournament title (1999) and a total of three Final Four appearances (1994, 1999, 2001). The Boilermakers are the only Big Ten school to have won a national championship in women s basketball. Purdue has appeared in the NCAA Tournament a total of 21 times, all in the last 23 years. The Boilermakers have advanced to the Sweet 16 on 12 occasions, the Elite Eight eight times (twice under Versyp) and hold a 17-1 record in NCAA Tournament first-round games. The only first-round loss was in 1996. Purdue has won seven Big Ten regular season titles and a conferencebest seven Big Ten Tournament championships (two under Versyp). Sharon Versyp, a former Boilermaker point guard, has led Purdue to two Big Ten Tournament championships and two NCAA Tournament Elite Eight appearances in her five seasons as the head coach at her alma mater. At Purdue, she has averaged 22 wins per season, including a 17-7 record in the postseason. Versyp signed a contract extension that will secure her presence on the Boilermaker sidelines through the 2016-17 season. Versyp s impact on basketball in the Hoosier state was recognized on April 24, 2010, when she was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility, an honor that includes Larry Bird and John Wooden. The Mishawaka, Ind., native is known for her prowess in defense, game preparation, individual player development and team building. Recruiting is a key to success and Versyp and her staff have proven that they can attract elite players to Purdue. Each of Versyp s five signing classes has been ranked in the top 15. Equally impressive to the on-court accolades are the team s academic achievements under Versyp s guidance. For three-straight years, the Boilermakers earned a team GPA of 3.10 or better. In 2010-11, Versyp guided a team without any seniors to a 21-12 record and the second round of the NCAA Tournament. An extremely promising season, turned into one filled with unprecedented adversity. First, starting point guard, KK Houser suffered an ACL injury four minutes into the first regular-season game. Then, less than 48 hours after Purdue captured its second Preseason WNIT championship under Versyp, starting forward Drey Mingo was hospitalized with a life-threatening case of bacterial meningitis. Mingo would rebound from her illness and was a key along with Brittany Rayburn and Courtney Moses in Purdue s late season success. Along the way, Versyp claimed her 100th victory at Purdue with a 65-64 win over Michigan on Jan. 6. Versyp returned to her alma mater as Purdue s eighth head coach on April 10, Page 6 - Purdue Women s Basketball Game Notes Head Coach Sharon Versyp - Sixth Year at Purdue - School Record 118-64 (56-30 Big Ten) Career Record 235-129 (65-37 Big Ten) 2006. Versyp, a former Boilermaker point guard, as a player led her teams to three consecutive winning seasons when the program had enjoyed only one winning campaign in the previous 10 years. In her first year as head coach at Purdue, Versyp compiled a 31-6 record that included a second-place finish in the Big Ten regular season, a Big Ten Tournament title and an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight. Versyp was named the 2007 WBCA Region VI Coach of the Year. Versyp s win percentage in 2006-07 of 83.8 percent (31-6) was tops for a first-year coach. The 31 wins equals the second-most in school history and Versyp is the only firstyear head coach to achieve a 30-win record. Versyp was the head coach at Indiana prior to Purdue, where she led her team to a 19-14 season, 9-7 in the Big Ten and the quarterfinals of the post-season WNIT. The nine-game improvement was the second largest turn-around in school history for a first-year head coach. Prior to her stint with the Hoosiers, Versyp was the head coach at Maine for five seasons where she amassed a 98-51 record, including a 67-19 America East Conference record. Versyp s teams won three straight America East regular season championships (2003, 2004, 2005) and in 2004 also won the America East Tournament title earning an NCAA Tournament berth.
