I hope everyone had a wonderful break! As enjoyable as it was, it is also nice to get back into a regular routine :) I would like to thank our wonderful parent community for being so positively involved in the many happenings in our school. I had mentioned during our Christmas presentation that there is a lot of heart at WES, and this is indicative to the many ways our parents help contribute to our school. Thank you! There is a note in this newsletter about ensuring that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. Please ensure that your child has all the needed gear to head outside during recess times to enjoy our beautiful mountainous backyard. Having said this, Mme. Whittick and Mrs. Hatalcik have organized a wide spectrum of activities with our Leadership Club students during these recess times. WES Active Recess provides our entire student body with many active options to participate in if students would like to stay indoors and try something new. From basketball and art to Yoga and origami, there is lots happening each day for our students! I hope you have been finding our newsletters informative and helpful. They are definitely a whole staff contribution, but I would really like to thank Mrs. Nelson for doing such an excellent job organizing all the submissions and putting everything together so nicely! Please take a thorough read through each addition so you are aware of what is happening and upcoming at WES! Thanks, Mr. Joe Baron Please check the lost and found bin Please make sure to send a plate, bowl, cup and cutlery. Thank you! TOBY CREEK NORDIC SKI CLUB SKI S KOOL PROGRAM The Toby Creek Nordic Ski Club returned to WES January 2th for our Grade 2/3 class to participate in multi-day ski lessons provided in the school field. Volunteers, coaches and athletes accompany the cross-country ski equipment to our school and provide on-site facilitation and coaching. Twenty-five sets of equipment have been donated by the Columbia Valley Community Foundation to facilitate the program. Ski S Kool is a great way to introduce cross-country skiing skills to kids in a fun, safe environment. Our students began their first session with pre-snow set up and fittings for boots and skis. Next Monday, Jan. 8th, they will begin their outdoor adventures in the school field and continue every Monday until February 6th. Please make sure that your child is dressed appropriately for their outdoor skiing experience! GRADE SEVEN SKI/SNOWBOARD PROGRAM AT PANORAMA Madame Whittick s Grade7 students will be skiing/snowboarding at Panorama in January and February. The dates for are Mondays, January 15th, 22th, 29th and February 5th, and 26th. DRESS FOR THE WEATHER!! Yoga at Recess Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the cold weather as they will be going outside every day. It is rare that students stay indoors so please make sure they have socks, mitts, toques, warm winter coats, winter boots and snow pants. Students who ride the bus must be dressed for the weather. This could become a safety issue if the bus experienced mechanical problems and students were required to stay on the bus for an extended period of time.

A Special Presentation for the Gr. 5/6 Class Students in the Grade 5/6 class starting a new novel study called Fatty Legs. It takes a look a characters experiences in a residential school and some of the unfair treatment that had happened during her time there. To provide some greater context, WES AB Ed Support Worker Ms. Stevens joined our class to provide some information to our students on the topic of residential schools. MRS. PEPIN S GRADE 1/2 CLASS The Grade 1 and 2 class is learning how to add texture to their artwork. Students used salt, plastic wrap, and different painting techniques to create an icy northern landscape at twilight. Students also enjoyed used stencils to paint polar bears walking across the ice. Nice work, everyone!

WES CHRISTMAS WES PAC and parent Hot Lunch volunteers put on an amazing lunch on December 12th. We would like to thank everyone who helped with the lunch either by donation or volunteering.
