EA URGES OWNERS TO BE ON ALERT FOR NEW EQUINE VIRUS. A new neurological virus has been reported in southern states which has resulted in several horse deaths. Owners should, as a matter of urgency and routine good housekeeping, remove all stagnant water which might attract mosquitoes. The symptoms can include: Depression Sensitivity to touch or sound Facial paralysis Exaggerated limb movement or weakness. At this stage, it is not expected the virus can be transmitted to humans, however, humans are at risk of several mosquito borne diseases such as Ross River Fever and Dengue Fever (most prevalent in Queensland). In southern states, Murray River Encephalitis has already killed one man. We are particularly at risk due to the increased rainfall this year and flooding. To reduce this risk, empty all containers that may contain stagnant water where mosquitoes breed and clean water troughs thoroughly. Veterinarians also recommend spraying with insecticide, rugging and stabling. There is no current vaccine and the disease still remains a mystery. Some members are heading to Equitana. If you re interested in going, please contact Yvette. NEW CLUB SHIRT NOW AVAILABLE The club is going back to the original colour of Light Blue as our club colour. New Club shirts available $30.00 at the special price for 2011! Price next year will be $35.00. You can also get your name embroidered on the front for an extra $4. Members can wear their existing member s shirts to members events. There is no requirement to purchase a new shirt. PHOTO SUBMISSIONS WELCOME!
