Contact: Doug Hoffman (435) 797-3714 Tue., Feb. 14 --- MONTANA TECH, 7 p.m. Sat., Feb. 18 --- UC SANTA BARBARA, 7 p.m. (KMYU TV) Utah State men s basketball (13-13, 5-6) will play a pair of non-conference home games this week as it hosts Montana Tech (11-11) on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 7 p.m., and UC Santa Barbara (13-8) on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. The game against UCSB will be televised live on KMYU TV. USU is 2-0 all-time against the Orediggers with both of those games being played at home, and 39-23 all-time against the Gauchos including a 22-6 record at home. W, 77-63 --- LOUISIANA TECH L, 69-80 --- NEW MEXICO STATE Utah State posted a 1-1 home record last week as it defeated Louisiana Tech (77-63) and lost to New Mexico State (80-69). Against the Bulldogs, sophomore guard Preston Medlin had 22 points while junior forward Kyisean Reed added 20 points and nine rebounds. USU finished the game shooting 55.6 percent from the field (30-54), 46.2 percent from three-point range (6-13) and 84.6 percent at the free throw line (11-13). LTU shot 39.7 percent overall (23-58), including 29.6 percent from three (8-27) and 56.3 percent at the line (9-16). Against NMSU, Medlin had 16 points and sophomore guard/forward Danny Berger added a career-high 14 points, while Reed finished with 11 points and senior forward Morgan Grim scored 10 points. USU finished the game shooting 50.0 percent from the field (26-52), 50.0 percent from three-point range (10-20), and 53.8 percent at the free throw line (7-13). NMSU shot 55.6 percent from the field (30-54) and 63.6 percent from behind the arc (7-11), both season-highs for an Aggie opponent. NMSU was also 13-of-21 (.619) at the free throw line. MEN S GOLF... Contact: Doug Hoffman (435) 797-3714 Mon.-Tues., Feb. 13-14 --- at Southern Utah Invitational, Utah State s men s golf team will begin its 2012 spring season on Monday, Feb. 13 when it travels to St. George, Utah to compete in the Southern Utah hosted Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational. The twoday tournament will be held at the Sunbrook Golf Club in St. George, Utah. During its fall season, Utah State played in five tournaments with its best finish coming at the Weber State hosted Wildcat Invitational as USU finished in eighth-place out of 11 teams. Freshman Brennan Coburn led Utah State during the fall season as he had a stroke average of 75.00 in 15 rounds including a season-best 24th-place finish at the Weber State hosted Battle at the Tetons. USU is 8-8 all-time against the Wolf Pack and 2-13 all-time against the Bulldogs. L, 76-82 --- LOUISIANA TECH W, 57-45 --- NEW MEXICO STATE Utah State posted a 1-1 home record last week as it lost to Louisiana Tech (82-76) and defeated New Mexico State (57-45). Against LTU, junior guard Devyn Christensen scored 22 points to go along with a season-high five assists and three steals. Senior forward Ashlee Brown and senior guard Brooke Jackson both scored 14 points, while senior forward Maddy Plunkett finished with 12 points and eight rebounds. USU finished the game shooting 51.9 percent (27-52), including 58.3 percent from three-point range (7-12) and 93.8 percent at the free throw line (15-16). LTU shot 47.6 percent overall (30-63), including 40.9 percent from three (9-22) and 76.5 percent at the line (13-17). Against NMSU, junior forward Jenna Johnson had a teamhigh 11 points, while Christensen and Plunkett each scored 10 points. USU shot 41.5 percent in the game (22-53), including 18.8 percent from three-point range (3-16) and 83.3 percent at the free throw line (10-12). NMSU shot 31.0 percent (18-58), including 17.4 percent from behind the arc (4-23) and 71.4 percent at the line (5-7). GYMNASTICS... Contact: Zach Fisher (435) 797-2066 Fri., Feb. 17 --- SACRAMENTO STATE, 7 p.m. Utah State gymnastics (2-6, 0-2) continues its 2012 season on Friday, Feb. 17 when it hosts Sacramento State in a Western Athletic Conference meet at 7 p.m. L, 194.875-194.950 --- SAN JOSE STATE Utah State notched a season-high 194.875 in its dual loss to San Jose State last weekend as the Spartans scored a 194.950. All four of the Aggies event scores were in the top three on the season, as USU also posted its season-best beam score of the season with a 48.825, its second-best floor score with a 48.450 and its third-highest vault score with a 48.250, for the team total of 194.875. The Spartans scored a 48.700 on vault, 48.925 on bars, 48.850 on beam and 48.475 on floor for their winning score of 194.950. Overall, USU posted 15 career-highs during the meet and notched the second-best bars score (49.350) in school history. On bars, all six gymnasts in the Aggies rotation set or tied their career-highs. Freshman Sarah Landes registered five of the Aggies 15 career-bests on the night with her career-high all-around score of 39.350, which is tied for the 13th-highest score in school history. Landes also tied for first on beam with a 9.875, to go along with her second-place finish in the all-around. INDOOR TRACK & FIELD... Contact: Travis Hansen (435) 512-5861 Next Week Thur.-Sat., Feb. 23-25 --- at WAC Championships, Boise, ID, Utah State s indoor track and field teams will continue its 2012 season on Thursday, Feb. 23 when it travels to Boise, Idaho to compete in the 2012 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. The Aggie men have won two straight indoor WAC titles and three of the last four overall, while the Aggie women have placed second each of the last two years. --- at Washington Invitational --- at New Mexico Invitational --- at Boise State Invitational Utah State track and field standout senior pole vaulter Sonia Grabowska won her second title of the season clearing 4.05m (13-03.50) at the Boise State Team Challenge last weekend. Overall, USU had 15 student-athletes place in the top-10 and 11 Aggies set new personal-best marks at both the Boise State Team Challenge and at Washington s FloTrack Husky Classic. Junior Jon Goble recorded a personal-best time in the 60m hurdles (8.50) to garner sixth-place, while senior Philip Noble and junior Jordan McMurray followed close behind taking seventh and ninth-places with time of 8.56 and 8.87, respectively. Junior David Cluff ran a 9:02.46 in the 3,000m race to place 10th, while sophomore Kenny Hamlett tied his season-high of 1.84m (6-00.50) in the high jump to tie for sixth-place. Rounding out the top-10 for the Aggie men was senior Damian Szade who placed second in the long jump with a mark of 6.93m (22-09.00), while Noble placed eighth with a mark of 6.31m (20-08.50) in the same event. Noble also set a personal-best mark in the shot put [11.19m (36-08.50)] and in the 60m hurdles (8.50). Senior Xavier Martin recorded a new personal-best in the 60m dash, clocking in at 7.18 along with junior Jordan McMurray setting a personal-best mark in the shot put with a throw of 11.55m (37-10.75). For the USU women, sophomore Sam Nielson and senior Julia Stewart led the way at Boise State, with a third and fifth-place finish in the triple jump with leaps of 11.88m (38-11.75) and 11.56m (37-11.25), respectively. Stewart s mark is a personalbest. Sophomore Haley Ence collected 10th-place in the 800m with a time of 2:23.95, while junior Amber Thompson and senior Rachelle St. Jeor joined Grabowska in the pole vault clearing 3.60m (11-09.75). Thompson tied for seventh-place on a judge s decision while St. Jeor took home 10th-place. At Washington, the Aggie distance runners collectively performed well as several athletes set new personal-best marks including seniors Nick Bolinder who claimed 37th-place in the 3,000m run (8:30.86) and Chio Lopez who brought home 29th-place in the mile with a time of 4:08.67. Sophomore Hannah Williams also set a personal-best time as she clocked in at 4:57.79 in the mile run to take home 39th-place. Other Utah State runners to set personal-best marks in Seattle were junior Stephanie Burt (5:01.06), along with freshman Brittany Bushman (5:11.57) and Eric Shellhorn (4:18.70), all in the mile. Senior distance runner Daniel Howell bested his own school record time in the 5,000 meter run (14:04.25/12th-place) at Washington as the Utah State track and field teams collected one event title and 13 top-10 finishes at three different meets. Sophomore Kylie Hirschi captured her second-straight 800m title (2:12.56) at New Mexico Invitational and high-flying freshman Rachel Orr cleared 1.73m (5-08.00) for the second-time this season to claim third-place in the high jump. Joining Orr in the high jump was fellow freshman Mariah Thompson who placed eighth and junior Bri Campbell who took home 10thplace on a judge s decision. Thompson and Campbell each jumped over the bar at 1.63m (5-04.25). Senior Katelyn Heiner also finished eighth in the 400m with a personal-best time of 55.09, while junior Aubrie Haymore finished close behind in ninth-place with her personalbest time of 55.77. The women s 4x400 meter relay team also found the top 10 as they placed sixth with a time of 3:45.19 which ranks them at No. 7 all-time in Aggie indoor history, with the team consisting of Heiner and Haymore along with juniors Hollie Bosworth and Bailee Whitworth. For the USU men at the New Mexico Invitational, junior Tyler Killpack ran a personal-best time of 1:54.34 in the 800m to garner fifth-place, while sophomore Silas Pimentel placed seventh and 10th in the 60m and 200m with times of 6.78 and 21.31, respectively. Pimentel now ranks at No. 2 in the 200 meter race in Aggie indoor track and field history. Fellow sophomore AJ Boully finished in 10th-place in the 400m with a personal-best and Western Athletic Conference season-best time of 48.30. Sophomore Bryce Hall and senior Joe Canavan rounded out Utah State s top-10 finishes in Albuquerque with throws of 18.45m (60-06.50) and 16.88m (55-04.75) to claim seventh and eighth-places in the weight throw. Joining Howell in the Aggie record books at No. 9 in the 5,000m was sophomore Kyle McKenna who ran a personal-best time of 14:26.33 (38th-place) at the Washington Classic. Senior Kim Quinn also ran the 5,000m on the women s side as she finished in 52nd-place with a WAC seasonbest time of 17:27.43. At Boise State, senior John Johnson cleared a season-best 4.90m (16-00.75) on his third pole vault try to capture second-place on a judge s decision. With the height, Johnson ranks at No. 3 in the WAC this season. SOFLL... USU will begin the tournament on Friday, Feb. 17 against Cal State Northridge at 2:30 p.m. (MT), followed by a game against UC Riverside at 7 p.m. (MT). On Saturday, Feb. 18, USU will face Indiana at 4:45 p.m. (MT), and on Sunday, Feb. 19, Utah State will conclude the tournament with a pair of games against Texas Tech and LSU at 12:45 and 2:30 p.m. (MT), respectively. at Georgia Showcase W, 6-5 --- vs. North Carolina State L, 2-3 --- vs. Army W, 8-4 --- vs. St. John s L, 0-8 (5) --- at Georgia Cancelled --- vs. Campbell Senior second baseman Lindsey Marquez helped Utah State post a 2-2 record at the Georgia Showcase last weekend as the Aggies defeated North Carolina State (6-5) and St. John s (8-4), while losing to Army (3-2) and Georgia (8-0). Marquez s best game of the tournament came in the season opener against N.C. State as she hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to give the Aggies a come-from-behind win. For the week, Marquez hit.286 (2-7) with two runs batted in, one run scored and six walks. MEN S TENNIS... W, 6-1 --- MESA STATE Utah State won its only match of the week as it defeated Mesa State, 6-1. Against the Mavericks, junior Sven Poslusny posted a straight sets win at No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-1), freshman Marcus Fritz posted a straight sets win at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-3), sophomore Fredrick Peterson won in straight sets at No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-2), junior Lenny Whiting recorded a straight sets win at No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-1), and senior Nate Ballam posted a straight sets win at No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-1). USU also won the doubles point as Fritz and Poslusny posted an 8-1 win at the first position, Ballam teamed with freshman Matt Sweet for an 8-3 win at the second position, and Whiting teamed with junior Lenny Whiting for an 8-0 win at the third position.

Against the Bengals, junior Jaci West posted a straight sets win at No.1 singles (6-2, 6-2), freshman McKenzie Davis won in straight sets at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-2), junior Kristina Voytsekovich posted a straight sets win at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-0), junior Romina Nedakovic won in straight sets at No. 4 singles (7-6, 6-4), senior Brianna Rowland won in straight sets at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-0), and senior Monica Abella won in straight sets at No. 6 singles (6-4, 6-3). USU also won the doubles point as West and Davis won at the first doubles position (8-2), Nedakovic and Voytsekhovich posted an 8-6 win at the second doubles position, and Rowland teamed with freshman Kimberly Watts for an 8-1 win at the third doubles position.
