Austria - Germany Tauern Bike Path from Krimml to Passau Bike Tour 2019 Individual Self-Guided 8 days/ 7 nights This route is named after a breath taking mountain range. But you don t have to worry: You cycle through the valleys along the rivers Salzach and Saalach. The bike path has a decline of 750 m from your starting point Krimml to the destination Passau. Every day you will see a few scenic highlights of landscape and culture like our snow covered mountains with a height of 3, 000 meters. You will be impressed with this magical landscape. Your cultural expectations will absolutely be satisfied. Riparian forests, small villages and the river Inn" characterize the second part to the threeriver city Passau. The magnificent and breathtaking bike trip will make you forget the daily routine of your everyday life. This holiday promises to get you in a relaxed mood.
Itinerary Day to Day Day 1: Individual arrival to Krimml In Krimml you find the largest European waterfall. On a well-designed trail you can admire this natural spectacle. Your bikes are available at the booked accommodation. Day 2: Krimml - Kaprun/Zell am See 60 km Your route runs through the High Tauern National Park and through Oberpinzgau. Due to there being high mountains around, snow covered peaks will constantly accompany you on this tour. Lush green meadows alternate with lovely small villages and offer a fabulous scenery. In Kaprun you have the possibility to view the Alpine reservoirs too. Day 3: Kaprun/Zell am See - Lofer 50 km You cycle via Maria Alm where there is a famous pilgrimage church. Another highlight is Saalfelden, which is perfectly located for a lunch break. Further sights on your way to Lofer are the Seisenbergklamm and Lamprechtshohe near Weisbach. Day 4: Lofer - Salzburg 50 km Today will lead you mostly through the Saalach Valley. Bad Reichenhall, located in the small German corner, enchants you with Bavarian flair. After a short distance you have reached Salzburg, the city of Mozart. The cultural offer will embrace you. You should plan enough extra time for a walk through the city and a visit of Mozart s birth house. Day 5: Salzburg - Burghausen 60 km Today you leave Salzburg and its Alps behind and cycle through the Apline foothills. The Tauern bike path ends in Tittmoning and from here you have to follow the trail along the Lower Inn before you will reach your destination Burghausen. Make sure to visit its magnificent historic center and has the largest castle complex in Central Europe. Both are outstanding.
Day 6: Burghausen - Obernberg am Inn/Bad Füssing 50 km Today you cycle along the river Inn up to Braunau. This gothic town is perfect for taking a lunch break. On your way there are numerous bird colonies. From here you can follow the bike path on the Bavarian or Austrian side the choice is yours! Today s destination Obernberg has a well-known market square with many baroque buildings. meinbezirk.at Day 7: Obernberg am Inn/Bad Füssing - Passau 40 km Soon you reach Stift Reichersberg, which is worth a visit. On your route alongside the river Inn you cycle through small towns like Schärding where you can take a break at the baroque market square. Not much further after Scharding and you will have reached the final destination of this beautiful bike trip: Passau. The three river city has much to offer, for example the largest cathedral organ in the world. A river cruise would certainly be a grand finale of this wonderful bike ride. Route Technical Characteristics: Route Profile: Relatively Easy. The Tauern bike path is well signposted all the way along. The route leads through quiet and paved paths and country roads. Part of the time you will have to cycle on busier sections. A few short stages you have to cycle on unpaved paths. The quality of the trail can be described broadly as very good. There are hardly any uphill sections in this version of the tour and therefore it is also suitable for families with children.
