United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps 2300 Wilson Boulevard Arlington, Virginia 22201 TEL: (703) 243-6910 FAX: (703) 243-3985 Welcome to Winter 2014 SCUBA Training, Long Beach, CA. This letter should answer most of your questions. Our goal is to insure that your Cadet will have an enjoyable and worthwhile training experience. Please thoroughly review the information listed below with your Cadet. This will help insure a safe and positive training experience. This is a non-uniform training and Cadets traveling by commercial carrier are to travel in appropriate civilian clothes. Cadets requiring the regular use of medications need to contact the COTC with details. The final determination of participation in training due to medical condition lies with the COTC, based on NSCC Regulations. COURSE DESCRIPTION: SCUBA Training is designed to qualify you as both Basic Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue. In addition to certification, you will develop strong individual and team skills as you progress through the training with your shipmates. Passing the PRT and Swim Qualification is required the morning of arrival (see below). COURSE STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS: Discipline and professionalism will be expected of each Cadet and Officer involved with this command. The training pace will be rapid and a certain physical and mental standard will be required of all participants. SCUBA Training will test the participant s honor, courage, and commitment. Participants must be both physically and mentally prepared for the training. They will be expected to display attention to detail, pride, teamwork, and professionalism at all times. Come prepared to work hard and play hard! PRE-ARRIVAL PROCEDURES: Please forward confirmed transportation arrangement to COTC, LTJG Randy Montrose, by email (rmontrose@nsccpsw.org) and LTJG Crystal Cox, ccox@nsccpsw.org as soon as possible. Transportation to and from the training site for Cadets should be covered by public conveyance covered at parents expense. Considering that trainings may be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, travel arrangements should be made with refundable options. ARRIVAL PROCEDURES: Those arriving by airline, train or bus should plan to arrive at Long Beach Airport on December 18 no earlier the 1900. Please understand this is a work day so the later the arrival the better. (arrivals other than specified hours need prior approval). Officers and cadets arriving by airplane, train or bus will stay at the Los

Alamitos Joint Training Base with Officers at 11200 Lexington Drive, Los Alamitos, CA 90720 CHECK-IN PROCEDURES: All cadets should check in at 0700 with bathing suit on under PT gear. Swim quals will be first from 0700-0800. PRT will follow. All personnel must report with a proper regulation haircut and shave. Cadets requiring medication during Training (Prescribed or OTC) must have completed attached medical supplemental form NSCTNG025. Please note that we will be on the dive boat 24/7. We will not dock at night. I highly recommend motion sickness medication for this training even if you do not get sea sick it is highly recommended that you bring it. The boat rocks nonstop during the night time hours. Cadets should eat a small breakfast or have a snack before reporting in. Immediately after check-in is complete, the PRT begins, followed by the Swim Qual s. Failure to pass the PRT or Swim Quals will result is Cadet being sent home at parent s expense.
