A PLAYERS RESPONSIBILITY Ensure all players enjoy their game by observing the Etiquette of Golf. Know the Rules of Golf, and the Local Rules, and the Conditions of Play. All Players must keep up with the Group in front and not in front of the group behind. Mark and sign your scorecards correctly. The Match Committee may change a result, but not the stroke score. An incorrect card will incur disqualification. ETIQUETTE OF GOLF 1. No one should move or talk close to another player when that player is addressing the ball or making a stroke. It is against the Rules of Golf for anyone to stand close to or directly behind the line of play of another player during the act of making a stroke 2. No player should play until the players in front are out of range or have been called through. 3. All players should without delay, play all shots when they are ready and it is safe to do so irrespective of which player is furthest from the hole. (Except in Match-play where order of play must be strictly adhered to). 4. Players searching for a ball should allow, after 3 minutes (no more), other players coming up to pass them: they should signal to the players allowing them to pass and should not continue their play until those players have passed and are out of range. 5. All players must use the rakes provided to smooth out footmarks etc. after playing from the bunkers. Leave the rakes in the middle of the bunkers, parallel to the line of the fairway. 6. In the General Area a player should ensure that any turf cut or displaced is replaced at once and pressed down, and any damage to the putting green made by the ball or the player is properly repaired. 7. Players should ensure that neither they nor their caddies damage the hole by standing close to the hole or by handling the flagstick. The flagstick should be replaced in the hole before the players leave the putting green. 8. When the result of a hole has been determined, players should immediately leave the putting green. Players must pick up their ball when they are unable to record a score on a hole (except in Medal play). 9. Player or players who fall at least one fairway behind preceding players shall call following players through. Failure to observe this rule will incur a penalty of 2 strokes (Rule 5.6), and for repeated offences, disqualification. 39

COURSE MARSHALL: Acts under the Authority of the Match Committee. Complaints are to be directed to the Match Committee and not to the Course Marshall. The role assists all Golfers with speed of play and should be appreciated and respected by the members. TIMESHEETS:- Time Sheets will be available through the touch screen monitors located in the Pro Shop and near the Pool Table area inside the Clubhouse, at least two weeks in advance of a competition. Timesheets will also be available via the Club s Internet website www.ashgrovegolf.com.au Players need to provide the Club Office with a pin number to be able to access the Internet timesheet. Check your allotted time, and be ready to play at least fifteen (15) minutes before your starting time. The official starter has complete control of the field and may vary your allotted time as necessary. Change of any contact details. It is your responsibility to advise the Committee of any change of address or contact details. Wrongly addressed mail or email helps no one. SLOW PLAY (Some hints to speed up your game) A round of golf at Ashgrove should take no longer than 4 hours and 20 minutes 1. It is the responsibility of the lowest marker in the group to ensure the group plays as quickly as possible. 2. Move quickly between your shots. 3. The first person to tee off on the next hole should record the score for the last hole after they have played their tee shot. 4. The person furthest from the hole does not need to play first if others in the group are ready to play their shots. If it is not safe for the person furthest from the hole to play their shot but it is safe for others in the group to play their shot then they should play first. 5. If safe to do so then you should play your next shot first before assisting others to find their ball. 6. Bags and buggies should not be left at the front of the green when putting. 7. All players should go to the next tee via the back of the green of the hole you have just played. 8. If your group needs to find a ball, call up the group behind first then look for three (3) minutes. IMPORTANT NOTE: Machinery, Ground Staff and Course Marshall have right of way at all times on the course. 40

DESIGNATED PRACTICE AREAS: The Practice Tee located at the bottom of the 15 th Fairway is the designated practice area for all times except for when a competition is being played. Also after 4.00 pm the 1 st tee (White Markers ONLY) can be used as a practice area to hit balls with a wood off a tee ONLY, social play permitting. The practicing of chipping may not take place when facing Waterworks Road or the practice putting green. MEMBERS (MALE & FEMALE) SOCIAL ROUNDS: ALL Members MUST report to the Pro Shop prior to any social or practice round. All members must use the White social tees to hit from. Blue (male) and Red (female) tees can only be used in competition rounds. Members MUST NOT play more than two (2) balls per hole and then only if they are not hindering players behind them. Playing from the wrong tees or playing more than 2 balls WILL result in suspension from the Golf Club. RULES OF DRESS The following Rules of Dress apply to all persons using the facilities of Ashgrove Golf Club. Any person not adhering to the Club s minimum standard of dress will be asked to leave the Club and/or Course. A clean, neat and tidy appearance is required at all times. Appropriate Footwear must be worn at all times. Not Acceptable: On the Course: Abbreviated shirts or shorts - Beach or football attire - Thongs / Sandals, Sandshoes without socks. In The Club House: Singlets, rubber thongs, hats or caps. Please Note: Clean workwear is permitted in the clubhouse until 7.00pm Dress rules are flexible in accordance with fashion at the discretion of the Operations Manager / Secretary or delegate. CLOSURE OF COURSE From time to time during the playing of major events, notices to the effect that the course has been closed have been posted. This has created some confusion and disability to Members who are not entered in the particular event but are still desirous of playing golf. Would all Members please note that the course is not closed to them but they must not, under any circumstances interfere with the established hit-off times or continuity of play of the event of that day. The course however is closed to all non-members and social Clubs. In order that no one is embarrassed would all Members please ensure that they have their Membership card with them for identification as necessary. All players MUST report to the Pro-Shop before hitting off on a social round of golf even if only playing a few holes. Members need to book a time with the Pro-Shop for a social round of golf or they may be unable to play due to other social bookings. 41

DISCONTINUANCE OF PLAY From time to time the course becomes unplayable. ALL players on the Course need to be advised of this. The method employed will involve the use of an air horn. THREE BLASTS: TWO BLASTS: PLAY HAS BEEN ABANDONED FOR THE DAY. TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF PLAY In general, play will be temporarily suspended when: (a) Greens are awash (b) Lightning is imminent Players in competitions should familiarise themselves with their options when play is temporarily suspended. Rule 5.7a, Rule 5.7b. WITHIN 20 MINUTES OF A TEMPORARY SUSPENSION:- Either: (a) THREE BLASTS WILL SOUND: PLAY HAS BEEN ABANDONED FOR THE DAY. OR (b) TWO BLAST TO CONTINUE THE TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OR (c) ONE LENGTHY BLAST WILL SOUND TO RECOMMENCE PLAY. MEMBERS CONDITIONS Rescheduling Events The Match committee MAY reschedule any Major event (including Monthly Medal) or an individual round of a Major event due to the following reasons: 1. Play has been abandoned for the round due to inclement weather or other unplayable reason with less than 75% of the field (booked in by 7am on the day) being able to complete their round. 2. Play was suspended for a period of time and although recommenced, less than 75% of the field (booked in by 7am on the day) were able to complete their round. 3. The Match committee MAY reduce the number of rounds in a multiple round competition. (e.g. if a round of the Club Championships was unable to be played (see above) then the Match committee may decide the event based on 3 instead of 4 rounds). 4. For Thursday Club Championships - 3 full rounds will be played to facilitate the "best 2 out of 3". A full round requires 75% of the field (booked in by 7.00am on the day) to complete their round. 5. Any other reason that the Match committee deem appropriate. 42

Competitive Play 1. PLAYERS WHO ARE UNFINANCIAL ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO COMPETE IN COMPETITIONS. THE PRO SHOP STAFF DO NOT HAVE DISCRETION IN THIS MATTER 2. The Rules of Golf, the Local Rules, and the By-Laws of the club are in the Rules of Play. These fixtures and conditions are subject to alteration by the Committee, at any time, at their discretion. 3. ALL 4BBB AND TEAM AGGREGATE EVENTS: Players will be required to have their score recorded for each hole and then enter their scores through the touch screen. The 4BBB or Team Aggregate score will then either be calculated by the computer or manually entered by the team. Events such as Foursomes (any type) or Ambrose will only have their team score entered. 4. Players desiring to play in any event listed, are required to have their names on the Time Sheets provided. 5. Ties in ALL EVENTS (including Honour Board events) must be decided by using the Golf Australia count-back system (unless specified in the Major event conditions). In match play events, in the event of a tie after 18 or 36 holes as the case may be, the match shall continue until a decision is reached. Note: Rotation of shots recommences, for each 18 holes. 6. In the Foursomes Cup and Mixed Foursomes Cup the player who hits off first in the first round of play must hit off second in the second round of play unless directed otherwise by Match Committee. 7. All cards must be returned for handicap purposes. If a player fails to return a competition card, then penalties as per the By-Laws may be imposed. 8. A score incorrectly marked, or not signed by the player and marker, is subject to disqualification. The Match Committee may alter a result, but cannot alter a stroke score. 9. In Championship events, open events, and other special or qualifying events, no player is eligible to win more than one trophy. BLOCKED TIMES Social Clubs Social Clubs will play at different times throughout the year. Members should note that blocked times are allocated to these clubs. Blocked times may be allocated specifically for male or female Members by the Match Committee. These times must be observed by all players. COMPETITION DEFINITIONS & METHOD OF PLAY AMBROSE: This is played as a team with every player teeing off. The best ball is selected, marked and lifted. All players, in no particular order, then place the ball within one club length (one card length on the green) and all hit again. This process is repeated until the ball is holed out. If the selected ball is in the rough then all players are to play from the rough (similarly for hazards and bunkers). Each player in the team must use a minimum number of tee shots (4 in a team with 4 players; 3 in a team with 3 players; 6 in a team with 2 players). If there are only 3 players available for a 2 Person Ambrose then the player with the lowest handicap is to be a swing player so that the group has two 2 person teams. This may require the swing player to place and play a second ball at times. The group will not play as a 3 person team. Also there CANNOT be a 5 person team in a 4 Person Ambrose. 43

Handicaps will be: 4 person - one eighth of combined; 3 person - one sixth of combined; 2 person - one quarter of combined. 4 Person Ambrose ONLY - Once putting from the green only, all players will have one putt and if the ball is not holed then the ball is considered holed for the next shot (e.g. there will only ever be a 2 putt for the team). AMERICAN FOURSOMES: The event is played with partners playing alternate shots with one ball from tee to holing out. Both players hit off all tees, then play the second shot with their partners ball before deciding which ball is to be played for the third shot. The third shot is to be played by the person who owns the ball. Handicap is one half of combined. If there are only 3 players available for this event then the player with the lowest handicap is to be a swing player so that the group has two 2 person teams. This may require the swing player to place and play a second ball at times. CANADIAN FOURSOMES: The event is played with partners playing alternate shots with one ball from tee to holing out. Both players hit off all tees, then decide which ball is to be played for the second shot. The second shot is to be played by the person who does not own the ball. Handicap is one half of combined. If there are only 3 players available for this event then the player with the lowest handicap is to be a swing player so that the group has two 2 Person teams. This may require the swing player to place and play a second ball at times. CHAPMAN FOURSOMES: The event is played with partners playing alternate shots with one ball from tee to holing out. Both players hit off all tees, then play the second shot with their own ball before deciding which ball is to be played for the third shot. The third shot is to be played by the person who does not own the ball. Handicap is one half of combined. If there are only 3 players available for this event then the player with the lowest handicap is to be a swing player so that the group has two 2 person teams. This may require the swing player to place and play a second ball at times. FOURSOMES: Players play from alternate tees and also alternate shots on each hole. The second shot is played by the player who did not hit the tee shot. The second shot may not be the second stroke (e.g. if the tee shot goes OOB then the second shot is actually the third stroke). If being played over 2 rounds then the person who hit off the odd tees in the first round will hit off the even tees in the second round. Handicap is one half of combined. MIXED FOURSOMES: Players play from alternate tees and also alternate shots on each hole. The second shot is played by the player who did not hit the tee shot. The second shot may not be the second stroke (e.g. if the tee shot goes OOB then the second shot is actually the third stroke. Also if the Man s tee shot goes OOB then the lady must play from the Men s tee and vice versa). If being played over 2 rounds then Ladies play off the odd numbered tees in the first round and Men in the second round. Handicap is one half of combined. 44

HANDICAP V PAR WITH BISQUE: Scoring in this is the same as Handicap V Par but with strokes being taken where chosen, rather than by index and to be decided after each hole and before play commences on the next hole. Any number of strokes may be used on any hole until the total allowable strokes are used. TEXAN FOURBALL 2 players to a team Players hit their own ball from each tee block Players choose one of the 2 drives Drive chosen is marked on the ground with tee or disc Owner of chosen ball hits the ball playing their second shot Partner places ball within 1 club length of the mark and plays second shot Players play their own ball to the hole The two individual stableford points are added together for team score on each hole Highest score wins the competition MEDLEY EVENTS and MIXED Events: Members and Female Members play on full handicap.
