Bry Snow notched her first career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, but was the only Lady Bear to score in double figures as the team shot just.348 (24-69) from the floor. Missouri State committed a season-low six turnovers and trailed 42-41 in the rebounding battle. Quick Hits The Lady Bears continue to get to the foul line at a high rate this season, building on a trend from last year in which the team led the nation with an average of 25.03 free throw attempts per game. Missouri State averages 25.06 attempts this year to lead the MVC and has made at least 10 free throws in 41 of its last 47 games while attempting at least 17 in 43 of the last 47 dating to the beginning of the 2012-13 campaign. Missouri State is also once again among the league leaders in offensive rebounding, currently leading the MVC with 14.9 offensive boards per contest after setting the school record at 17.45 a season ago. MSU rebounds 37.9 percent of its misses this year and grabbed 41.4 percent last year. The Lady Bears played an eight-game stretch during the non-conference season against teams that played in either the NCAA Tournament, WNIT or WBI last season. In fact, only two of MSU s 11 non-conference opponents had a losing record last season, while six schools were picked to finish third or better in their respective preseason conference polls. MSU has been led in scoring by a sophomore in 12 of 16 games this year, with Kenzie Williams taking those honors seven times with Tyonna Snow accounting for five. Senior Bry Snow (3) and freshman Katie Palmer (1) hold the other four. The Snows have combined to score at least 35 points in three games this season with a high of 42 at North Texas when they had 21 apiece. Missouri State has utilized its bench heavily this season, with all available healthy players participating in 13 of 16 games thus far. Missouri State is 91-57 overall (.615) since the beginning of the 2009-10 season, with a 42-22 (.656) non-conference record and 49-35 (.583) mark against MVC competition. MSU is 28-10 at home since the beginning of the 2011-12 season, averaging 76.6 points in those 38 games while topping the 70-point mark 28 times and scoring 80 or more 17 times. Harper and her husband Jon, who has served as an assistant on her coaching staff at Western Carolina, NC State, and now at Missouri State, welcomed their first child, Jackson, on Nov. 25, 2013. High Scoring Staff The 2013-14 Lady Bear coaching staff combined to score 5,087 points at the Division I level during their playing careers with four All-America seasons, four Final Four appearances and three national championships. In fact, MSU has one of just six coaching staffs among 351 nationally that scored more than 5,000 combined points at the Division level in their college careers. Head Coach Kellie (Jolly) Harper won three national titles at Tennessee under the legendary Pat Summitt, including a 39-0 junior season in 1998. The point guard scored 894 points and dished out 452 assists. The NCAA s all-time leading scorer, assistant Jackie Stiles poured in 3,393 points for Missouri State from 1997-2001. The three-time All-American and 2001 National Player of the Year led the Lady Bears to their second Final Four that season. Assistant Jennifer Sullivan enjoyed a standout career at Memphis, piling up 800 points, 310 rebounds and 99 steals as a three-year starter for the Tigers. MSU Peaks in The Valley The Lady Bears are 256-122 all-time in MVC play with a 151-40 home record against league foes. Missouri State has won at least a share of 13 regular-season titles and nine conference tournaments since the 1989-90 season. MSU has played in 11 of the 21 Valley tournament championship games and 13 of the 27 title games since the inception of the Gateway Conference Tournament in 1983. Missouri State All-Time Missouri State is in its 45th season of women s collegiate basketball and has an alltime record of 765-532 (.590). MSU began formal competition in 1969 and, with a 24-9 mark in 2012, secured its 29th winning season. The Lady Bears have made 13 NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by Final Four trips in 1992 and 2001 to go along with a Sweet 16 appearance in 1993. The Lady Bears are in their 32nd NCAA Division I season and 22nd MVC year. MSU was in AIAW competition on the state, regional and national levels through the 1981-82 season, moved to Division I and Gateway Collegiate Athletic Conference play in 1982-83 and started MVC competition in 1992-93 when the Gateway merged with The Valley. Fandemonium With the conclusion of their fifth season in JQH Arena, the Lady Bears returned to the top of the MVC standings in terms of attendance, drawing 36,479 fans in 14 home dates in 2012-13 for a 2,606 average. MSU has now led the MVC in attendance 22 times in the past 24 seasons. The Lady Bears outdrew four AP Top 25 teams, as well as regional foes Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma State in per-game attendance. Since the 1990-91 season, Missouri State has ranked in the top 20 nationally in average attendance 19 times, including a string of 10 straight top-10 finishes from 1992 through the 2000-01 season. The Lady Bears led all of Division I women s basketball in attendance during the 1992-93 season by averaging 7,421 fans per contest. Over the last two decades, MSU is fourth among all Division I women s programs in average attendance, trailing only Tennessee, Connecticut and Texas Tech. Additionally, the Lady Bears have finished in the top 50 nationally in per game attendance for 26 straight years. Q Rating After compiling a 325-108 record in Hammons Student Center over its 32-year stint as home of Missouri State basketball, the Lady Bears posted a 9-5 at home last season to run their five-year record to 55-24 in JQH Arena. The Q is the fourth regular home of Missouri State women s basketball in the fourdecade history of the program. The Lady Bears utilized both McDonald Arena and the Greenwood Laboratory School gym from 1969 until Hammons Student Center opened in 1976. MSU continued to play some of its home games at McDonald through the 1979-80 season. The Lady Bears new home was made possible by a $30 million gift from MSU alumnus John Q. Hammons and features seating for more than 11,000 fans, 24 suites, the PRIME Overtime Club and the Missouri State University Hall of Fame and Legacy of Competition.
