REPORT By Continental Cycling Center Shuzenji Continental Cycling Center Shuzenji (CCC Shuzenji) held 2012 Second Training Camp at CCC Shuzneji, accepted and trained cyclists and coaches in Asia area who recommended by their National Federation. 1. Purpose The aim of this training camp that we will train participating athletes in this camp will be able to become top riders in the world in the future and promote of cycling in Asia area under the concept of World Cycling Center (WCC) proposed by Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). In this camp, one of the participants belongs elite category, we have a purpose for cultivation as a excellent rider and coach, because we expect that he will become a coach and key person to contribute a promotion for competitive cycling at Singapore and around countries. And other 2 riders don t have enough experiences of track cycling, so we have an aim of talent-cultivation to train them by basic training program so that they will be able to become good riders in worldwide. 2. Period From 11th January to 24th January 2013 3. Participants as appendix list Total 2 countries and area 3 riders a) Hong Kong China 2 riders b) Singapore 1 riders 4. CCC Shuzenji coaching staff General supervision MASAO YAJIMA (Superintendent of CCC Shuzenji) Staff HIROYUKI NAGAI (Manager of CCC Shuzenji) Staff and coach NAOHIRO NODA (Assistant manager of CCC Shuzenji) Head coach AKIRA KATO (Head coach of CCC Shuzenji) Coach SHIGEKAZU HAGIHARA (Coach of CCC Shuzenji) Coach KAZUO MIYACHI (Coach of CCC Shuzenji) Assistant coach HISASHI FUJII (Assistant coach of CCC Shuzenji) Assistant coach SHOGO KOBA (Assistant coach of CCC Shuzenj Note) Our coaching staff worked for the camp by rotation except for delegated coaches. 5. Facilities Izu Velodrome (Indoor wooden 250m track), Cycling sports science laboratory (Keirin

school), Cyctel (accommodation), weight training room, medical room (administrator tower), office/conference and meeting room (in velodrome) 6. Items disk wheels (front and rear), spare wheels (front and rear), transceivers, national flags, stop watches, digital camera and movies, blankets, vehicles (ban),compressor, heart rate monitor, lap top, printer, 1/1000 electric time keeping system, count down timer, rollers, office function, others (equipments, spare parts and so on) 7. Substance of training In this time, this training camp was the Few and the Proud the participants were only 3 riders from 2 countries. 2 HKG riders do not have enough experiences for track cycling. Another participant, Singapore do not have any velodrome in his country, so he usually trains by road, and he go to Melbourne in Australia or Kuala Lumpure in Malaysia for track training. There were 3 riders, so we could find time for coaching per a rider, so we also could coach to the riders by more high quality coaching of individuality for character of each rider. Japan Keirin School was closed in the first term by consecutive holidays of Japan, so they could be tested their pedaling skills, power and so on by the machine in the School on the 4 th day. So, we had checked their habits, characteristics and so on for cycling skill until the test. And then, we adjusted and reformed their bike position, riding form pedaling skill and so on by checking the data. Also, we, coaching staff could work division as team each specialized fields, control (generalization) of training, training by bike, physical training, analysis of data and so on. This team working is the trend in top sports. In the result, all riders understand the matters very well, they tried hard to improve to effective riding form and pedaling. In the first half, the training program was for increasing of cadence and basic physical ability by light gear. In the end of half, it was for increasing of the output of power and neuro-muscle ability by the little bit heavy gear. Also, riders required, we did weight and physical training and conditioning specialized for cycling. We explained the aim and theory for each training to riders directly, because all riders did not have any own coaches in this time. Then, it was held in very cold winter season and they come from hot region, so we provided them surgical alcohol, cup and salt to drive home to gurgles them for prevention of common cold. Also, we used our natural hot spring for their conditioning. In this time, they shared the velodrome with Japanese National Junior team camp for Australian Youth Olympic Games and Para-cycling Japan National team, but each training programs were different. We think each rider could do a good international exchange. Especially, at the class for physical education of local high school, Izu-sogo high we accepted, our participants directed how to ride the track bike for the school students. It was very nice international exchange for each participant and student (appendix newspaper). 8. Effect of training As I noted above, in the half of the camp, we adjusted and reformed their riding form and pedaling skill to more effective one. In the result, all riders understood and tried to adjust by themselves. When other riders did training in the velodrome, they deeply observed the riders and asked us good or not. Our participants are very earnest. However, all riders were very very tired, because we think they did not have any experiences like this a hard training and it was the training camp of long term under the unfamiliar surrounding. In particular, HKG female rider go down and rest the training in a few days of the end of half due to

disorder of breathing equipment and fever. But we always checked rider s heart rate and weight just wake up in every morning ( In her case, her weight was decreasing weight and elevation of her heart rate suddenly), so we could expect the sign of her bad body condition by the data. And we also directed to inform us immediately if they are feeling of unwellness and we checked their appetites every meals. So, we could reduce the volume of training for prevention of excessive over training by the checking. She tried to do the hard training to the utmost limit, so she damaged a lot. But regarding the time trial done on the final day, all riders could try and do their best. Although it was at the wooden surface, Singapore rider could cut down about 12 seconds at 4km individual pursuit, also at 1km, too. We think he can feel the effective of the training by the result. And 2 HKG riders also could feel it, too. Because we can read the fact from their answer of questionnaires (as appendix). As a whole, Singapore rider is very earnest, because he always had questions about result of test for pedaling skills and our explanations so that he could absorb more a lot of acknowledges for cycling. In the future, we expect leading person for cycling in Singapore, and we hope his great cycling life in his future by the information he got in this time. Also, 2 HKG riders tried to do their best at our hard training every time. We are sure they also will be able to become great athletes can target the top in Asia, if they can lap over more effective training in the future. 9. Our responses in this camp and tasks ahead We did fist try to hold training camp in the cold winter season at Shuzenji in January. Almost Asian countries are hot regions, so we could not expect number of the participant. Even in a few number, but both of Hong Kong China and Singapore are hot region took part in this camp. So, we are sure that important of existence of CCC Shuzenji in Asia is increasing. Especially, Singapore had taken part in our training camp only one time in 2004 at Kuala Lumpure in the past, mobile training camp. So, his participation of this time is first time at Shuzenji training camp. It is very meaningful for our big aim, promotion of cycling in Asia. As I noted the above, his country does not have any velodrome, but we esteem his enthusiastic attitude to learn about cycling. Also, regarding Hong Kong China always send many hopeful riders to our training camp every time, so we feel a responsibility for promotion of cycling in Asia. Finally, we also feel that we must execute a mission about discovering a good talent, cultivation and strengthening for Asian riders with training good coaches by flexible and multiple approaches. 10. Participant s impression and change of opinion and so on As appendix questionnaire of impression about our training camp
