Pakistan 2019 National Stamp Exhibition Compiled by: Engr. Afzal H. Nanjee (Commissioner General) The Stamp Society of Pakistan [SSOP], in collaboration with the DAWN Media Group and Pakistan Post, under the patronage of the Philatelic Federation of Pakistan we were able to organize a wellrepresented International Standard, National Stamp Exhibition from 1st to 3rd February, 2019. This exhibition was one of the best stamp exhibitions held in Pakistan. It was viewed by a large number of philatelists and visitors of all ages from various cities of Pakistan. Stamp Exhibition & Child Art Stamp Drawing Competition was covered by Pakistan s Print, Electronic and Social Media The exhibition displayed 136 frames from 36 entries, including 13 number of youth participation. Large number of entries were received from Peshawar and from UAE. These were judged on a competitive basis in different classes:1) Traditional, 2) Postal History, 3) Postal Stationery, 4) Aerophilately, 5) Thematic, 6) Revenue and 7) Youth Class and 8) Literature. The Jury comprised of two members from Pakistan and one from U.A.E in which Mr. Abdul Wahid acted as a Chairman, Mr. Muhammad Rizwan Kodwavwala and Muhammad Javaid, who is FIP Accredited Juror. This exhibition had World Class arrangements and a large picturesque setting, with wall skins, seating arrangements for study and deliberations, Live Children and Youth Stamp Drawing competition and video presentations by Pakistan Post Foundation (Press Division), the Royal Philatelic Society London and Stamp Society of Pakistan had large banners. The Commissioner General of the exhibition Engr. Afzal H. Nanjee, was in attendance, alongwith the executive Committee members of the SSOP during the exhibition to answer queries from the general public visiting the Exhibition. Also present were Mr. Iqbal Nanjee, President of the SSOP; and Dr. UAG Isani, Chairman Commissioner Appointing Committee, Mr. Abdul Wahid, Vice President Philatelic Federation of Pakistan including other senior members. Senior Officials of Pakistan Post Mr. Muhammad Shakoor, Akber Ali Dero (Postmaster General Metropolitan Circle, Karachi) who were the Chief Guest of the Event and Mr. Ghulam QadirChief Postmaster GPO, graced the exhibition with their presence on all exhibition days. 4
The Pakistan Post issued three special cancellations, one for each day of the exhibition. A dedicated Philatelic Counter of the Pakistan Post was established at the exhibition for issuance of the Special cancellation and sale of Philatelic material, which resulted in huge sales on all the three days. The 2 Hours Live Stamp Drawing Competition, an annual feature since 2008 of the SSOP, organized to promote philately amongst the younger generations, was held and as usual, the participating children were divided into two groups, the first age group being 4-10 years and the second, 11-17 years. The competitions for the two age groups were held on the first two days of the exhibition. There were participants from Sukkur and Hyderabad, although online forms were received from Punjab as well. The drawings made by children were judged by Mr. Adil Salahuddin (S.I), ex-head of Stamp Production (and still the Chief Designer) of the Pakistan Security Printing Corporation, who has been awarded the Pride of Performance and several other special awards. The SSOP published an over 90-pages souvenir on the occasion of Pakistan 2019. This souvenir contains information and detailed articles with in-depth study on postal history including extensive research. Such classical articles make this souvenir nothing less than a reference book. Stamp collectors and philatelists were highly impressed by the over Souvenir issued in connection with the Exhibition. We thank the Pakistan Post for their unconditional support extended in the organizing and hosting of the exhibition and our sponsors giving the advertisements, which were published in the Souvenir. The Royal Philatelic Society London special counter was installed alongwith the Stamp Society of Pakistan, where video presentation, membership details and its benefits were shared with the senior collectors and participants. Since the number of RPSL members from Pakistan have been increasing for the first time, being the Mr. Iqbal H. Nanjee, Country Representative, arranged a meeting of the RPSL (Pakistan) at Defence Authority Club, Karachi followed by the Dinner at the same venue at 7:30 PM on February 2, 2019. The SSOP President and Country Representative of RPSL hosted the Palmaris Dinner on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Defence Authority Club, Karachi, which was attended by the senior officials of Pakistan Post, Jury Members, Exhibitors and Senior Members. The senior management of the Dawn Media Group, Mr. Ali Hasan Naqvi, and Mr. Ghazanfar Ali Manghi, and from Pakistan Post, Dr. Naseer Ahmed Khan (Director General Pakistan Post), Mr. Muhammad Shakoor (Director IM), Mr. Akber Ali Dero (Postmaster General Metropolitan Circle), Mr. Manzoor Ahmed (Chief Controller of Stamps), Mr. Adil Salahhudin (S.I) - Senior General Manager, Pakistan Post Foundation (Press Division), Mr. Irfan Anwar Baloch (Postmaster General Sindh Circle), Mr. Ghulam Qadir (Chief Postmaster-GPO) and Mr. Muhammad Jalil (Divisional Superintend Central) deserve our appreciation and deepest heartfelt thanks. We salute their contribution and efforts in making the Pakistan 2019 a great success. The winners were awarded certificates, medal and souvenir by the SSOP, special prizes were given by Mr. Muhammad Shakoor and Mr. Akber Ali Dero.
