QUARTER-LIFE CRISIS: After beginning the season with a 24-17 (.585) record through their first 41 games (4/4-5/18), trailing the Washington Nationals by just a half-game in the NL East, the Phillies have lost 19 of their last 25 games to fall to a season-high six games under.500 (30-36,.455) They now trail the Nationals by 11.0 games, their largest division deficit since finishing the 2015 season 27.0 games back During this 25-game stretch (since 5/20), Philadelphia has been outscored 125-78 (-47, -1.88 RPG) Their offense is batting just.221 (179-810) over that period with the worst on-base percentage of any team in MLB (.267; next, LAD,.296) Additionally, since May 20 th, Phillies pitchers rank 23 rd in the majors in ERA (4.82), 25 th in opponents AVG (.275), 26 th in OPS (.812), and 28 th in SLG (.472). THE EX FACTOR: Last night, left-fielder Cody Asche had a career-high three extra-base hits (2 2B, HR), which were the most by a Phillie in a single game since Aaron Altherr on September 25, 2015 at WSH (2B, 2 HR) Asche now has four extra-base hits and three RBI in his last four games after having just one XBH and one RBI in his first nine games (6/2-11) As a team, the Phillies have hit at least one HR in each of their last four games and 12 of 14 this month They have slugged at total of 20 home runs in June (1.43 HR per game) after hitting just 39 HR s in their first 52 games of the season (0.75 HR per game). AMERICAN S GOT TALENT: Since Interleague play began in 1997, the Phillies are 40 games under.500 against American League opponents (147-187; 81-90 at home, 66-97 on the road), which is the 4 th -lowest IL winning percentage (.440) among all ML teams (COL,.439; SD,.428; CIN,.426) Additionally, they are just 14-29 (.326) in their last 43 games versus AL East teams (since 5/18/12) In 17 series against the division over that stretch, Philadelphia has gone 2-9-6, with their only series wins coming at NYY (2-1) and vs TB (2-1). HOME SICK: The Phillies are the only team in MLB with less than 100 runs scored at home this season (95) They are averaging just 2.88 runs per game at Citizens Bank Park, the lowest home average in the majors (1 st : BOS, 207 R, 6.27 RPG) The last time Philadelphia finished a season averaging less than 3.00 RPG at home was 1940 (2.94 RPG; 232 R, 79 G), while the last ML team to do wo was the 2011 San Francisco Giants (2.91 RPG; 236 R, 81 G). BURN AFTER READING: The Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia s double-a affiliate) did it again last night, beating the Hartford Yard Goats, 5-4, in 10 innings to extend their winning streak to nine They have now won 14 of their last 15 games and 32 of their last 41 The Phils currently own the best record in all of professional baseball at 47-19 (.712), having won 16 of their 20 series this season (including each of their last 5) Hartford jumped out to a 3-0 lead yesterday in the 3 rd inning on a 3-run homer by David Dahl Reading tied the game in the 6 th on an RBI single by Dylan Cozens and a 2-run fielding error Harold Martinez crushed a pinch-hit solo HR in the top of the 7 th to give the Phils a 4-3 lead, but Michael Benjamin hit a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the 9 th off Miguel Nunez Jesmuel Valentin then delivered the big blow, a solo homer in the top of the 10 th inning, keeping the streak alive Reading and Hartford wrap up their three-game series today at 1:05 pm.
