The victor will advance to a semifinal matchup with either No. 4 seed High Point or No. 5 seed Presbyterian, Saturday at 2 p.m. The Lady Flames will seek a measure of revenge after CSU eliminated Liberty from the 2017 Big South Championship with a 52-50 win in the quarterfinals. Liberty, which won both regular-season meetings with the Buccaneers, is 12-0 at home this season. The Lady Flames are 11-0 in tournament history when seeded No. 1 and facing the No. 8 seed. Big South Player of the Year Keyen Green has recorded a pair of double-doubles against CSU in her career, including 13 points and 12 boards during last season's Big South quarterfinal. Big South Freshman of the Year Ashtyn Baker is averaging 12.8 ppg during the Lady Flames' five-game winning streak. CHARLESTON SO. Liberty and Charleston Southern are meeting in the Big South quarterfinal round for the third straight year. Friday's game is a rubber match of sorts, as Liberty topped CSU 68-53 in the 2016 quarterfinals before the Buccaneers edged the Lady Flames by a 52-50 count a year ago. Liberty has not faced the same team in three consecutive Big South Championships since defeating High Point in the 2010 semifinals, 2011 semifinals and 2012 final. Liberty is 3-1 all-time against CSU in the quarterfinal round, including victories in 2006, 2009 and 2016 and a setback in 2017. The Lady Flames return nine of the 11 players who appeared in last year's quarterfinal matchup with CSU, while the Buccaneers only have three players (Rachel Burns, Shauntavia Dobson and Ke'Asia Jackson) back who appeared in that game. Elyse Kiploks, who hit the game-winning shot for CSU, is now the Bucs' director of operations. When seeded No. 1 in the Big South Championship, Liberty is 11-0 versus the No. 8 seed. Only one No. 8 seed has ever topped the No. 1 seed in tournament history. Winthrop pulled a 57-50 upset against top-seeded High Point in 2007. Friday will be Liberty's ninth all-time meeting with Charleston Southern in the Big South Championship, tying High Point as the Lady Flames' most common tournament foe. FIRST 2017-18 MEETING WITH CHARLESTON SO. JAN. 6, 2018 LIBERTY 63, CHARLESTON SO. 53 LYNCHBURG, VA. (VINES CENTER) Liberty's Big South home opener was knotted at 40-all heading to the fourth quarter. Keyen Green then scored nine points in the final period, while CSU shot just 1-of-11 as a team during the last 10 minutes. The Lady Flames were sparked by the post duo of KK Barbour (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Green (17 points, 6 rebounds). Weknyne Dumorne posted a double-double (15 points, 13 rebounds) for CSU, but the Bucs had 19 turnovers. LADY FLAMES TO WATCH #12 Ashtyn Baker - The Big South Freshman of the Year averaged 12.8 ppg during Liberty's five-game winning streak to close the regular season, shooting 76.9 percent (20-of- 26) from the field and 92.9 percent (13-of-14) from the free throw line. That hot streak included an 18-point outing at Charleston Southern on Feb. 24, when Baker shot 6-of-7 from the field, 2-of-2 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Baker enters her Big South Championship debut with a current streak of 10 straight free throws made. #14 Lela Sellers - Sellers is averaging 10.0 ppg in five career meetings with CSU. Her career highs for points (21, Jan. 3, 2017) and rebounds (8, Feb. 17, 2017) both came against the Buccaneers. Sellers is shooting 50 percent (11-of-22) from three-point range versus CSU during her career. #21 Keyen Green - The Big South Player of the Year has recorded two career double-doubles against CSU, including her 13-point, 12-rebound effort during last year's Big South quarterfinal clash. #30 KK Barbour - Barbour enters the tournament on a career-long string of four straight games in double figures, including her 13-point performance at CSU on Feb. 24. She also went for 18 points, 10 rebounds and four assists during the Lady Flames' Jan. 6 home win over the Buccaneers. Barbour tallied seven points and six rebounds versus CSU in the 2016 Big South quarterfinals, her best Big South Championship outing to date. SECOND 2017-18 MEETING WITH CHARLESTON SO. FEB. 24, 2018 LIBERTY 95, CHARLESTON SO. 57 CHARLESTON, S.C. (BUC DOME) Liberty raced out to a 27-2 lead to start the game, on its way to setting season highs for points in a Big South game (95) and margin of victory in a conference game (38). Ashtyn Baker shot 6-of-7 and scored a team-high 18 points for the Lady Flames, who recorded 20 assists and shot 57.4 percent from the field. Shelby Wilbanks (16 points, 6 rebounds) paced the Buccaneers in both points and rebounds. CSU committed 20 turnovers, leading to 24 Liberty points. ON THIS DATE: Liberty is 4-3 all-time when playing on March 9, including 4-2 in Big South Championship contests and 2-1 in the Big South Championship quarterfinal round. MARCH 9 The Lady Flames lost 77-69 to Towson in the Big South quarterfinals on March 9, 1995. Since then, Liberty has won March 9 quarterfinal matchups with Winthrop (81-47 in 2004) and UNC Asheville (71-50 in 2012). Liberty is 72-48 all-time in March, including 64-23 under Carey Green and 1-0 this season. 2
