Message from the President I would like to personally thank all of you for your selfless support to our children and communities during the 2017 VAYFA season. Here is but a snapshot of a few of our successes (more will be outlined throughout the report): Together, we fielded over 40 football and cheer teams, encompassing 1000+ children. This was no easy accomplishment for an organization which spanned North to Dale City and Stafford County, South to the City of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County, then West to Loudon County and into West Virginia. Fielded teams across 13 divisions. 6 (4-Football and 2-Cheer) teams represented the conference at the national championships. Minimal reported injuries. Developed and launched a new website. None of this would have been possible without all of you, the parents, our sponsors, and the many of folks throughout each of these wonderful communities which supported VAYFA. Your commitment is strong and a testament to the wonderful communities you represent. In 2018, we will grow and be even stronger than we have been in the past as we further hone our competitive edge. We will no longer compete in the weighted classes (National) and compete solely as unweighted (All-American) which will provide for more complete division make-ups. We will also focus on increasing the number of competitive cheer teams as this is an area of growth and will only fulfill our mantra as a family oriented organization where everyone may be involved as they desire. 2018 promises to be filled with its usual challenges, but with what has been accomplished in the past year, we in VAYFA are better prepared and ready for such challenges. 2018 VAYFA Priorities 1. WEBSITE This is a must as it will serve as the VAYFA information/communication hub. Each Association must appoint someone to manage their site. Pictures and information increase recruitment. These sites need to be operational by 15 February. 2. COMMITTEES These are needed to market VAYFA and ensure that we have enough lead time in preparation for such activities as conference fundraisers, marketing, and the conference championships. If we are to grow, more folks need to be involved with the board. 3. INCREASE BOARD MEMBERS Everyone cannot be a voting member and there should be minimal actions which call for a decision outside of the board. But there is a need for a Football and Cheer Commissioner, as well as Fundraising/Sponsorship Coordinator to ensure information is properly distributed and actions are taken as needed with respect to these areas. These positions work hand-inhand with the board and have the board s authority to conduct actions as appropriate. 4. INCREASE CHEER This is an area we need certainly place some emphasis for the betterment of VAYFA given the wonderful families and communities which support the organization. Each Association should make a commitment to establish at least one cheer team. 5. MEASURED GROWTH Many of you will know organizations which will desire to come to VAYFA, we need to carefully evaluated each application thoroughly in determining whether they are a good fit for VAYFA and the culture desired. We should not be seeking organizations just to become larger. 6. RULES REVIEW There is a need to evaluate all VAYFA specific riles with respect to coaching and playing football in VAYFA. We cannot change how others may play, but we can ensure that we are well established in our rules of play and field management (Field Marshalling). 11 Page
