Geographical Location: A panoceanic species known from the tropical and southeastern parts of the Atlantic Ocean, the southern and tropical regions of the Indian Ocean, the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean, the deepwater parts of the Bering Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk, the central and southern regions of the Pacific Ocean, and the Antarctic (up to 66 0 S). In the tropical regions it reaches 200-250 m and in the northwestern regions of the Pacific Ocean is found in catches from 500-1,000, 1,000-3,000, 2,000-2,500, and 2,000-4,000 m. The eyes are small. Antennae I are almost equal in length to the pereon and pleon together. The maxillipeds differ sharply from those of all other species of the genus Scina in the unusually narrow and long outer lobes, and in the inner lobes being reduced to small triangular-oval plates. Pereopods I and II are thin and weak; the 5 th segment of pereopods I is notably longer than the 6 th while in pereopods II these segments are almost equal in length. In pereopods III and IV the 6 th segment is very thin and shorter than the 5 th, which is almost equal in length to the 4 th. The length ratios of the segments of pereopods V- VII are fairly variable. Pereopods V are long but relatively shorter than in S. oedicarpus; the 2 nd segment on the anterior margin is armed with strong, slightly curved denticles and with somewhat weaker denticles on the posterior margin; the distal process is long, slightly curved and armed with fine denticles on the anterior margin; the 5 th segment is usually shorter than the 4 th, being 2/3 length; the 6 th segment is only 1/5-1/3 the length of the 5 th although it may sometimes reach 2/3 its length; the claw is small and curved. Pereopods VI are roughly the same length as pereopods V and have roughly the same length ratios of segments, but the distal segments are stronger than in pereopods V, while the 6 th segment is 1/3-2/3 the length of the 5 th segment or even equal to it. In the short pereopods VII the 4 th, 5 th, and 6 th segments are roughly equal in length, although sometimes the 6 th segment is slightly longer or shorter than the 5 th ; the claw is small and curved. The uropods are similar in structure to S. oedicarpus but somewhat broader. Together with specimens which have on the inner margin of uropods I a solitary long spine opposite the place of attachment of the exopodite, specimens which bear a few
