2012 2013 WEST HARTFORD GIRLS BASKETBALL LEAGUE **PITTSBURGH TEAM HIGHLIGHTS** 1/6/13 North Carolina 21, Pittsburgh 18: Team Pittsburgh shook off "the first game jitters" and the girls really showed great team spirit in doing so! Molly Binder and Maggie Grant played excellent defense and both really took it to the basket during their rotations. Grace Faenza was also very active on the defensive end and played great "team basketball." Helen Garde was the leading scorer with 6 points and Sarah Sampt contributed strongly with 4 points, along with some key rebounding. Hayden Neubert made a key lay-up at the end of the game to keep our team in the game. Team Pittsburgh is making great improvement in all areas and will be very competitive going forward into the season! 1/13/13 Pittsburgh 20, Syracuse 16: Pittsburgh showed a great "team effort" today against Syracuse. Hayden Neubert "cracked the ice" by scoring the first basket of the game. Sophia Ellavsky had a great defensive improvement and also scored her first points of the season. Victoria Conlon also had her "first bucket" today! Sarah Sampt and Molly Binder had the offense flowing nicely and gave Pittsburgh a good scoring cushion going into the last 12 minutes. Syracuse made a great comeback at the end of the game. Pittsburgh regained its composure at the last substitution, and aided by the great play of Allison Morhardt, was able to pull away for the win.

1/20/13 Pittsburgh 13, Maryland 4: Pittsburgh managed to push past Maryland today with a great defensive effort led by Molly Binder and Mia Jaworski. Both Molly and Mia played really hard defense on Maryland and held them to only two baskets for the entire game. Zoe Pizzoferatto made Pittsburgh's first free-throw of the season! Helen Garde was the game's leading scorer with 8 points. This game was a great learning experience for the girls and they really enjoyed the great competition by Maryland. 1/27/13 Pittsburgh 26, Georgetown 21: Pittsburgh played great team basketball today against Georgetown. Georgetown made a nice comeback later in the game but could not overcome the offensive effort from Pittsburgh. Molly Binder continues to be a force to be reckoned with on both sides of the ball. Molly was the leading scorer today with 8 points. Grace Faenza had a breakout game and scored her first 4 points of the season! Sophia Ellavsky was gathering up rebounds and also contributed on offensive with 2 points. Mia Jaworski played her normal tough-as-nails defense and also scored 4 points. Anne Horton had her first points of the season and had a very good all-around game today. Sarah Sampt made 2 beautiful jump shots along with some great passes to her teammates. Allison Morhardt made a much needed basket at the end of the game that gave Pittsburgh just the cushion we needed to come out with a victory. The girls are improving so much and really playing hard as a team that it is very rewarding for all 4 Pittsburgh coaches. Well done today girls!

2/3/13 Pittsburgh 25, Tennessee 22: Pittsburgh's team play continues to develop in a very positive way! Today's game was very well played by both teams. Grace Faenza is turning into quite the point guard and was the game's leading scorer with 9 points. Molly Binder continues to be one of leagues most dominent players on both sides of the court. Maggie Grant had a very aggressive game and had the offense going as well. Sophia Ellavsky got down to business in the paint and had 2 much-needed offensive rebounds. Victoria Conlon also made a key basket down the stretch and Helen Garde pulled-out a tasty jump shot when Tennessee started a comeback. Mia Jaworski and Zoe Pizzoferrato turned up the D and kept the ball moving well in their rotations. Everyone contributed on Pittsburgh today and the coaches are really proud of way all of the girls are playing! 2/10/13 - Storm Nemo 100, Pittsburgh 0: Storm Nemo came and cancelled all games this week! 2/17/13 UConn 36, Pittsburgh 21: Pittsburgh did their best today to keep up with great play of UConn today! Grace Faenza led Pittsburgh's offensive attack with 8 points. Mia Jaworski played her usual high energy game and scored 4 points. Victoria Conlon really stepped up her

rebounding today and had a great offensive rebound that resulted in a much needed bucket. Victoria also proved that the "bank was open today" and rattled in a free throw off the glass. Helen Garde knocked in a buzzer-beater to end the first half before leaving the game with an injury. Sarah Sampt and Zoe Pizzoferatto also contributed with 2 points each. Hayden Neubert is always "in the right place at the right time" when it comes to rebounds. A great thing about playing short-handed today was that the girls got a lot of extra playing time. They will have much more playing confidence for the remaining games of the 2013 season! 2/24/13 Syracuse 14, Pittsburgh 10: Pittsburgh's offense was "still on vacation" during the game vs. Syracuse today! Syracuse, to their credit, played very nice team defense against us today. Victoria Conlon and Maggie Grant were rebounding and defending like crazy and Mia Jaworski made a simply amazing pass to one of the best cutters to the basket in the league, Molly Binder. Our leading scorer today was Sophia Ellavsky with 4 points and she also contributed with some key rebounds as well. Helen Garde, Grace Faenza, and Anne Horton each had a bucket a piece. The girls are looking to finish the season strong next week against Maryland! 3/3/13 Pittsburgh 36, North Carolina 34: WOW, WHAT A GAME! This game was a coach s dream come true! All the girls were "running on all cylinders" today. Everyone contributed in all aspects for the final game of the season. Now for the shout-outs! Sophia Ellavasky was our first double-digit scorer of the season with 12 points! She was simply a rebounding machine today, always in the right spot at the right time! Sophia also hit a game-ending buzzer-beater to win the game! Maggie Grant had her finest game of the season with ferocious offense and defense, playing a simply outstanding game on both ends of the floor! Zoe Pizzoferato's offense emerged today and she scored 7 big points. Zoe's Mom explained that she was really putting in a lot of practice time during the week and it

really made the difference for our team today! Hats off to Molly Binder's effort today! Molly is one of the leagues most gifted players who is capable of doing anything she sets to accomplish. Not only can Molly cover 2 or even 3 players at a time on defense, she can also shoot with the best of them. Molly worked so hard this year in practice and in the games that she made it a pleasure for the entire coaching staff! Anne Horton, Mia Jaworski, and Victoria Conlon all played a super solid game and contributed on the offensive side of the ball. The coaches are all so proud of the wonderful team effort made in today's game! Special thanks to all the girls for working so hard this year and making it so much fun for everybody involved! Team Pittsburgh, AND NOW, A NOTE FROM YOUR COACHES March 7, 2003 Girls, you have impressed all of the Coaches this year in many ways. The thing that strikes me most, besides your improvement as Basketball Players, was that all of you got along so well! The practices and games were so much fun in spending time with all of you! Watching your steady development as players in the game of Basketball was very rewarding. In our first game against North Carolina, we came out very enthusiastic, but were still playing as individuals at the time. The end result of the first game was a loss. In our last game against North Carolina, we played as a team. The end result was a highly dramatic (buzzer beater) win! That last game sums up all of the hard work that each of you contributed to make it a wonderful season! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as the coaches did! Here are some of my assessments of all of your individual contributions to the team by the player: 6TH GRADERS MOLLY BINDER MAGGIE GRANT SOPHIA ELLAVSY VICTORIA CONLON ALLISON MORHARDT GRACE FAENZA SARAH SAMPT Most Valuable Player Fastest Player Most improved athletically Best Sportsmanship Best Work Ethic Most Improved Player Most Consistent Player
