TEAM LEADER MANUAL KRANJSKA GORA / SELLA NEVEA 19.01. 01.02.2019
WELCOME Dear Team Leader, Welcome to the 2019 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships. Kranjska Gora and Sella Nevea are cities with a long tradition of organising Para alpine skiing competitions and when they join forces we can only expect exciting events. It is the first time two cities host the same edition of the World Championships. Italy hosted the last competition in Tarvisio 2017 and it is great to have Slovenia co-organising the season s most important event. We expect around 140 athletes from 35 nations to participate in the 2019 World Championships. The competition will start in Kranjska Gora for the other 12 technical events before it moves to Sella Nevea with 18 speed events. In this guide you will find the information you need to know about the competition, the venues, classification, transport, accommodation and all the relevant areas. This is the first major Para alpine skiing competition after the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games where I had the chance to witness extraordinary performances from both experienced and young skiers. I am sure those in Italy and Slovenia will have the same feeling I had in Korea when they watch the best athletes in world in action. I would like to thank both Local Organising Committees for their work supporting World Para Alpine Skiing to deliver the championships. Best of luck to all the competing athletes and teams. Thank you, Andrew Parsons President International Paralympic Committee

KRANJSKA GORA GREEN, ACTIVE, HEALTHY CITY WITH THE MOST World cups! Kranjska Gora is renowned worldwide for its international sports events, such as the Vitranc Cup Alpine Skiing World Cup, Alpine skiing for the Ski Jumping World Cup and Cross Country World Cup Planica. The Nordic Centre Planica is an exceptional environment for continuing the Slovenian tradition of sky jumping and flying, as well as for cross-country training and competing. The biggest ski flying hill in the world the most spectacular zipline in the world! You can experience it in Planica. Kranjska Gora is a renowned resort, embraced by the Julian Alps, offering entertainment, sport and recreation throughout the year. The picturesque Kranjska Gora lies in the immediate vicinity of the three borders between Slovenia, Austria and Italy. Due to its altitude (810 m above sea level), fresh mountain air and numerous sunny days it has been known since the antique times as the unique climate health resort. Two events contributed to the development of Kranjska Gora from a herdmen s settlement in the 14th century to today's cosmopolitan Alpine village. The first turning point was the construction of the road through the Vršič mountain pass and the subsequent strategic importance of Kranjska Gora. The second turning point was the construction of the railway and the subsequent construction of the Planica ski jump.

Sella Nevea is located in the valley between Monte Canin and the Jôf of Montasio. This area is known as the "glacier" of the Friuli Venezia Giulia. The reason is that this is traditionally the ski resort in the region that enjoys the longest season, giving ski lovers the opportunity to enjoy downhill skiing even in the first weekends of spring time! The total ski area between Italy to Slovenia measures 15 km and gives the opportunity to test skiers of every level. Another tradition in this resort is thrilling off-slope skiing, providing an extra challenge for visitors. Since 2007/2008, Sella Nevea has been a host resort for professional skiers as the venue of the FIS Training Centre. It has staged both able-bodied and Para competitions including World Cups, Europa Cups and FIS competitions. Facilities Its 17 slopes cover 15km of skiing area and range from altitudes of 1,103m to 2,133m above sea level. Other facilities include a swimming pool, indoor rock climbing, ice rink and fitness centre. In addition, Sella Nevea is a mountain resort surrounded by uncontaminated nature; it is paradise on earth for all those who love the natural environment. It is no coincidence that the resort is often chosen as a base for mountaineering expeditions. People who really love winter sports and the great outdoors, will undoubtedly find in Sella Nevea their ideal and idyllic resort!
