Welcome to the 2016/2017 Winter Season! Welcome to the Waterville Valley Freeski Team. My name is Dan Shuftleton. I am the ECS Freeski Program Director and Head Coach for the WV A/BBTS Freeski Team. This is a competitive development program for 14 year-old and older athletes. It is our program's goal to teach our skiers the skills required to learn the sport and to perform and compete competently. Competitive freeskiing demands strong skiing skills and acrobatic competency equal to learning both alpine ski racing and gymnastics. Also physical conditioning is necessary to train and compete effectively at this level. It is also our objective to field all of our athletes in competitions and to advance them to the highest level possible. In the case for freeski this culminates in the Olympics, X-Games, Dew Tour, Rev Tour, National Competitions, Open Field National/International Competitions, and FIS. In order to develop the proper skills, everyone will need extensive trampoline, bag jump and on snow training as well as the proper conditioning to ensure strength and flexibility year round. Looking forward to a great season. Goals: WVBBTS Freeski is a full-spectrum training program designed for young athletes age 14+ who participate and compete in all levels of slopestyle. We provide a progressive sequence of unique training opportunities that develops technically strong skiers and builds proper acrobatic skills, as well as all-around Testimonial "Attending the Waterville Valley Academy was one of the most enlightening experiences ofmy life. It turned out to be the best jumpstart to my career imaginable. I competed an incredible amount during my time at the academy. Surprisingly once I graduated, competition was not the path I chose. I chose to progress my street skiing and make a career out of it. While some might think my time being coached and competing at the academy may have been a waste, I will be the first to say that it was certainly not. No matter what your career path, you cannot beat the mentality of a trained competitor. Whether your sliding a big rail, or at the top of a halfpipe, the same mental and physical training applies. I can proudly say that a huge amount of my success in street skiing is from the fundamentals, progressive skill, and, above all, the competitive training that Dan Shuffleton and the Waterville program gave me."
