1. Ogilvie, William, 1846-1912. Surveyor and civil servant. Winnipeg, Manitoba. Land Original Papers, 1869-1912. 4 inches. Correspondence and papers of William Ogilvie (1846-1912), land surveyor and civil servant. Between 1875 and 1898 Ogilvie conducted a number of surveys and explorations in the Northwest Territories, notably in the Peace River and the Mackenzie River districts and along the Alaska boundary, and from 1898 to 1901 he was Commissioner of the Yukon Territory. Presented in 1930, 1946 and 1975. The papers include correspondence, diaries and survey notebooks, memoranda and manuscripts. They deal with Ogilvie's surveys in the Northwest, Blackfoot and Sioux Indians, mining, conditions in Alaska and Yukon, and the Klondike gold rush.

An account of his experiences with the Sioux and Blackfoot Indians in the Northwest in the 1870's and 1880's. 15 pages. FILE TWO: Diaries and Notebooks 1869-1897; and a programme, 1900. - Notebook of Ogilvie's surveying jobs for 1869-1870 in Ontario. - Notebook describing a surveying job in Gloucester Township, Ontario for the Dept. of Public Works 1870-1871. - Diary with daily entries for the year 1891. - Notebook of instrument readings 1896. - Notebook containing financial notes, diary entries and and surveying notes for the period 1894-1897. - Notebook (1896-1897) containing accounts of various subjects including John Dalton's route to Selkirk via Chilcoot River over the Coast Range; descriptions of various Indian legends common to the natives northwards from St.Michaels along the coast; notes of surveys conducted by Ogilvie along Coal Creek, Dawson Townsite, Yukon River, Bonanza Creek and other areas in 1897. The notebook concludes with a record of temperature and barometer readings for 1897. - A programme for a concert in aid of widows and orphans Dawson City 15 Feb. 1900.

(26 Feb. 1900 Lewes River N.W.T.) gateman encloses a record of thermometer readings at Ponsonby Concession 10 miles above gig Salmon, Lews River. (4 pages) (15 Sept. 1904. Davison, Yukon) geaudette discusses the Hydroelectric potential of the Frazer Falls on the Stewart River. (2 pages) Boumas, Bishop W. C. ( 3 Dec. 1891. Porcupine 1.ver) In a letter to Lt..Cov. Schultz of Manitoba he discusses the mines in the Yukon, American trade along the Arctic Coast and the activities of an American survey party under CaPtain Turner. (2 pages) Davidson, George (15 November 1904. San Francisco) He mentions the Muir Glacier and his early astronomical work. Erskine, W. J. Gunn, Peter (8 June 1927, San Francisco, Calif.) Erskine encloses a typescript copy of an Ogilvie letter, dated 22 May 1897, in which Ogilvie transmits to Mr. James 'ailson of the Alaska Commercial Co. information concerning the gold strike in the Yukon.
